  • Family-friendly farm site half an hour’s drive from Bury St Edmunds
  • RAF Lakenheath 15 minutes’ drive, and Ely Cathedral 25 minutes
  • Camping shop and fishing on site; riverside pub 15 minutes’ walk
Set within the rural village of West Row in Suffolk, the New Park Farm pitches look out over arable fields and the village’s allotments. It’s a great spot for aircraft enthusiasts who don’t want to be right under the flight path, but close enough to enjoy the comings and goings of planes from RAF Lakenheath (15 minutes’ drive). There’s plenty of space on the neatly mown field, so you can spread out if you’re after more privacy, or huddle together if you’re staying with friends and family. You can also kickback on the daybed, and huddle up around the firepit for warmth on chillier evenings. Practical amenities include mains electricity and a water tap at each pitch, showers, basic baby-changing facilities, a simple washing-up sink and a laundry room. The well-stocked caravan and camping accessory shop opens most mornings, so you can get in supplies too. New Park Farm backs onto the River Lark, just a couple of minutes’ walk from the pitches. Fishing is available (with the correct permit), and you can give paddleboarding and kayaking a go on the water or simply have a stroll down the river to the local pub (15 minutes’ walk), which serves good food. The site is also close to Newmarket (20 minutes), the birthplace of British flat racing, as well as lots of activity parks for the kids.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Location. Not far off the A12 so good for passing through for a night.
At £25 for overnight inc electric and water, can’t really grumble at the price.
It’s got all the necessary facilities.

Disliked The riverside pub 15 minutes away (as described in the owners own description) is closed and has been for a few months.
Was looking forward to a short riverside walk and a beer or two. This is poor (to leave it on the description).
I’m NOT reviewing the bit with the tent - just the bit for Motorhomes - this at the end of the day is a small hedge surrounded field with basic facilities.

From the manager: I think your comment about the pub being closed and the low score because of this rather harsh, as this in my opinion is for you to research not myself. Am I responsible if the local shop decides to close for half a day or the fish and chip shop close.
Your review is supposed to be on the site experience , of which from what i gather you "cant really grumble".

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Easy to find, quiet and being a small site means the facilities are not busy. Great showers and toilets. Close to grocery store to pick up essentials means you can travel light and pick up what you need whilst you're there. Some nice pubs in the town and other villages close by. For those wanting to see military aircraft, Mildenhall viewing is less than 10 minutes away. Lakenheath 20. You will also get the occasional planes flying over or around the site.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Great owners, great facilities and a great location. Was staying over for the week due to doing some photography of the local bases and with this campsite being situated right next to Mildenhall the aircraft circuit right over the campsite which meant that I could be sat having a beer and taking photos at the same time! A really great place to stay.

Bell tent

Liked Booked for my son and partner who wanted somewhere off the beaten track to have some much needed downtime from hectic family life. The Bell tent was clean and comfortable and well equipped. They loved cooking on the open fire. Plenty of nice walks around the area , picnic by the river. Chance to get back to nature. A nice hospitality pack in the tent also which was appreciated.
If you like the rural life away from it all then this place is perfect.

Disliked Showers weren’t very clean

Local attractions

Fans of planes vintage or modern, you’ll be in your element at New Park Farm. RAF Lakenheath (15 minutes’ drive) is open for you to inspect historic military craft, and you’ll often see 21st-century fighter planes taking off from there on the skyline. You can also watch the manoeuvres at RAF Mildenhall Visitors’ Centre (10 minutes), where US Air Force planes occasionally land too. Your kids will never have a dull moment. They can go karting at Red Lodge (15 minutes), practise their off-road moves at Phoenix Bike Park (20 minutes) and zoom around quad bike trails at WildTracks Outdoor Activity Park (15 minutes). If they’d rather spectate than compete, there’s drag racing at Mildenhall Stadium (10 minutes) too. Keen to do some cultural sightseeing? There’s the Gothic-era cathedral and half-timbered Oliver Cromwell’s House visitor centre at Ely (25 minutes), while historic Bury St Edmunds (half an hour) offers up 11th-century St Edmundsbury Abbey, surrounded by peaceful leafy gardens – and for a change of pace you can tour the well-known Greene King Brewery too.
