  • Quiet adults-only caravan park in a Suffolk forest location
  • A 10-minute drive from Bury St Edmunds and an hour from the coast
  • Next door to forest, West Stow Country Park and Anglo-Saxon village
This peaceful adults-only site has direct access to acres of green space, including Kings Forest and West Stow Country Park. With walks along the river Lark also on offer close by, there's little wonder that Kings Forest Caravan Park is held in such high regard among caravanners, who appreciate the peace and quiet of the place and the dog-friendly site rules. Part of a working farm called Wideham Farm, Kings Forest Caravan Park has smart stable facilities for visiting horses. The adjacent forest and the surrounding Suffolk countryside make excellent turf for hacking across too. They’re just as good for walking and pedalling, and with direct access to the forest, woodland wanderings and wildlife encounters are close to hand; look out for fallow deer, wild foxgloves and kestrels swooping overhead. Plus, the Suffolk Wildlife Trust at Lackford Lakes is just a five-minute drive away for conservation fans. This is a prime position to relax in too: peace and quiet are highly prized out here, and the proprietors ask everyone to kindly keep it down after 10pm… the horses need their beauty sleep…

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked: Beautiful location. Quiet. Friendly owners. Good size pitches. Choose your own preferred pitch. Very little road noise. Good facilities. Close to forest for walking. Just a lovely place to get away. No wifi and network coverage sketchy but not a bad thing!

Disliked: Would have liked a basin in the toilet cubicles but thats a very small niggle!

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked: Excellent adults only dog friendly camp site Plenty of pitches to choose from, all decent size pitches. Friendly owner met us on arrival, told us a couple of good pitches to choose from. Separate showers and separate unisex toilets, both kept clean. The wash up area, water facilities and freezer are great. Able to walk in to the Kings forest, and easy access to main roads for Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge etc. We will definitely stay again, this time when warmer and hopefully not as wet. Not far from RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath, well worth a visit to Lakenheath viewing area to if you like to see some fast noisy jets. Plenty of aircraft over and around campsite.

Disliked: Water temperature for showers could have been a bit warmer. Road was quite busy at times during night.

Wee Pea camping pod (pet friendly)

Liked: Adult only site. Was met by Declan at reception, kindly showed me to Wee Pea Pod. Site was very peaceful. All facilities, toilets, showers, pot wash, veg prep very clean and well kept. Surrounded by wild life. Important for me, dog-friendly (with no extra charge). Pitches looked well spaced. Within 5 minutes walk was King's Forest and West Stow Country Park, both beautiful escapes. No signal, for me not an issue.

Disliked: Nothing to not like.

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked: The site is lovely and tranquil, the owners are lovely and are very helpful. The facilities are very clean and well presented. Only 15 mins from Bury St Edmunds. We would definitely stay here again and can't wait to return.

Disliked: The only negative I can give and this is nothing awful but WiFi wasn't very good but that didn't hinder our wonderful stay.

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked: Beautifully landscaped and maintained campsite. Loved watching the people arrive with their horses too. Toilet/shower/wash-up facilities new and clean. Great size pitches. Direct access to Kings Forest for walking/cycling and a couple of mins walk to Anglo-Saxon village/lake walks/cafe/archery. Could arrive early (12o/c) and leave late (12o/c). Great campsite.

Disliked: Poor WiFi but cafe over the road had WiFi you could use during the day for free

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: The campsite is large and very clean. The location is what made it for us, you can walk straight into King's Forest and over the road to the Country Park. The camping field is very bare, (a few more trees would be nice), but the toilets and showers are nice and clean, and we would definitely come back.

Local attractions

A walk away, West Stow Country Park is a top spot for Suffolk strolls and rides, with a pair of hides for birdwatching and whole platoons of wildlife gathering on the lake and along the River Lark. As an added bonus, there’s a reconstructed Anglo-Saxon village where you can see how life was way back in the Dark Ages. The ancient market town of Bury St Edmunds is 10 minutes’ drive away if you’re minded to continue the historical theme: medieval Moyse’s Hall is home to a fab museum, while Ickworth House, built in neoclassical style for the earls of Bristol, is a splendid country house. After that, head on to the half-timbered, brightly hued cottages of Lavenham, half an hour away. There’s wildlife aplenty around here too, and trails to spot it at Cavenham Heath National Nature Reserve (15 minutes): blue tits and woodpeckers are often seen in the woods, while on the heath, lizards, adders and stone curlews flit around the remains of World War II defences. More exotic residents can be met at Banham Zoo (40 minutes), from Bactrian camels to silvery marmosets and gelada baboons, and seals can sometimes be spotted from the cliffs and beach at Felixstowe, an hour away. Even without glimpses of its whiskered marine mammals, the seaside town makes a top day trip, with beach walks, harbour cruises and tours of 18th-century Landguard Fort finished off with fish and chips.
