  • Peaceful two-acre field a 10-minute walk from Stanton village, Suffolk
  • Bury St Edmunds 20 minutes’ drive; Lowestoft beach one hour
  • Dogs welcome; excellent stargazing; a five-minute drive from a winery
Bromptons Farm, on the edge of the village of Stanton (a 10-minute walk), is a top spot for a peaceful Suffolk holiday. Staying here puts you within easy driving distance of historic towns like Bury St Edmunds (20 minutes’ drive) and Stowmarket (25 minutes), as well as woodland trails like those found in Thetford Forest (25 minutes). The region’s coast is a little farther, with beaches such as Aldeburgh (pebbly) and Lowestoft (sandy) about one hour’s drive away. The site has a two-acre meadow where you can set up freely – there’s no being slave to marked bays here. There’s heaps of room for the kids to run around, and the family dog will almost certainly wag its tail in excitement at the prospect of sniffing every little corner of this great big field. A toilet/shower block, charging facilities and recycling points sweeten the experience further. Hiking (and wildlife-viewing) highlights in the vicinity include the Knettishall Heath Nature Reserve (15 minutes), with grazing wild ponies; and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust - East Wretham Heath Nature Reserve (25 minutes), where you might spot wading birds around the lakes, plus stoats and roe deer. If you need to stock up on grillables, Stanton has a couple of convenience stores, as well as a fish and chips shop for those who don’t fancy tending to hot coals all evening. You can also check out the restaurant at Wyken Vineyards or hit the pubs in Bardwell (both five minutes). After dinner, stretch out on the grass and take in the spectacle of the night sky – with such low light pollution here, stargazing is on a different level.

Liked We only intended to stay one night but then found out The Van Life Festival was on over the weekend. We bought tickets and we are so glad we did. We had the best weekend ever, there was a Jamaican food stand where I tried curry goat rice and peas with calalou it was delicious.Ellie had a hot food van and bar, lovely bacon rolls for breakfast. There were two bouncy for the kids and plenty of bands to suit everyone’s tastes. There was also the Ginger Barista whose coffee was awesome. There were a few people from the village who came down and really enjoyed themselves. Thank you Brendan Ellie and Roly and everyone who made it such a success. Hopefully you will do it again next year and we will be there.

Hedgerow fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked A really lovely setting. Great scenery, nice walks and nice campsite. The host, Brendan, was very hospitable and looks after everyone very well. We liked the fact that tents and campervans can pitch anywhere and no specific allocated spaces.
WiFi is excellent. Camp site prices are very reasonable.
We are sorry that we are missing the van-life festival at the campsite this weekend... would have been fantastic to attend!!

Disliked The shower/basins/toilet facilities and the dish washup facilities could be expanded more to accommodate a full site but this may be done anyway as the campsite was only opened a few months ago.

It's a very laid-back peaceful campsite.not been running long+a work in progress with clean toilets+shower block (tho still being worked on) bar+food van being set up-a new addition, very reasonably priced.overall we found it a fab place to stay+will be returning next month 😊

Meadow non-electric grass pitch

Liked It was excellent value for money. Lovely views across open fields and of sunset. Great to be able to pitch up wherever you want.

Disliked Not a very friendly site and there were a loud group of campers who stayed up until midnight - on a family camp site that seemed late - my daughter and I couldn’t get to sleep until they stopped.

Most of the time I used the loo there was wee on the seat which was pretty unpleasant. There was also a group of children, who liked to hang out in the bathroom in the evening, which seemed a bit strange.

Overall the site had a bit of odd vibe - just not the usual friendly feeling that we’re used too. It’s a shame as it’s a lovely location.

Hedgerow fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked We loved our stay & definitely be back.We was greeted when we arrived by the lovely Ellie who showed us where we could park & she was very friendly and helpful.when we was settled we saw Brendon who came over and checked in and said if we needed any help with anything just give him a call. I mean how fantastic is that. It's a new site so still lots to do. Yes there was two toilets and 1 showers but they are in the middle of putting another shower in. You have to remember its a new site. But it never spoiled our stay at all. And Ellies children are so cute and Brandon's daughter was so polite she is such a credit to him. We loved watching the kids playing 😊. We had amazing stay we loved all the open space and the views are fantastica can't wait to come back. Thank you both for a lovely holiday🤎.

Local attractions

The steam-engine age is alive and well at Bressingham Steam Museum & Gardens (20 minutes), where you might take a ride on a narrow-gauge railway and climb aboard vintage engines. The ‘Dad’s Army’ displays ought to appeal to nostalgic TV buffs, while green-fingered visitors should check out the Japanese garden and ornamental ponds in the 17-acre gardens. An English Heritage property, the 12th-century Thetford Priory (20 minutes) was closed by order of Henry VIII in 1540. Its ruins now spread over a large area just north of the River Ouse. Thetford also has the Dad’s Army Museum and the Thetford Castle Mound, said to be Britain’s tallest medieval earthwork. Norfolk airfields witnessed plenty of action during World War II. Military museums in the area include the 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum (25 minutes), housed in a former control tower; and the Red Feather Club 95th Bomb Group Museum (half an hour), which tells the story of a US Air Force team.
