  • Vintage-inspired units with kitchen facilities set in a small wood
  • A 10-minute drive to Loddon, 15 to Bungay and 30 to Norwich
  • Communal lounge with underfloor heating, pool table and games
Travel back to the past as well as across the pond with a stay at Tin Can Camping with its retro Americana theme – all without leaving the wilds of southern Norfolk. Tucked away at the end of a no-through road in a small wood about a 10-minute drive from the River Chet, this site’s got vintage-inspired accommodation to choose from, all with topnotch kitchen facilities. Shared amenities are swish too, with hotel-style toilets including two sinks and a double walk-in rain shower plus another shower room with a separate toilet. Bedding, linen, blankets and towels, as well as pots, pans and utensils, are all provided too (making this spot a firm fave of light packers...). For fuss-free morning meals on the first day on site, a welcome breakfast hamper full of local produce is handed out on arrival. Concerned about nippy evenings? There’s no need: the communal Camp HQ’s kept toasty with underfloor heating and a well-equipped kitchen (including a hob, oven, grill, toaster and kettle as well as a Nespresso machine) and also has sofas to snuggle on while playing the provided board games. Rousing boules matches on a designated pitch, pool tournaments and giant Jenga challenges can also be had at this park. If the weather gods have deigned to be kind, make your way to the firepit for a lounging session besides the heat or strike up the barbecue and get grub on the go. Charcoal, logs, kindling and firelighters can be bought on site and a small supermarket is over in Loddon a 10-minute drive away.

Local attractions

Swan across the county border to Suffolk for explores in Bungay, a market town in the Waveney valley with a famed theatre, vineyard and dairy about 15 minutes’ drive away. Here, you can toddle along two historical trails: The Bigod Way past a 12th-century castle or the Town Trail beside the Waveney river taking in most of the old buildings and churches. Another market town on the Waveney, Beccles is a little further on at a 20-minute drive and is also the gateway to the Broads National Park for traversing a watery landscape on hired kayaks and boats. Peaceful paths, a national cycle route, microbreweries and farm shops are in this area as well. To swap river roams for coastal canters, seaside village Southwold with its beach huts, a pier for crabbing off and sandy shores is a 40-minute drive, while the city of Norwich is half an hour away to dip in and out of the cathedral, castle and The Lanes' indie boutiques.
