  • Spacious north Norfolk farm site a mile from Burnham Thorpe
  • Holkham Hall and Wells-next-the-Sea within 10 minutes' drive
  • Dog-friendly site with summer breakfast sales; pub a mile away
Farm yourself and the family out to Whitehall Farm for a north Norfolk that’s well set for both countryside and coast. This scenic site is within the grounds of Holkham Estate, about a mile from the village of Burnham Thorpe – a proper rural location that's also only a couple of miles from the north Norfolk coast. Settling down in this spot means you’ll be well placed for walks – either on local rural trails or along the Norfolk Coastal Path, which runs for 45 miles from Hunstanton to Cromer. The Broads National Park is about an hour's drive away too, for more walks plus boating and watersports in scenic surroundings. Closer to home are the wonderful Holkham Hall, some cute seaside towns and some fabulous sandy beaches, along with the smart village of Burnham Market – five minutes' drive away and a great place to find pubs, cafés, restaurants and independent food shops (including a farm shop, a baker and a butcher for your barbecue supplies). Fancy a walk to a pub? Strike out for Burnham Thorpe, 20 minutes away on foot – there’s a historic pub here named after Lord Nelson, who was born in the village. Take a look at his statue too before you settle in for your pint of ale in the garden. Back on site, you'll be staying in a spacious grass meadow with access to handy facilities including toilets, showers and a kitchen area with microwave, fridge and freezer. In peak season you’ll be able to buy baps and coffees for an easy breakfast too.

What customers say

Reviewers consistently praise the spacious pitches, friendly and welcoming owners, and the beautiful rural surroundings. Facilities, including showers and toilets, are generally described as clean and well-maintained, with many appreciating the communal fridges and freezer. The on-site bar, cafe, and occasional entertainment are popular features. Minor points include occasional issues with dog leads, a few comments on dated facilities, and one report of a grumpy owner. The location is considered excellent for exploring the local coastline and attractions.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked We'd been to Whitehall Farm years ago and remembered it fondly.

The facilities have clearly had proper investment and proper thought. The showers are genuinely hot with good pressure, not the usual thirty-second trickle you brace yourself for in other sites. Toilets were spotless every time we used them, at every hour of the day. Everything felt looked after and cared for.

The breakfast cafe/bistro was a lovely surprise too. Sensible pricing and the food is properly good! My daughters loved the hash browns and locally supplied sausages and bacon. The onsite bar was an equally welcome surprise!

The owners are what tie it all together. Genuinely lovely people who checked in and who made sure everything ran smoothly - including quietly making sure everyone stuck to the rules, which is why the site stays as pleasant as it is. Their local knowledge was outstanding too. The advice on tides and weather during the extreme high tide was well beyond what anyone would expect, and they went out of their way to make sure people knew what was coming and planned around it.

Quiet times were respected without anyone needing to be asked, and fellow campers looked after the place and treated it with respect. The site attracts a really good mix - families, couples in tents, solo cyclists passing through, groups, dogs on leads, plus glamping and caravans - and it all works together rather than one crowd dominating.

A well-run, well-loved site with owners who clearly care. We'll be back, and it won't be years this time.

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Facilities were great with the large pitch size and wide open spaces, the reception staff was really helpful. In the fridge area there was about 10 odd fridges which meant plenty of space and the toilet and shower areas were pretty clean. one night we sat out in the quiet and did some stargazing which was great with the little light pollution.

Disliked The sign is difficult to spot on the first pass so I had to turn around - whoops

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Many thanks for your kind review and we are pleased to read that you found the camping pitches large and plenty of fridges.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Well equipped, phone charging point, clean showers/toilet block. Lots of fridges to use (free of charge), breakfast cafe, small evening bar, WiFi even at the far reaches of the camp

Really friendly staff and very quick check in system

Disliked 3 rather tatty chemical toilets at the bottom of the camp, otherwise quite a walk to the toilet block.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Many thanks for your review and we are pleased to read that you would visit again and recommend to friends.

We only have the chemical toilets for the 6 weeks summer holidays to help and so you do not have as far to go to the toilets in the middle of the night.

We hope to see you again soon.

Local attractions

At the centre of the Holkham Estate is Holkham Hall (10 minutes’ drive), a Palladian mansion with a museum, walled gardens, marble hall and parrot room; the estate surrounding the hall leads on to Holkham National Nature Reserve and the white sands of Holkham beach (where Gwyneth Paltrow had a wander at the end of Shakespeare in Love). Turning right from the beach and walking along the sands for a couple of miles is a very scenic way to reach the seaside port of Wells-next-the-Sea (otherwise 10 minutes’ drive), known for its colourful beach huts and popular with kids crabbing from the quay. Cromer (45 minutes) is another popular seaside town, with several museums and a Victorian pier. Blakeney (20 minutes) is another hotspot, for its seal-spotting boat trips. Other ideas for outings include the pilgrim village of Walsingham (10 minutes), the royal residence Sandringham Estate (25 minutes), the National Trust's Felbrigg Hall, Gardens & Estate (45 minutes) and the family-friendly BeWILDerwood Norfolk (an hour). Norwich and the Broads National Park are also about an hour away.
