  • Spacious north Norfolk farm site a mile from Burnham Thorpe
  • Holkham Hall and Wells-next-the-Sea within 10 minutes' drive
  • Dog-friendly site with summer breakfast sales; pub a mile away
Farm yourself and the family out to Whitehall Farm for a north Norfolk that’s well set for both countryside and coast. This scenic site is within the grounds of Holkham Estate, about a mile from the village of Burnham Thorpe – a proper rural location that's also only a couple of miles from the north Norfolk coast. Settling down in this spot means you’ll be well placed for walks – either on local rural trails or along the Norfolk Coastal Path, which runs for 45 miles from Hunstanton to Cromer. The Broads National Park is about an hour's drive away too, for more walks plus boating and watersports in scenic surroundings. Closer to home are the wonderful Holkham Hall, some cute seaside towns and some fabulous sandy beaches, along with the smart village of Burnham Market – five minutes' drive away and a great place to find pubs, cafés, restaurants and independent food shops (including a farm shop, a baker and a butcher for your barbecue supplies). Fancy a walk to a pub? Strike out for Burnham Thorpe, 20 minutes away on foot – there’s a historic pub here named after Lord Nelson, who was born in the village. Take a look at his statue too before you settle in for your pint of ale in the garden. Back on site, you'll be staying in a spacious grass meadow with access to handy facilities including toilets, showers and a kitchen area with microwave, fridge and freezer. In peak season you’ll be able to buy baps and coffees for an easy breakfast too.

What customers say

This is a beautiful and well-equipped site with spacious pitches. Guests consistently praise the friendly, welcoming, and helpful staff and owners. Facilities are noted as spotless and well-maintained, with particular highlights including the on-site bar, "The Piston," and the breakfast cafe. The location is considered excellent for exploring nearby areas. A minor point raised was the clarity of additional charges for EHU. The manager has addressed concerns regarding washing-up water temperature and dog policies.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Great facilities. Nice showers. Nice having a bar on site for a bit of socialising. Overall a good campsite. Very quiet at night especially. Nice being able to have a fire.

Disliked Seemed quite stoney a couple of inches under the surface which made getting the tent pegs in a bit of a faff, but maybe we were just unlucky where we chose to pitch.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely site and facilities. Extra large pitch sizes. Amazing wildlife and great location right next to Holkham.

Disliked - shower curtains

- Rude staff member. I was reprimanded the second I got to the site by a staff member saying I couldn't park where I was (I had pulled to the side of a extremely wide thoroughfare and still had my engine on) whilst my wife had literally just gone to reception to check-in and find out where we were supposed to go. Not the friendliest welcome at all and made me nearly turn back to find a different site.

From the manager: Many thanks for your review and we are pleased to read that you loved the facilities and the extra large pitch size.

Very sorry about asking you to move, however, we had a horse lorry that could not get past and was trying to get out.

We hope you come and see us again.

Local attractions

At the centre of the Holkham Estate is Holkham Hall (10 minutes’ drive), a Palladian mansion with a museum, walled gardens, marble hall and parrot room; the estate surrounding the hall leads on to Holkham National Nature Reserve and the white sands of Holkham beach (where Gwyneth Paltrow had a wander at the end of Shakespeare in Love). Turning right from the beach and walking along the sands for a couple of miles is a very scenic way to reach the seaside port of Wells-next-the-Sea (otherwise 10 minutes’ drive), known for its colourful beach huts and popular with kids crabbing from the quay. Cromer (45 minutes) is another popular seaside town, with several museums and a Victorian pier. Blakeney (20 minutes) is another hotspot, for its seal-spotting boat trips. Other ideas for outings include the pilgrim village of Walsingham (10 minutes), the royal residence Sandringham Estate (25 minutes), the National Trust's Felbrigg Hall, Gardens & Estate (45 minutes) and the family-friendly BeWILDerwood Norfolk (an hour). Norwich and the Broads National Park are also about an hour away.
