  • Spacious north Norfolk farm site a mile from Burnham Thorpe
  • Holkham Hall and Wells-next-the-Sea within 10 minutes' drive
  • Dog-friendly site with summer breakfast sales; pub a mile away
Farm yourself and the family out to Whitehall Farm for a north Norfolk that’s well set for both countryside and coast. This scenic site is within the grounds of Holkham Estate, about a mile from the village of Burnham Thorpe – a proper rural location that's also only a couple of miles from the north Norfolk coast. Settling down in this spot means you’ll be well placed for walks – either on local rural trails or along the Norfolk Coastal Path, which runs for 45 miles from Hunstanton to Cromer. The Broads National Park is about an hour's drive away too, for more walks plus boating and watersports in scenic surroundings. Closer to home are the wonderful Holkham Hall, some cute seaside towns and some fabulous sandy beaches, along with the smart village of Burnham Market – five minutes' drive away and a great place to find pubs, cafés, restaurants and independent food shops (including a farm shop, a baker and a butcher for your barbecue supplies). Fancy a walk to a pub? Strike out for Burnham Thorpe, 20 minutes away on foot – there’s a historic pub here named after Lord Nelson, who was born in the village. Take a look at his statue too before you settle in for your pint of ale in the garden. Back on site, you'll be staying in a spacious grass meadow with access to handy facilities including toilets, showers and a kitchen area with microwave, fridge and freezer. In peak season you’ll be able to buy baps and coffees for an easy breakfast too.

What customers say

This is a highly recommended campsite with spacious pitches, excellent, clean facilities, including showers and toilets, and a popular on-site bar and cafe serving good food. Staff and owners are consistently described as friendly and welcoming. The location is praised for its proximity to local attractions and beaches, and the site offers a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere. Some minor points were raised regarding the need for potential updates to facilities and clarity on extra charges, which the manager has noted.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked It had good facilities; toilets ,showers, fridges and a freezer, microwave and kettle. As well as a charging station for phones and also provided some hairdryers. They had a lot of leaflets showing what you could do. The site was clean the food at breakfast was lovely and the bar was reasonably priced. It’s got a nice beach nearby ( either an hour and a half walk or a quick drive and then just a half hour walk).

Disliked It is about a 20 minute drive to the shops.

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Super location outside of Wells next the Sea and Burnham Market. We had booked for three nights as four nights weren't available, so next time I'll book direct, you should too. The pitches are so spacious, I'm not sure I could see our neighbours; after coming from two nights at a site near Sandringham this was a revelation. We didn't try the cafe in the morning, and only went to the bar on the last night, which was a shame in hindsight. Vary friendly, and really reasonable prices. It’s a bit of a trek form where we are but, I suspect we will be back next year. And the staff are lovely, sorry, I nearly forgot that. For the old guys (60 plus), there is a garage between the café and he bar that you can wander around that has cars in there from your era, old! Fianlly the facilities are very clean.

Disliked Nothing, although I should have booked direct so all the fees went ot the site owners.

Local attractions

At the centre of the Holkham Estate is Holkham Hall (10 minutes’ drive), a Palladian mansion with a museum, walled gardens, marble hall and parrot room; the estate surrounding the hall leads on to Holkham National Nature Reserve and the white sands of Holkham beach (where Gwyneth Paltrow had a wander at the end of Shakespeare in Love). Turning right from the beach and walking along the sands for a couple of miles is a very scenic way to reach the seaside port of Wells-next-the-Sea (otherwise 10 minutes’ drive), known for its colourful beach huts and popular with kids crabbing from the quay. Cromer (45 minutes) is another popular seaside town, with several museums and a Victorian pier. Blakeney (20 minutes) is another hotspot, for its seal-spotting boat trips. Other ideas for outings include the pilgrim village of Walsingham (10 minutes), the royal residence Sandringham Estate (25 minutes), the National Trust's Felbrigg Hall, Gardens & Estate (45 minutes) and the family-friendly BeWILDerwood Norfolk (an hour). Norwich and the Broads National Park are also about an hour away.
