General

  • Farm site just north of Norwich
  • Seven acres of flat and well-drained land
  • Communal covered firepit area

Reach for the skies and enjoy a stopover at Top Farm Caravan and Camping Site where you can experience dizzy new heights among the woodland of the Norfolk countryside.

The aptly-named farm is just north of Norwich in the small town of Marsham, 20 minutes from the pretty Norfolk coast. It’s been owned by generations of the same family and you’ll feel on top of the world during your stay - seven acres of well-drained, flat land and views of the Norfolk countryside to make for some very happy campers. Keep your feet on the ground with a stroll into the woodlands of Marsham Heath, which back on to the campsite.

Top-notch facilities include a dishwashing area and a well-maintained toilet block with an equally well-looked after separate shower block, all with plenty of hot water. A chemical waste disposal point, fridge/freezer and a communal covered area with firepit and chiminea are also ready for guests to use.

Please note

A charge of £1.00 applies for the use of shower.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

From the manager...

I was very surprised and upset to read this hugely disappointing review of our Campsite & Facilities

I should like to share my recollections of this incident:

I encountered this very unhappy customer on the Saturday afternoon of their stay - he was very evidently upset, and had taken great exception to another PitchUp Booking namely ID:G69PETEC - a group of young people.

(Quite how I'm supposed to better 'vet' our visitor clients from PitchUp - I'm afraid that I'm at a total loss to comprehend!?)

When learning of this unhappy and angry client's stated immediate intention of leaving Top Farm that Saturday afternoon, owing to the other groups intolerable unruliness, I immediately refunded him the total two nights pitch fees in cash (they had booked for two nights, but were leaving unhappily after staying only one) which I mistakenly believed was was gratefully received at that time

I then dealt with the unruly behaviour of the other group.

I didn't think that it would be a good strategic move to remonstrate with the group whilst the complainant (Booking ID:ZYK8KFHZ) was still on site, as it might have exasperated an already incendiary situation!

Owner was friendly and helpful - lent us an area map and a long hook up cable
    Lots of grounds to explore
    Toilets were clean
    Peaceful spot

    Disliked:

Showers were poor. £1 for 6 minutes and no power to them. Only 2 showers for a big site.
The track up to the site was awful - lots of bumps and ruts, very narrow and not good for the suspension of a heavy Campervan

Fantastic peaceful site with a helpful and friendly owner. The pitches were wel spaced out and we got a picnic bench with ours. Loved being able to have a fire pit on our pitch. Our tent was on a hill overlooking a field and some woods. In the mornings and evenings we could watch barn owls hunting right in front of us. There were also lots of nice walks into the woods and Heath land right from the campsite. Toilets and washing up area were clean and well maintained. We did not find the access track to be a problem- as long as you drive slowly it is fine.

Beautifully kept campsite so clean and quiet, lovely location 30 mins from Norwich and not far from the coast. We took our dog and there is an amazing dog walk around fields with dog bins on the way and then miles of woods to explore if you want to walk further. I loved it and will be going back. I highly recommend it if you want to be in the heart of the countryside away from it. Very friendly and helpful owners

Local attractions

Wave hello to north Norfolk’s seafronts and lap up the entertainment you’ll find for all. Less than half an hour from the coast, the five beaches closest to Top Farm will all have you diving in feet first with their top-quality bathing water.

Try and refrain yourself from putting in an offer on one of the colourful beachfront huts overlooking the sandy expanse at Mundesley, while the Victorian pier at Cromer shows any seaside town ‘just the way to do it’ with traditional rides and entertainment taking place on and around the historic pier and in its Pavilion Theatre, along with ice cream parlours and Mary Jane’s renowned fish and chip restaurant that’s anyfin but ordinary.

You’ll be on just the right track with little locomotive enthusiasts as you chug along to the Bure Valley Railway - Norfolk’s longest 15-inch gauge line. The 18-mile round trip runs from Aylsham to Wroxham and back and you can hop aboard at either stop (each are around 30 minutes in the car north or south of Top Farm) and it runs through many a market town enroute. Controllers-in-the-making will be steaming with delight as they spot the wildlife in the rivers and meadows along the way. The cycle and walking trail which runs alongside the line is a rail treat too.

Go wild at BeWILDerwood, only 13 miles away, for a creepy-crawlingly good day of fun. This is the Norfolk Broads as you’ve never seen before - from treehouses to tricky tunnels and storybook characters young bookworms will be wriggling to meet, the intriguing characters hanging around the BeWILDerwood forest put an interesting ‘folk’ into Norfolk, and kids will be desperate to get exploring.

For tiring the tots out or for simply some of the best ways to see the local area, walking paths and cycle routes are bursting around the Broads, while if you fancy dabbling in the water itself, canoe hire is also available for active and nature-spotting types.

Thorpe Marshes is 30 minutes south by car where you can spy species of damsel- and dragonfly and Cockshoot Broads, around half an hour to the east, is brilliant for birdspotters.

Fifteen minutes’ drive northward and you’ll be tickling with excitement as you arrive at Blickling - a National Trust property which will have historians hankering to find out more about the area. With gardens to get the green-fingered positively emerald with envy and home to a book collection which will have library lovers falling over themselves, a day out at Blickling Estate is a must. The Muddy Boots café on site means everyone’s invited for a scone, no matter how you get there…

Food, drink, art, history...if your group of holidaymakers have an interest every which way - a day trip to Norwich city centre will have them all going ‘nanas for Norfolk and it’s just half an hour’s drive south from Top Farm.
