General

  • Family park eight miles from Norwich
  • Clubhouse on site with evening entertainment (subject to demand)
  • Heated outdoor pool, tennis courts and pétanque court

Coo, what a view! The scenic sights of this site will hit you as soon as you skip through the gate and look down at the site at Merryhill Country Park: a pool encased by plants and a rockery, acres of grass to sunbathe on, and a landscaped suntrap of a camping field...

And coo, what a lot to do too on site too… the energetic could tackle one of the two all-weather tennis courts, the big grassy area for ball games or the pétanque court – if you don't know what pétanque is, you've never been to a French campsite...

If chilling is more the name of your game, make your way to the clubhouse next to the swimming pool, for a game of pool, darts or table tennis, and send the kids off to keep themselves amused with the clubhouse's games, library and Wii – you might not see them for hours.

The Merryhill clubhouse is also the park hub for many different social events during the year: expect discos, race nights, fish and chip nights and live music on various nights; ask the team when you get there if anything is on during your stay. (Unless otherwise specified, Saturday nights are disco nights, so bring your best moves.)

Pitches at Merryhill are on that landscaped suntrap of a camping field, many with views over the pool and all with optional electric. Guests have access to a campers' kitchen, a washing machine and tumble dryer; also on site is a modern shower block with separate gents', ladies' and disabled-friendly loos.

Nearby, the Ringland Swan pub and the Parsons Woodforde pub are both within three miles; Longwater Retail Park with shops and fast food outlets, is just over four miles away, and the Chapelfield shopping centre is under ten miles.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/05 and 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Excellent, no issues would use again. 23/12/2017

The showers and toilet block appear to be quite new, and throughout the stay were clean and tidy, and the showers were warm.

The staff were friendly and were still around when we arrived slightly later than planned due to traffic.

The site is well located for quick trips to the local supermarket and shops as well as day trips to Norwich City centre or nearby towns.

    Disliked:

I have no major issues to mention, the was some noise from a random chicken that was wandering about, but this is not the fault of the site, and will no doubt be a foxes dinner at some point.

There are only two showers in each of the men and the ladies, and I imagine there could be a queue at peak times, but if this is major issue get a hotel.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, escorting us onto the site and giving us a choice of pitch. Although our caravan has a small washroom we preferred to use the shower block which was clean and had under floor heating. Grass pitches were level. The site itself is quite close to Norwich. There is a launderette on the site and vending machines for sweets etc but no shop.

Nice site. Clean facilities. Friendly staff

    Disliked:

Club was not open Saturday evening as advertised. We were pitched next to a gravel road which was very noisy and was main entrance to the whole site so got very busy at times , taking into account the site was very quiet this would be unbearable during high season.

From the manager...

Glad you liked the site and the clean facilities.

The club didn't open on Saturday as it wasn't advertised.
We do open the club room on a Friday night Sept & Oct, You did comment that it wasn't as busy a site as you like as you do like Haven holidays, we do not even try to compete with them.
The gravel road can be noisy we appreciate that but we do ask people to drive slowly, to minimize the noise, but do to the land that is all we can use.

We hope to see you again soon.

Lovely family friendly campsite, great facilities with the club house ... 04/09/2017

Lovely family friendly campsite, great facilities with the club house and heated outdoor pool. Perfect for hanging out during the day with the pool if you don't fancy a day out, and it was great for the day that it rained too! There is also a lovely play area for children. We have an only child and we were able to relax as he played with all of the other children who were of all ages.
We went to Cromer and Hunstanton for the beach. It was an hour away for each but as the journey was so picturesque we hardly noticed.
There is also a nice village pub called the Swan a 2 minute drive away close to the river which is lovely for paddling. The pub does excellent food but is. Little on the pricey side, so unless you are minted, it's probably a treat. There is another cheaper family friendly pub called the copper beech if you want to eat out.
Anyway, we loved it and are planning to return next summer!

The pitch sizes were very generous (useful if you have a large tent). The outdoor pool was heated - just enough to take the chill off but it meant that our little ones would use it without complaining (and asked to go back again). Outdoor pools at other sites we've stayed at have been far too cold, even a hot day in the UK doesn't warm them up enough. There are things for young and older kids to do - a good play park, tennis and basketball courts and a table tennis table. The evening entertainment is great fun and drinks are not as expensive as some sites - oh and the staff and owners are all very friendly.
The site and showers/toilets were all kept clean.
Great location - secluded but with easy access to Norwich.
We will certainly be coming back again.

    Disliked:

The hot water in the showers near the pool was intermittent but the ones in the new block are excellent so we just went there instead.

Local attractions

Stacks of family options are close by Merryhill Country Park, like Norfolk Showground and Dinosaur Adventure Land under five miles and both BeWILDerwood and Banham Zoo within 17—25.

The splendid city of Norwich is less than 11 miles away – if you only have a day here, see the castle and/or cathedral; if you have a bit longer, also take in the marketplace, shopping in the Lanes and the rest of the Norwich 12, the dozen old buildings including Norwich Castle and the cathedral.

A quieter urban day out is at the market town of East Dereham 20 minutes' drive from Merryhill; Greentrees Caravans is here too to pick up any last minute bits and pieces of caravan kit.

If you're in Norfolk for walks or pedals, the Ringland Hills, the Wensum Valley and a bike trail along an old railway line can all be accessed outside the Merryhill clubhouse entrance – bring the camera to take pics of the abundant local wildlife.

Also take time to visit the Royal Norwich Golf Club six and a half miles away; Carrow Road within 11; Whitlingham Broad within 15 and Wroxham about 22.5 miles from base.
