  • Small family-friendly site in the Broadland countryside
  • A five-minute drive to The Broads; 25 minutes to the coast or Norwich
  • Shop in the local village; on-site bar on Friday and Saturday evenings
Historic Norwich, the Broads National Park and the Norfolk coast… take them on in one fell swoop at Foragers Rest. This is not your typical site in any sense, with goats and sheep next door and free-roaming guinea pigs whistling around the site. Small and family-friendly, Foragers Rest has handy amenities for the family. There is a toilet block, a shower, a chemical disposal point and a washing-up area. And all the family are welcome here, furry or not - just remember, they’re not the only furry creatures about, so they must be kept on leads. There’s plenty of space on the pitches to get set up just how you like it. Once you’re burrowed in cosily, get your clogs on and hot-step it to Norwich’s historic sites 25 minutes’ drive away (or 10 minutes if you want to park and ride into the city) or a stretch of The Broads’ 125 mile-strong waterways (accessible from a five-minute drive). The Norfolk coast is also only 25 minutes’ drive away. The river is a short walk away (or even quicker to access with a car ride) should you fancy breaking your paddleboards or kayaks into the Norfolk channels. As for activities on site, the site has a bar on Fridays and Saturdays between 6pm and 10pm. Food first? There’s a pub, a fish and chips shop and a grocery shop in the village, 20 minutes’ walk away, as well as a gastro pub (more of the latter are a short drive away). The village also has a station on the Bure Valley Railway. This area of the Broadland countryside is known as ‘big sky country’, and set away from the road, Foragers Rest gets its fair share of splendid sunsets. The night-time vibe can be enhanced with a barbecue, or by heading to one of the local eateries.

Liked: Value for money
Clean toilet/shower block
Hot showers
Good size flat grass pitch
The children loved the sheep, goats and Guinea pigs.
Friendly hosts.

Disliked: Limited phone reception and data. Although this didn’t spoil our stay, it just took time for the kids to adjust 😂

Liked: This is the sort of campsite we love. Small, family focused, well maintained with decent toilet / shower block. Very friendly hosts that make you feel very welcomed. Will aim to return.

Location is good for access to Wroxham, the broads, Bewilderwood…

Animals on site were a welcome source of entertainment for my four and six year olds.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing. I don’t think there is WiFi available but this wasn’t an expectation nor problem. We are camping after all.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: This will be our second stay with Foragers rest. We absolutely love this campsite♥️I once had a bad experience years ago in Devon and told myself I would never camp again. After camping here for the first time in 2023 it definitely helped me over come my phobia of camping. The owners are so friendly and the animals are a great addition ♥️.The only thing I would like to see them add is extra showers and toilets and some outdoor electric sockets near the shower blocks😊👍All the facilities are super clean. We love the fact it's only 30 min to cromer and just under an hour to Holkham and wells next to sea. The foragers have a bar on a Friday and Saturday evenings which we didn't use but instead went out to the fur and feather in Woodbastwick which is about a 20 min drive away.

Disliked: No outdoor plug sockets
Only two showers and in really busy times can be extremely difficult to get a shower.

Liked: Foragers Rest is a lovely campsite in the Norfolk countryside just outside Buxton. There are two flat fields, one with good trees if you want shade. There are goats, sheep, chickens and ducks as well as free roaming guinea pigs. The showers, loos and washing up area were all clean. On Friday and Saturday nights there is an onsite bar selling the local beer as well as a choice of other drinks. The beer is delicious and refreshing on a warm evening.

Disliked: Nothing

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: What a gorgeous, peaceful and calming place! I absolutely loved my stay at Forager's. The showers, toilets and washing up areas were spotlessly clean, the plots are huge with plenty of space to spread out.
Added highlights were the stars at night, the sociable animals and wonderfully soft grass that is simply BEGGING for bare feet...
I will be staying here again, thank you.

Disliked: Nothing at all to dislike, my stay was perfect.

Liked: Lovely and quiet, pitches are plenty big enough. Maximum four tents throughout our stay, so the boys could run and play. Animals are wonderful, and surround the little field so could let our eldest go and see them as much as he liked as long as he could see the tent, he loved having that independence. Hot showers, clean amenities. Just what we wanted, absolutely perfect.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike. The only thing that could have made it more perfect would have been a tyre swing or a little natural play area. Absolutely no complaints, it was marvellous and we will be back!

Local attractions

Being in the middle of the Norfolk countryside has its perks… foodies can flock to the market town of Aylsham (10 minutes’ drive) beside the River Bure for lush local produce and ‘slow food’ concept eateries. Blickling Hall (15 minutes), a Jacobean stately home, is easily combined into one trip. From Aylsham, there’s a footpath to Wroxham (20 minutes). There, board the Bure Valley Railway for a steam train journey back to Buxton (by your new base). Towards the Norfolk coast and right on the edge of The Broads, Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens (40 minutes) has a small zoo or, for adventurous types, a treetop adventure course. But of course, those Broads and the gorgeous Norfolk coast must somehow feature in your itinerary. The seaside at Mundesley (25 minutes) was just as popular in the Victorian era as it is now. Wroxham (20 minutes), set on the River Yare, has a riverside park and boats available for hire.
