  • Friendly, well-maintained site just outside Mundesley, north Norfolk
  • Cromer 20 minutes’ drive; Norwich 40 minutes
  • Pub, supermarket and other amenities within a mile
Pick a pitch at Hayfield Hideaways if you want to be close to some of the most splendid parts of Norfolk’s north coast. Surrounded by natural scenes and within easy walking distance (15 minutes, via a footpath) of the traditional village of Mundesley (and its beach), this site is also a five-minute walk from a bus stop where you can catch the Norfolk Coasthopper. It really couldn’t be easier to leave the car behind. Hayfield Hideaways is a family-run business that welcomes well-behaved kids and waggy-tailed friends. This is the sort of place to head to if you’re after a simple rural escape surrounded by lots of open space. In addition to a level grass field, the well-maintained site has a good range of basic services, with two toilets and two showers, plus other handy facilities like waste disposal points. After a long day exploring what’s on offer in the surrounding area – from North Sea beaches to the Norfolk Broads (half an hour’s drive) – you can relax at your pitch over a barbecue or head towards Mundesley, where there’s a variety of spots to eat including pubs, restaurants and fish and chip shops. Other amenities – a supermarket, butcher’s shop, ice-cream parlour and fruit and veg shop – are within a mile of the site.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great sized pitch in a beautiful setting, the toilets and showers were spotless and plenty of lovely hot water.
The owners were really friendly, they froze our ice packs and returned the next day, they pointed out the footpath to the village which was really close. We had excellent fish and chips.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This is a very peaceful site. Well layed out.
The showers and toilet area were very clean and really well made.
It's about a 15-20 minute walk to the beach and there's a play ground on the way there.
The owners came round to check everything was ok later in the evening and they seems pleasant and polite. Other than that it was the only time was saw any staff. Which say a lot about a site.
The grass where the pitches were is cut short but the rest is left long, which is nice as you get to see the insects and butterflies and listen to the grasshoppers.

Disliked The time we visited there was no light in the shower so had to have a torch. The place is completely run off solar or battery lighting. So I'm guessing the battery had died. But as long as you've got a torch. You'll be good.
There not much space for children to play, but like I said there's a beach and a playground a short walk away.
I'd say it's more angled towards adults and older children. But that's my though. Mine are 10 and 15, but they still had a good time.
These are in no way "bad" or real dislikes points, just observations.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Good-sized and well defined pitches in mown areas amongst the long grass. All the facilities I needed (ie toilet, shower, water, washing up area and some ability to charge devices) and none I didn't need. Exactly what I look for in a site. Not too far from the coast path.

Disliked Wouldn't stay again as a solo traveller as it's quite expensive for 1 as it's priced by the pitch with presumption that it's a family staying on the pitch (so excellent value for 6 people, not so good for 1). Ground was very hard and difficult to get stakes in, due to the dry weather. Not as quiet as it should have been after dark, but was bank holiday week during school holidays, and road was surprisingly noisy at times.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We’re pleased you enjoyed your stay at our campsite, especially our unique pitches, facilities, and location.
All of our pitches are set back from the road and separated by the native trees and hedging we planted 5 years ago, which are now establishing and provide natural screening. While we understand that our pricing may not suit everyone, we believe it is highly competitive compared to other local sites, given our spacious pitches, which are separated by tall wild grass and flowers rather than positioned side by side. Guests can also leave their car on site and enjoy a short walk to the village or beach. We appreciate your feedback and wish you all the best in your future travels.

Liked This place is amazing. Excellent sized pitches. Toilets and showers were spotless. We stayed for one night it was peaceful within Beautiful surroundings. The owners were extremely helpful. Even going above and beyond to find us some wood for the fire pit that they deliver to your pitch. I’d highly recommend anyone that wants a night off grid in the motorhome to visit this site.

Local attractions

The lively programme at the Pavilion Theatre in Cromer (20 minutes’ drive) includes tribute musical acts, stand-up comedy sessions and dance nights. The theatre occupies the tip of the town’s Victorian pier, where there are also a handful of dining options. Take a leisurely walk along the beach before climbing the Doctor’s Steps up to North Lodge Park. Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate (20 minutes) is a National Trust country house with elegant interiors decorated with delicate wallpaper (including hand-printed examples), paintings and handmade furniture. Aromatic herbs grow in the pretty walled garden, while the grounds include a vast area of woodland. In Norwich (40 minutes), take a trip back to the Middle Ages as you stroll along Elm Hill, a cobbled street lined with half-timbered buildings. Or visit Norwich Cathedral, with its splendid vaulted cloister, where you can meditate as you walk along the central grass labyrinth. There are views of the River Wensum’s leafy banks from St George’s St Bridge.
