The park at sunset

  • Well-maintained, peaceful and family-friendly park at Scratby, Norfolk
  • Scratby Beach 20 minutes’ walk; five minutes’ drive to Ormesby Broad
  • Dog-friendly park with a children's play area
What’s it to be – Norfolk beaches or the broads? Stay at Scratby Hall Caravan Park and you get the best of both worlds: 20 minutes’ walk takes you to the beach, and five minutes’ drive sees you at Ormesby Broad, with all its opportunities for sailing, fishing and birdwatching. With a rural location on the outskirts of the coastal village of Scratby, the park is a peaceful base for campers set in five acres fringed by farmland. The neatly kept camping field has level pitches for tents or trailer tents, as well as a food-preparation area and a washing-up room. You’re welcome to bring barbecues with you. If you’re reluctant to leave your furry chums at home, the site is wonderfully canine-friendly with miles of walks on bridleways straight from the pitches. Dogs are also permitted on a number of local beaches all year around, so they’ll certainly get plenty of exercise out and about with you.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained and peaceful campsite with spacious, level pitches and friendly, helpful staff. Facilities, including toilet and shower blocks and an on-site shop, are consistently praised for their cleanliness. While some guests noted the showers could be improved in terms of power and temperature, others found them adequate. The site is considered excellent for families, with a good play area. Its location is convenient for beach access and exploring nearby attractions. A few minor issues were mentioned, including distant road noise and occasional issues with noise from other guests.

Liked Lovely site very family friendly with some great touches like tap on most pitches for water.

Disliked Main road was a bit noisy at night time but didn't disturb too much.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We had such a lovely stay at this campsite! It’s peaceful and quiet, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the whole site is probably the cleanest we’ve ever stayed at.

A huge bonus for families with younger children is the family bathroom with both a shower and a bath — such a great idea and really convenient.

We’d definitely recommend this campsite and would happily come back! 😊

Liked It was quite and welcome from Angela was lovely. It was nice there was a shop for essentials and a nice walk to the beach

Disliked It is a lovely campsite although needs a few improvements as feels a little dated, The showers in the non-electric field were not powerful, water dribbled out and the cubical was tiny. When I went to mop the floor the mop had seen better days. Washing up was tricky as 1. The water was piping hot, there are 2 massive butler sinks but nowhere to drain your washed up pots. Like I said it is a lovely campsite it just needs a little TLC

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed the peaceful setting and the warm welcome.
We are sorry that you missed the main washing up room; the sinks that you mention are just extras for busy times. We also had several washroom blocks open during your stay, so there were alternatives available.

Liked Spacious, lovely park for our nearly 2 year old. Friendly and welcoming in the office.

Disliked Nothing to be fair, if we were being really picky, the speed of running water in the showers was very slow, but it's not the end of the world!

Liked Space for children to play on the field. Exceptionally clean showers and toilets. Family bathroom with bath, shower and loo, that my 7 yr old described as a 'luxury' bathroom. Staff all v friendly.

Disliked Would be useful to have a freezer for ice blocks.

From the manager: We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

We are so sorry that you were not able to find our freezer for ice packs that is located in the laundry room. It is a free, self-service facility that is new for this year so please accept our apologies that you were not able to find it during your stay.

We hope that this did not spoil your stay with us and hope to see you again in the future.

Local attractions

When it’s time to head for the sea, gather up the kids and the dogs for the stroll down to Scratby Beach (20 minutes' walk) and go wild swimming or fishing. Other local options include the soft sand backed by cafés at Hemsby (five minutes' drive) or Sea Palling (20 minutes), popular for kiting and known for seal spotting. For more seaside-town action, Great Yarmouth (15 minutes) has amusements on the pier and rainy-day attractions such as the aquariums at SEA LIFE and the indoor pool at the Marina Leisure Centre. If the weather is good, turn inland to the extensive network of cycling and walking trails in the Broads National Park (15 minutes), as well as fishing, birdwatching and boating. It’s a doddle to keep the kids entertained too; the first port of call might be Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens (15 minutes), where you can get up close to protected big cats from wooden viewing platforms. For more active days out, scramble around on the jungle bridges and zipwires at BeWILDerwood Norfolk (25 minutes), or brave the thrill rides at Pleasurewood Hills Family Theme Park (35 minutes), where there’s also a petting zoo and gentle attractions for younger folk.
