  • Outdoor pool, plus on-site pub with pool table and outdoor seating
Sometimes in life it’s great to be right in the thick of the action… but at other times you’ll want to be well away from all that, in a place where you can really relax. If it’s the latter you’re after right now, turn your sights to Waveney Valley Holiday Park, a secluded and peaceful haven in the Norfolk countryside. This is something of an ‘out-of-the-way’ location that encourages guests to unwind in the fresh air, well away from everyday stresses like traffic noise. It may be all nature sounds and sights around here, but in fact it’s not completely removed from civilisation, as it will only take you a few minutes to drive here from either the A140 or A143. Similarly close by are the village of Dickleburgh and the town of Harleston, both within 10 minutes’ drive and handy for shops, takeaways and places to eat. If you don’t fancy going that far, you may be pleased to hear the local pub (in the village of Rushall) is just over five minutes’ walk away and has a good food menu as well as all the usual drinks offerings. And if you don’t even fancy going that far… well, how handy that there’s a pub on site too, where you can relax with your favourite tipple, play a game of pool or head out into the cosy outdoor seating area to make the most of the sunshine (hopefully). If it is indeed sunny you may well want to check out the outdoor swimming pool too (before your pint, obviously). Other facilities on site include a fully equipped launderette and a clean and tidy toilet/shower block.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked: we liked the area, we can go back, but only in the summer.

Disliked: floor completely soaked, due to the rain, we had difficulty getting out without getting stuck.

Probably nice in the summer. But pretty poor in November!

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked: Lovely area. Great local pub. Nice pitch.

Disliked: Park was basically closed down. No pub (which is advertised on site), no hot water in shower, no running water in washing up stations! Showers in need of modernisation. Neighbouring property has dog barking all night. However I did only pay 3/4 after complaining.

Local attractions

If the word ‘Norfolk’ is quickly followed by ‘Broads’ in your mind, you’ll want to start with a trip into The Broads National Park (20 minutes’ drive) to explore this spectacular watery landscape for yourself – on foot, by bike or on the water. It’s unlikely that ‘Norfolk’ was followed by ‘wine’ in that word-association game, but that’s also an option if you take a tour of Flint Vineyard (15 minutes). That’s one for the grownups of course, so if you’ve got the kids in tow then you’ll be better off heading to one of the local animal attractions like Camel Park Oasis (20 minutes) or Africa Alive (45 minutes). The coast is a fab option for a day out too, whether you head to the genteel pleasures of Southwold (45 minutes), the thrills of Pleasurewood Hills Family Theme Park (50 minutes) or the many attractions of Great Yarmouth (50 minutes), which has a Sea Life Centre and the famed Golden Mile of amusements as well as a splendid sandy beach.
