General
- Luxury self-contained shepherd’s hut with views over sheep pastures
- Access to a footpath network; a 25-minute drive to Wells-next-the-Sea
- Adults-only site with a firepit, barbecue and outdoor dining area
How’s this for starters: mornings throwing open the French doors to get out in the fresh Norfolk air? For the main course, you might set out over the network of footpaths directly accessible from The Huddle at Big Sky or sling your beach stuff over your shoulder and head for spots like Wells-next-the-Sea (25 minutes' drive), Cromer (45 minutes) or Holkham beach (40 minutes).
For the dessert, perhaps an eve by the barbecue and firepit with a glass or bottle of something nice in hand? This luxury self-contained shepherd’s hut has views over the sheep pastures. Designed for luxury and comfort, the rural Norfolk spot is on the edge of a unique conservation village and five minutes’ walk away from the excellent local pub.
Whether you’re planning hiking, biking or mainly gobbling down lots of tasty Norfolk fare at the local farm shops, restaurants, pubs, breweries, distilleries and shops a short drive away, this is a lush adults-only spot.
The kingsize bed has views through floor-to-ceiling French doors to the outdoor dining area. There’s underfloor heating, additional heating, wifi, a smart TV and an interior bathroom with a big shower. Storage and drying facilities are also provided in the lamb shed.
The shop in Mileham, five minutes’ drive away, should have most of what you need for a tasty barbecue spread, but there are more extensive options for foodies in the market towns of Fakenham (15 minutes), Dereham (10 minutes) and Swaffham (25 minutes). Breakfasts, brunches, lunches or cakes are served at the artisan food producer and café 20 minutes’ walk away.
Belly full of good stuff, it should be good news that the hut is only 200 metres from National Cycle Route 13 (which joins up with Route 1) and a bus stop.

Local attractions
North, south, east or west? If your first priority is scenic rambles along the Norfolk Coastal Path, north is the way to go. You might want to test your luck on a seal-spotting trip from Morston (35 minutes’ drive) or plant down on a beach in Holme-next-the-Sea (40 minutes), Brancaster (35 minutes) or Wells-next-the-Sea (25 minutes).
A little of the city life (and historic sites) can be experienced in Norwich (40 minutes). Wildlife spotting continues around Norfolk’s many nature reserves, which include the RSPB Titchwell Marsh (40 minutes) and Salthouse Marshe (35 minutes). The Broads (45 minutes) will require a vessel of some sort, mind, whether it’s a paddleboard or a hire boat.
Those wanting a taste of history have little to worry about with ancient castles, the Mid-Norfolk Railway (10 minutes) and grand historic houses like Blickling Hall (35 minutes) and Holkham Hall (35 minutes) around.
