  • Simple pitches at a working smallholding in rural Norfolk
  • A mile from the coast at Cromer; half an hour's drive to Blakeney
  • Dog-friendly grass pitches with basic amenities
If simple facilities and peaceful surroundings are what it’s all about for you, the setup at Hannant’s Farm Camping should suit you rather well. This small site is part of a working smallholding farm in the Norfolk countryside, with a back-to-basics ethos that’s great for quiet rural breaks. The pitches here have been cut into two meadows, with plenty of space for all guests (dogs included) to relax and soak up the fresh air. It’s a simple place indeed, with facilities limited to just a toilet, shower, drinking water supply and bins. With fields all around, this is a proper countryside location – but it’s also very close to the coast, putting you in an excellent location for exploring everything north Norfolk has to offer. Cromer, just over a mile away, is your nearest town – it’s a handy place to find shops and places to eat and also full of options for activities, from crabbing and sandcastle building to shows at the famed pier theatre. Handily, you can get into town on the bus from a stop a few minutes’ walk away.

What customers say

This quiet, rural campsite, located a short walk from Cromer, offers friendly owners and clean facilities, including a good shower. Guests appreciate the space and ability to choose pitches. Some reviews mention the presence of farm vehicles and storage, and road noise can be intrusive. While appreciated for its value, the site is described as basic, with some guests requesting additional amenities such as a pot wash area and a sink in the toilet, which the manager has stated will be added for the next season.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Very friendly owner, who provided helpful directions before arrival and was keen to be welcoming and check our experience on the site. Site as described with further plans for upgrading next year. A small site but great because we were able to pitch a camper and tents together and enough space still that everyone had their privacy. Excellent location for exploring the area around 40 mins to walk to Cromer pier! Excellent value for money. Looking forward to returning.

Liked There weren’t too many tents and it was nice and quiet with plenty of space.

Disliked The signing for the entrance to the site was unclear with no people to meet us upon entrance. This led to confusion as to where we were meant to go. There were no sinks in the toilet and the light switch in the shower didn’t work. The shower also only had hot water in the morning and even this wasn’t steady. There was nowhere obvious to fill up bottles and the ground was uneven.

From the manager: I’m so surprised that you found it confusing as I spoke to you and said find a place to set up and carry on we are a site where we don’t want overcrowding am I’m sure if you said to anther camper where is the water they would have told you,the shower is completely new as with the toilet you might not be used to the modern heat control system all the wild camper’s love us and if you look at comments we are just what they want no body to point for you to go here or there but again use your own sense, after saying all that I’m sorry you had a quiet place with plenty of room good clean shower toilet.

A new site with great potential once minor tweaks are made.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The owner greeted us on arrival, was very friendly, and clearly explained where the toilet, shower, and drinking water were located.
We loved being able to choose our own pitch. The site offers definite value for money and serves as a great base for Cromer, Sherringham etc

Disliked The field is quite uneven in places and needs leveling out for tent campers, though we managed fine.
Not really a dislike but a suggestion, the facilities would benefit from a sink inside the toilet and shower cubicles, as well as the addition of a dedicated washing-up area.
It was rather noisy during the night due to the site being adjacent to an A-road.
No fault of the owners, but we were unfortunate to have highly inconsiderate campers nearby who did donuts in their truck in the middle of the field, tearing up the grass and then loud arguing over vapes at 4:00 AM waking others.

From the manager: Thanks for your comment it is sorry to say you are right I had a word with the guy who did the doughnuts in the field and he is not coming back and worse of all I have lost you which is a shame you are lovely people, I am putting wash basin in toilet and a pot wash place and hopefully will be a place big enough for wet clothes to hang up, and once again thank you for coming and my apologies. Many thanks Billy Hannant.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Friendly staff, site as described, small clean and mostly level.
Plenty of space and not rammed in busy.
Lovely site would stay again.

Disliked We missed the turn for the site, signed as pine tree barns. Twice.
Once we had our bearings all was good and the sat nav brings you right to it.

Toilet and shower were clean but with only one of each there was waiting.

Liked Lovely friendly people. Adequate toilet and shower. Basic. But I suppose at £25 a night wasn't too bad.

Disliked Could do with a little clear up here and there, quite a bit of stuff, farm related around making it look like a dumping ground lol.

Liked The owners are very helpful and friendly.

Disliked Shower don’t get hot.
Place isn’t what it is advertised. Looks completely different.
Hard to find.

From the manager: I’m very sorry you did not enjoy your stay but it does say we are a working family as the shower it completely new and has a set mode on it which someone moved and if you have had pressed the red reset button you would have had a lovely hot shower if you look down the other comments it’s the one we get most liked, but once again I’m sorry it’s not for you.

A great value for money, quiet stay. We will be back.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked We loved how friendly the owners were, showing us different pitches and explaining where everything we needed could be found on arrival.
We loved that the toilet and shower were brand new and kept sparkling clean every day.
We enjoyed being in a big field with only one or two transient neighbours whilst we were there.
We liked the space and how close it was to Cromer (about a mile walk into town)
Cromer itself had everything we could need in the way of shops to enjoy searching through and super markets for food supplies.
We loved the lifeguards on the beaches and how diligent they were.

Disliked We weren’t keen on the large number of rusting caravans, shipping containers and piles of scrap. There is also an enormous log pile which is not the safest thing to have around children. However, we understood this was a working farm from the beginning of booking so we were happy to accept that it wasn’t necessarily aesthetically appealing, but useful and necessary for farm life. Also my children are older so keeping them away from dangerous logpiles just required me to have a brief conversation with them, this might not be for people travelling with younger children.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your comments. We have taken your remarks on board and will be fencing off the wood from the field
