Ever been to a site which is so good you just want to keep it under wraps? Wend your stealthy way to exceedingly popular The Secret Garden Touring Park in Cambridgeshire’s Fenlands, with accommodation in a green countryside setting within a two-acre garden. You'll spy all sorts of little touches that keep guests coming back: much like the local and migrant wildlife regularly flutters to the flowers and shrubs of the garden, all meticulously developed over years by owners Neil and Lesley to draw in nearby birds, butterflies and beasts like jays, woodpeckers, stoats and hares. The site also has a couple of Gloucester Old Spot pigs. Other little touches at The Secret Garden include an on-site distillery, a communal firepit area, a shop with locally made bacon and sausages, and a ‘hobbit hill’ for the kids to hide out in. All guests have access to two modern shower and toilet blocks, and the kitchen with laundry facilities. Entertainment is available on weekends.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained, peaceful campsite with spacious, private pitches, many featuring fire pits. Visitors praise the clean facilities, friendly staff, and the on-site bar and restaurant, which often hosts entertainment. While the grounds and natural beauty are highlighted, some guests noted a lack of on-site activities for children and occasional issues with pitch drainage or cleanliness in shower areas. Mobile reception can be poor.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful family run site.

Great pitches and cleanliness of site was great.

Bingo and quiz night for the family was a hit. The potting shed bar was a lovely family atmosphere.

Site runs events at weekends which can be heard from pitch but not excessively noisy and always finished at reasonable time.

Site has a lovely little shop with local produce. Not far from local town where all major supermarkets are, local swimming pool and soft play. About 1h from beach.

It was a peaceful relaxing site, and our sons favourite part was the two piglets you can visit and give some cut up new potatos that they loved.

They were super friendly and accommodating, allowing us to pack down a bit later as heavily pregnant. Thank you for a lovely visit, will defo book again next year and bring friends.

Disliked Washing up facilities hot water wasn’t very hot when you did get it hot, however no problem for the showers.

A climbing frame/swings of some sort would be great for the kiddos near hobbit hill.

Lastly, Not that it is in the campsites control, but we were in far end of site and warehouses behind on potato farm on 2 of nights had constant whirling noise throughout the night. (Meadow field).

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely site with fairly private pitches, great shower and wash facilities. Quiet enough but also family friendly. Lovely restaurant/bar and farm shop. Only an hour to Norfolk beaches if you want to venture further afield

Disliked You have to go off site for most essentials but that was ok and there was plenty of places near by to get whatever you need and we expected having to do this having read other reviews. Wisbech town centre is one to avoid. Perhaps could do with a little more for children, but again expected this.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A wonderfull camping.. just perfect.. a lot of space to put your tent, and so nice with all the hedges and trees!

You can make fire at your spot, which for us is the ultimate thing we are always looking for.

Just one word : fantastic!

Electric grass pitch

Liked Fully serviced pitches at non hookup prices. Well maintained site. Clean facilities. Very helpful staff.

Disliked 2 out of the 4 locks in the main toilet/shower block were very tricky for children to operate. My daughter got herself stuck twice.

Electric grass pitch

Liked We had a brilliant time on this lovely campsite.
My son and I do long distance walking and my partner does the support driving, so we camp at lots of different sites. We knew immediately that this site was good and started planning a return stay. The fruit trees and the maze make for an interesting layout. Good community centre which was very welcoming.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Brilliant stay and likely to go back.

The pitches were brilliant, really large and equipped with the electric hook up and tap.

The pitch we had was surrounded by hedges and fencing in 3 sides providing some privacy but was also open at the front which was good for mingling with others.

The pub/restaurant staff were very friendly and the selection of food and drinks was very good as well as tasty.

Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor.

With a couple of mile of local amenities the site was ideally located.

The only negative was maybe not enough for kids to do on site. There was a tyre swing and the hobbit hole and maze, but I think the kids would maybe benefit from a park (although this is only the smallest of gripes as we knew what was there when booking).

Overall the place and stay was brilliant and we’d definitely look to go back.

Local attractions

Wisbech, Cambridgeshire’s biggest town, is two and a half miles away and has a good selection of museums, shops and Georgian architecture to view (Dickens fans might recognise some of the town’s buildings from the Beeb’s adaptation of David Copperfield from 1999). Octavia Hill's birthplace house and museum, celebrating the many good deeds of this Wisbech woman, is also in the town, or you could reach heady heights at the Fenland and North Norfolk Aviation Museum to see aircraft and displays from across the ages. The National Trust’s Peckover House in Wisbech has great gardens (and croquet on the lawn), as does local brewery Elwood’s, with four acres of greenery as well as a maze to get lost in. Both the RSPB reserve at Ouse Washes in Manea and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Welney in Norfolk are within 15–20 miles if your whistle has been whetted by the wildlife watching on site at The Secret Garden; take a trip around the lakes of the Fens or east to the Norfolk Broads for more species spotting from boat and shore. Within driving distance for day trips you can also reach Cambridge and Ely to the south, Norwich to the east and the scenic seaside towns of Hunstanton, Wells-next-the-Sea and Sandringham to the north, or drive a little further to reach Skegness and Great Yarmouth.
