  • Dog-friendly site by the Great Ouse on the edge of St Neots

Bring your family, bring your dogs, and pack your paddleboard, kayak, golf clubs, hiking boots and/or fishing kit… St Neots Camping and Caravanning Club Site is a welcoming site that’s well placed for all sorts of outdoor activities. The location on the banks of the River Great Ouse is an excellent start, with a boat ramp about five minutes’ walk away where you can launch canoes or paddleboards. Within a 10-minute drive there are several fishing clubs, a golf course and some lovely walks through the easygoing Cambridgeshire countryside. Dogs are welcome here, but will need to be kept on leads while on site; there are plenty of nature reserves and other open spaces nearby where they can have a good walk while you look out for wildlife. Alternatively, you may just prefer to take a stroll to one of the nearby pubs (there are a couple within a 15-minute walk). It’s not just pubs that are easy to get to – this site is on the southern edge of St Neots, with a good mix of cafés, shops and places to eat less than a mile away (walkable in 20 minutes, or take a five-minute drive). There are also a couple of supermarkets for all your picnic and barbecue supplies. This site (which is cashless) is managed by the Camping and Caravanning Club. Both members and non-members are welcome, but members benefit from a reduced rate so just make sure you select the correct membership option when booking. Facilities at this site are well kept and cover all the essentials: you’ll have access to a shop, a wifi service, a chemical disposal point and a bathroom block with toilets and showers (including wheelchair-accessible facilities).

What customers say

Excellent location near the river and town, with friendly and helpful staff. Campsite is well-organised with clean, ample facilities. Pitches are described as flat and spacious with plenty of room. Minor concerns include bright lights on the toilet block at night, shop opening hours, and poor Wi-Fi signal away from the office. Overall, highly recommended for its riverside setting and good amenities.

Local attractions

You won’t have to go far for a little bit of gentle entertainment – just take a 10-minute stroll over the river to Riverside Park, which has a play area, a skate park and a miniature railway. St Neots also has a small museum and a couple of cinemas, and it’s only a short drive to the Xtreme360 Trampoline Park (10 minutes’ drive) or Southlake Waterpark (15 minutes). Cambridge (50 minutes) is always a good bet for a day out, with all the grand colleges and Fitzwilliam Museum to visit, plus the chance to punt along the River Cam. Elsewhere nearby you could stroll around the wildlife-filled Paxton Pits Nature Reserve (15 minutes), visit the collection of aircraft at The Shuttleworth Trust (20 minutes) or meet all the creatures at Herrings Green Activity Farm & Bird of Prey Centre (half an hour). For a bit of local heritage, try Buckden Towers (15 minutes) or National Trust - Wimpole Estate (35 minutes).
