  • Peaceful riverside park just outside Littleport
  • 15 minutes' drive from Ely and 45 minutes from Cambridge
  • Fishing on the Great Ouse river from the site's riverbank
Cor – what a waterside view. And all served up with a big dollop of peace and quiet, as Riverside Caravan and Camping Park is a serene countryside site by the banks of a calm river. Being on the banks of the Great Ouse river gives guests easy access to waterside walks, including long ones all the way into Ely (two hours or so) and shorter stumbles to the nearest riverside pub (10 minutes). The wide river's also an excellent place to launch a canoe, and has plenty of fishing spots in which to try your luck with the perch, pike, carp and roach that lurk in the waters (permits are available on site for a small extra fee). You’re welcome to bring well-behaved dogs on a lead, and there’s plenty of space along the river for pups to run gleefully free. No noisy ents and activities here to distract from the peaceful vibe, but plenty of useful bits and bobs to make life easy: electric hook-ups, showers/washrooms, toilet facilities, and and a wifi connection. Nearby Littleport has all sorts of amenities too, including a train station, supermarket, butcher, baker and the all-important chippy.

Local attractions

This is a fab place if you love a bit of a walk – start out with a riverside walk direct from the site, safe in the knowledge that, however far you roam, there’s a pint of real ale and some tasty food waiting at the Swan on the River pub just a few minutes from base. Elsewhere nearby, there are more trails to follow at the WWT Welney wetland centre, 10 minutes’ drive away, or Thetford Forest Park, half an hour away. For a blast of sea air, you can reach the north Norfolk coast in 45 minutes or so. Take a trip into Ely (15 minutes’ drive) to visit the cathedral, with its 14th-century octagonal tower, and wander round the stained glass museum. There are boat trips and canoe hire to be had here too if you’d like to take to the waterways, or you could head to Cambridge (45 minutes) to try out your punting skills.
