  • Well-maintained and gated park in a peaceful rural village
  • A 10-minute drive to Ely, 35 to Newmarket and 40 to Cambridge
  • Pub on site with trampoline; dog-walking track right across the road
Ease yourself into East Anglia by booking a pitch at Slade Paddock, a well-located and secure gated site in Witcham that is also part of a working farm. Splendid for ramblers and cyclists alike, there is an on-site pub called The Humble Pig (open from Tuesday to Sunday) with a lovely terrace where guests can sit and treat themselves to a drink. During high season, live music is held in the marquee on Saturday evenings, and on Friday and Saturday evenings, The Jolly Trotter food van provides delicious homemade food on site. Entertainment, scheduled throughout June, July and August, is totally free and popular with members of the public too. This park is a prime spot for pet owners, with a dog-walking track right across the road for guests bringing their four-legged pals along. History buffs are sorted here too thanks to a bus service that stops just off the local green and whisks you to the stately sights of Cambridge within an hour. Barbecues are allowed on the spacious open grounds too if you’re keen to rustle up alfresco food. Rather order local grub at a restaurant when evening rolls around? If you fancy dining out, eateries are a 15-minute drive away in Ely, which is also home to top local attractions like Oliver Cromwell’s House. Modern facilities at this Cambridgeshire park include four wetrooms with showers, two washing-up areas, and a toilet that's accessible for people with disabilities.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely site with the added bonus of an onsite bar and food van at peak times. We booked not realising there was live entertainment on the Saturday night so that was an extra bonus. Loved that we could book a late stay for an additional fee - I wish more campsites offered this option as it's so handy if you are just going away Friday after work for the weekend. Facilities - 3 ladies toilets, 2 toilets and urinal in men's and a seperate disabled shower/toilet. There are then 4 unisex shower cubicles and inside washing up facilities. All spotlessly clean. This was our first stay and is local to us so will definitely be back. Slight hum of traffic in the background but certainly not enough to put you off coming here. They don't have any hardstanding (which would always be our preference) but our grass pitch was level so didn't need to use chocks. There seems to be a lack of sites in this area that are open all year so if they added some hardstanding pitches I'm sure they would get booked up even over the winter. Ely is lovely to visit and site handy for visits to Cambridge as well. All in all an excellent weekend.

Disliked Nothing to dislike - enjoyed our stay.

Min drive to Ely, 40 min drive to Newmarket, and about an hours drive to Hunstanton. Stayed here several times over the years and always come back at least once per year

Liked A lovely small campsite with lots of local amenities but equally has a pub and food van on site. There is a lovely meadow walk across the road that takes you for miles in the countryside. Great spot for Wicken Fen and lots of other NT and RSPB sites. The staff were really lovely and attentive. Campsite was fab and the pitches were a great size. The showers/loos and washing up facilities were in excellent condition and very clean. Thanks for a great stay.

Local attractions

Ely (15 minutes’ drive) has endless activities to keep you entertained: head to this town to roam around the cracking cathedral and stained-glass museum before leaping onto a Liberty Belle Cruises boat at Ship Lane to bob along the Great Ouse river. Fancy a flutter? Newmarket (35 minutes) is known for being the birthplace of horse racing, so it’s a must-visit spot for equestrian types. Peer at the high-tech displays in Palace House’s National Horseracing Museum, timing your visit to the town just right to catch a fixture at the renowned racecourse afterwards. If you’re hot on history, you’ll want to amble around Anglesey Abbey (35 minutes) and admire the artworks before covering some of the 98 acres of grounds during a stroll. Wander to Wimpole Hall (40 minutes) later on, stopping to fawn over the farm animals that live here, then eye up the aviation displays – an old Concorde plane included – at the Imperial War Museum Duxford (40 minutes). Many of East Anglia’s other absorbing attractions are in Cambridge (40 minutes): think a series of stunning colleges, fab art galleries like the Fitzwilliam Museum and pleasant punting on the River Cam.
