Karma farm has been farming ecologically from 1983, rearing cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens over the years as well as growing a variety of crops. Four years ago we started the small campsite in one of our peaceful meadows near the river, and have found it to be a great success. People have come from across the country to stay on the farm- and many return due to the peaceful, quiet and casual nature of the site. The neighbouring field is a stewardship nature reserve, and a perfect habitat for birds with the river lark meandering though, and a flood plain which is perfect for bird life (see below picture). The location is perfect for walking, canoeing, fishing, bird watching, cycling and a range of other activities perfect for the whole family. This year we have also created an excellent under cover area with a variety of games like boulles, pool, table tennis and badminton.

Local attractions

There is plenty to visit and do in the local area: Isleham village has a 930 year old Priory and a 500 year old church. Three good pubs, a well stocked Co-op, a Chinese take away, a hairdresser, a garage and petrol station, and a good sports field where cricket and football are often played. Either drive or hire one of our bicycles to visit the excellent local market towns. Ely Cathedral is visible from the river bank which is next to the campsite. ( seen in this photo). Only 15 minutes drive away is the home of horse racing, Newmarket. Slightly further away is the fabulous tourist destination of Cambridge one of the most popular historical cities in England- where one can enjoy a punt on the river cam, or visit the Fitzwilliam museum and one of the colleges of Cambridge university. The river Lark is 100 meters from the campsite and fishing and canoeing are possible in the slow waters of a fen land river. Last year we had several Avocets hatch some young on the wet land you see in this photograph, also Godwits and Little Ring Plovers and Barn Owls. Some local bird watchers think Isleham is as good as anywhere to see rare and interesting wildlife. Also perfect for ornithologists are the local areas of Wicken fen, the first Natural trust nature reserve in the country- and Lakenheath fen where bitterns commonly breed. Both can be visited by taking a short cycle on one of our bikes.
