Out to Grass: Aerial view of our lively field

General

  • Friendly family-run glamping and camping farm site near Malvern Hills
  • A 15-minute drive to Great Malvern and 10 minutes to Bromyard
  • Bar and communal campfire with sofas

Wander off to the Worcestershire countryside and a good choice of pitches for all sorts of travellers at Out to Grass. On this family-run farm site, a 15-minute drive from Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you can pick from stays on the quieter family field and more sociable ones at a livelier area.

Wherever you settle, you’ll enjoy fabulous countryside views by day, and can take your place by the covered communal campfire after dark. There are plenty of friendly faces on this farm, run by the same family for the past 50 years, who are always happy to to point you towards the best bits of the area: perhaps the cathedral and craft shops of Great Malvern, 15 minutes’ drive away, or the historic market town of Bromyard, 10 minutes by car.

Want to tackle the area by foot? Not to worry, there are woodland footpaths on your doorstep, and the mountainous tracks in Malvern Hills 15 minutes’ drive away. This site is also dog-friendly (and kid-friendly, too), so all the family can get a real countryside fix.

Once you’ve ticked off all the places on your map, sink into a sofa around the firepit and pick up local beers and ciders from the on-site bar, or head out to one of several pubs within a 10-minute drive. As well as a bar, the site has professional festival caterers selling real coffee, fresh smoothies and hot food. Each weekend there will be music playing, as well as a variety of workshops, activities and wellbeing offerings such as massages and morning yoga.

Please note

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

The owners' four dogs are not on leads and can roam on-site.

Please note the following dates:

14-16 July: Adults only camping weekend
11-13 August: Stargazing camping weekend with activities for young and old alike. There will also be music and a fancy dress competition.
25-28 August: The Bank Holiday Shenanigans: a lively, family-friendly camping weekend with loads of music and activities.

We were left to get on without any interference one we had paid. Is a superb venue for large parties, private bookings etc.

    Disliked:

Rude owner/manager. Who seemed to be very confused by our booking. Told us we had not order EHU till I showed my confirmation. 14 child was not allowed on main field until 1pm due to nature of a private booking. But owner had accepted our booking for the main field with a child. Reluctantly agreed to stay due to not arriving till late evening. Family Field slopes badly and no EHU available. Owner consistently blamed PITCH UP for misleading g us when we tried to raise things with her

From the manager...

We are sorry that you did not have a satisfactory experience with us. However, you did book on a weekend which was clearly labeled as an adult only weekend. We offer many wonderful family weekends at OTG with lots of activities and fun things for children but this weekend was especially marketed as an adult only party weekend. Our family field is beautifully flat but we were not able to put you on this field due to the nature of the weekend. Instead of turning you away as we should have done, we allocated you a huge pitch in an adjoining field and offered to run you out electric from the main site or refund you. I organised last min portaloos so you would have facilities and a window for the kids to briefly enter main site to shower. Many campsites consist of a field without any facilities and so you did not miss out on anything, had you read the write up properly and not booked an adult only weekend then you would have been able to access the music domes with your children but we work hard to maintain a suitable and safe space for minors

I do not believe I was rude to you at all, indeed I did my best to accommodate you after you had incorrectly booked. I went out of my way to make you as comfortable as I could despite you being very grumpy with me and my crew

If you would like to come back on a family weekend then you would be very welcome

Kind Regards

The Views from the field that we were pitched were lovely.
The fact that they have a van set up to sell some hot food was nice to have. They had a bar and some live music organised but we didn't use these.
There was a communal area under shelter with a firepit but again we didn't venture over as we had our own raised fire pit.
There were solar powered lighting around the site which made it safe and easy to make your way to the loos in the middle of the night.
There was a tent with some art and craft workshops for children.
    Swing and slide for children.
The site is quiet relaxed about well behaved dogs off leads.
There was hand sanitiser in the loos.

    Disliked:

When we booked, the description was for a 6 person pitch. When we arrived we paid our outstanding money and was told our pitch number and where it was. We found our pitch only to find that it was only fit for two persons. We spoke to reception and they said that that was what we booked and if we wanted a larger pitch we would have to pay for an additional one. Unhappy about this we had no option but to pay for this or to go home. The staff were not particularly sympathetic about this and put the blame on Pitchup.Com for not explaining better that the pitches were for the number of people inside the tent not for the size even though it clarifies on booking that it’s for upto 6person sized tent.
The site was not set up for any form of social distancing. Pitches were really packed in with guy ropes on top of each other.
We checked in on the Friday but all day Saturday my wife was very unwell with stomach problems and after a whole day with no change of health we decided to pack up and travel home early.
Only two toilet blocks for the entire site.
The toilets hardly flushed particularly well or if at all sometimes.
One of the toilet block facilities had no sinks which meant you had to travel to another toilet block to wash hands of which the water was very hot.
Only two sinks for washing dishes for the entire site.
We were looking for a nice family and dog friendly site nearby from where we live. We feel that with our recent experience we are unlikely to return to this campsite or recommend to others.

Local attractions

Bounce between the peaks of the Malvern Hills Outstanding Area of Beauty (15 minutes’ drive), where the views stretch for miles… and test out the myth of the Malvern Wells for yourself. If it truly has health-enhancing properties, you’ll be full of beans to descend upon the town of Great Malvern (15 minutes) with its crafts shops, galleries, and echo chambers of the Great Malvern Priory.

Arts people will want to top up their creative battery with a show at Malvern Theatre (15 minutes) or go where all fashionable society used to party a century ago, at Witley Court and Gardens (25 minutes), today a spectacular ruin. Under the shadow of Malvern Hills, arts and crafts seep into the Blue-Ginger art gallery too, where you can fill your car with pottery, paintings, and crafts made by locals.

Closer to the site, get your rod, line, and sinker ready for the fishing pond Evesbatch Old Lake (5 minutes) – see if you can reel in the biggest catch of the day – or set your sights on the woodland animals around the countryside bridleways leading from the village.
