  • Peaceful pet-friendly site a mile from the edge of the Malvern Hills
  • A 15-minute drive from Great Malvern and 20 minutes from Worcester
  • Fishing available in the brook with a licence; lots of local walks
Fond of peaceful walks in the hills followed by a pub meal? Visiting historic sites all day, followed by an evening by a firepit? Neither sort of thing is uncommon at Ashfield Camping, a mile from the edge of the Malvern Hills. In fact, outdoorsy types will be very pleased to find that this pet-friendly site is surrounded by local walks and 20 minutes’ walk from The Knapp And Papermill Nature Reserve’s apple orchard, meadows, woodland and woodpeckers. Those are among the options if you haven't already made a beeline for Great Malvern, 15 minutes’ drive away. The hills around Great Malvern have gorgeous views and big hikes, and the town itself has a history as a spa town, including a few historical places for sightseeing. Worcester, 20 minutes’ drive away, has more on the historical front, including a medieval cathedral that houses King John’s tomb, several museums and a 15th-century merchant’s house. Back at your nest for the night, expect a peaceful rural location and no direct neighbours alongside your pitch. Leigh brook runs alongside the site, so those of you with the correct licence are free to fish to your heart’s content. Otherwise, sit and relax by the brook or unwind with a firepit or barbecue, which are both permitted. When you want to find some all-important burger fillings and snacks for the daytime, there’s a small food shop 40 minutes' walk from the site. The shop is next to a dog-friendly pub for those lazier days where you’d rather have a meal served to you, or you just fancy a relaxed drink.

Local attractions

With so many walks in the hills a short drive away and the Teme Valley Walk along the river Teme around five minutes’ drive away too, you’ll have plenty of options for lapping up fresh air. Once you’re all walked out, you might want to take things easier with a visit to the National Trust’s Croome (half an hour's drive). The 18th-century house has been partly restored and it now includes a tearoom and an aircraft museum. When you fancy something of a challenge, Ice Quest Malvern (15 minutes) has an ice skating rink to test your balance. The venue also runs a handful of escape rooms for the sharp-witted among you. What of those characterful towns that this area is so well known for? Well, in Upton-upon-Severn (25 minutes), you could go boating from the marina or look up the music festivals that take place throughout the year. Little Malvern (20 minutes) also has a small 15th-century prior’s hall to add to your sightseeing.
