General

  • Site with a lake and woods in 160 acres of West Midlands countryside
  • A 10-minute drive from Birmingham’s NEC and 15 minutes from Coventry
  • Bar, restaurant and grill; fishing, pedalo boating and miniature golf

For hols by a lake, head to Heart of England Events Centre… with fishing and other activities to get stuck into over 160 acres of land in a stunning part of Warwickshire, this site has a splendid rural feel, yet is just 10 minutes’ drive from Birmingham’s NEC (National Exhibition Centre) and 15 minutes from the West Midlands city’s international airport.

A bar and grill restaurant is open daily from noon for eats and drinks on site – serving everything from afternoon teas to steak dishes, as well as Sunday roasts referred to by the owners as ‘legendary’ – and organises plenty of activities… so, look forward to family-friendly pursuits like pirate ship rides, pedalo boating and games of nine-hole miniature golf (extra charges apply).

You could also wander through woodland at this Warwickshire park or venture out into the surrounding area – the site is 15 minutes from Coventry and the National Motorcycle Museum, and 45 minutes from Cadbury World’s chocolate-themed tours for those of you with a sweet tooth. If you’re planning on heading further into the Birmingham city centre, it’ll only take you 25 minutes too.

Pods and huts opposite where the tents pitched - whoever was staying in those were clearly a massive group who had booked and they were up until gone 7am drinking, blaring loud music and shouting. Daughter felt intimidated at 6 years of age when going to the loo in the morning as all the men old and young were all drunk and we had to walk through them to get to toilet block.

    The woodland walks

    Disliked:

The staff were particularly unhelpful- When arriving we were asked if we’d stayed before, which we hadn’t. The field was pointed out from the reception area and we were left to find everything else out for ourselves.

The cleanliness of the site- litter everywhere and generally untidy. The outside toilets were vile

24 hours before we were set to arrive we were informed there would be a wedding during our stay. I did ask if this would effect our stay in which they said it was just a curtesy call and it wasn’t going to effect us besides a little more noise. They did fail to inform us that some of the wedding party would be camping in the same small field as us and that we would be able to see the wedding venue from our tent

The site advertises the lake for water sports etc but unless you want to go in brown water.. it’s not particularly appealing

Convenient for visiting NEC nearby. Big field for playing games.

    Disliked:

It was OK for a one-night pit stop but it has the feel of a space that someone decided that they could get a few quid by allowing people to stay in rather than actually running a campsite. An add-on to the varied activities offered at the centre. Limited wash/toilet facilities. M6 noise. Confusing system when you turn up.

    The site was beautiful

    Disliked:

Didn’t even stay! We turned up went to reception no one was there we hung around for 20 minutes eventually then we checked in. I was then informed our pitch was on a grass field opposite the conference centre which backed onto a road that quads kept racing up and down.
We then decided not to unpack yet and go for a look around because there seemed to be a lot of activity, we headed over to the grass field which had the lake located there was a fun fair being set up I then found out there was going to be a wedding there and we was not allowed near the fair so basically we couldn’t be on the field where the lake was which is where we thought we would be camping we bought a kayak with us to go on the lake. We headed towards the lake which had canoes and a pirate ship it also had life jackets strewn around we then waited there to see if we could go on the lake with our kayak…. We stood there for 10 to 15 minutes and no staff could be seen except this weird train that kept driving around. We then headed back to our pitch and sat in the car and looked over at the conference centre and decided it would be awful to stay there right next to a wedding and a fun fair going on all night, we should have been informed that this event was going on we wouldn’t have gone there the staff were not present and the 2 I met unhelpful, we then went back on pitchup and picked another campsite nearby. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Great field, lovely food in the restaurant and friendly staff.

    Disliked:

Filthy toilet and shower facilities. These had clearly not been properly cleaned for months. Covered in cobwebs and ingrained dirt. They were not cleaned during the three days we were there. A large party staying for one night trashed the toilets, paper,.dirty clothes, water and rubbish everywhere. It was still like it two days later. Cleaners arrived as we were packing away and cleaned for a total of four minutes! I have camped on some rustic sites before but never had such neglected facilities.

The restaurant on site which was brilliant. The bar area generally was very good.

    Disliked:

The white noise from the M42 was constant and effected my sleep. The venue also had a wedding on which kept most of the site wake until the early hours. I wish I had been warned prior to the visit.

Lovely camping field, not many other campers which made the space amazing for the kids!
On site pub / restaurant has loads of open space and indoor seating. Great service.
    Reception staff very welcoming.

    Disliked:

Only one shower for the whole campsite, thankfully not an issue due to numbers camping, but was a shock.
Cold water only for washing up.
The on site pub seems to own an elderly dog who roams around. It was outside and did a poo and obviously there was no one around watching it to pick it up.
Stayed during the Commonwealth Games and despite arranging to come back very late one evening, we arrived to find the whole grounds padlocked, all entrances and no emergency contacts on our paperwork. Luckily another car pulled up and they had been given a manager’s number and we could get in. We didn’t feel it was appropriate to be locked into the site, or out of it.

    Disliked:

Poor customer service from start to finish. Tried to contact via email the team to add an additional night, no one returned by call, in the end I had to contact them.

The toilet block is dirty and the waste from the wash area was not removed for 4 days, considering the warm weather this was unsatisfactory. There is only one shower, which was dirty and the drain was blocked and took a while to disappear.

One evening we were locked out of the site at 10.30 pm. Generally a very poor experience considering the cost of the pitch.

Local attractions

With the Bear Grylls Adventure at the Birmingham NEC (10 minutes’ drive), you'll soon get to brave new heights, whether it’s on the climbing walls, assault course or in the skydiving wind tunnel.

At Planet Ice Solihull (25 minutes), you could don a pair of skates instead, and further towards the city centre, you’ll need to bounce your way over the obstacles at the Inflata Nation Inflatable Theme Park Birmingham.

Those of you who are rather the history buff may want to visit the National Motorcycle Museum (15 minutes), the Coventry Transport Museum (20 minutes) or Royal Leamington Spa (40 minutes).

Royal Leamington Spa is a historic city, with the splendid Jephson Gardens for peaceful lakeside strolls, an art gallery and museum, a library housed in an old spa complex and the lonely little Chesterton Windmill (40 minutes).

If it’s more cities you’re after, Coventry (15 minutes) also has a go-karting track, air museum and nature reserve.
