Getting ready for opening time

General

  • Peaceful countryside site set amid 200 acres of paddocks and woodland
  • Five minutes' drive to Moreton-in-Marsh; 30 to Stratford-upon-Avon
  • Firepits, den-building and an eco-friendly leave-no-trace ethos

‘Leave no trace’ is the motto at Wolford Wood, and once you set eyes on this scenic park among 200 acres of lush paddocks and leafy greenery, you’re sure to have no problem wanting to do your bit to protect the local landscape…

This Site of Special Scientific Interest, home to a rare English deciduous woodland and 2,500 different species of flowers, fungi and fauna, is a blissful spot just under a mile from the meeting point of Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

While the setting on the edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is excellent for explores, staying local and wandering the woodland is also a firm favourite of guests, whether they spend their time making dens with the kids, chatting with friends next to one of the firepits (logs are available at the park) or just getting lost on pretty paths.

During ambles, bring a picnic along made up of bits and bobs from the deli in Moreton-in-Marsh; you can also stoke up the barbecue back on site (as long as it’s off the ground) if you’re craving grilled grub. Burn off the calories later at the gym and pool in the Fire Service College (a five-minute drive).

Please note that there’s no parking next to pitches here, but a car park is available. Guests are also asked to take their rubbish home with them and no single-use plastic is to be brought into the woods. If you’re doing your bit for the environment by travelling on public transport, the site can organise pickups from Moreton-in-Marsh’s train station.

Please note

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Owing to government regulations, groups of 6 or more people are not permitted.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Bookings must not be for more than 10 consecutive nights.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

Units heavier than 3000 kilograms are not allowed.

Minimum spacing of 4 metres between pitches.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Units longer than 15 metres are not allowed.

Single-use plastic cannot be brought into the woods.

Guests must take all their rubbish home with them.

The site has composting loos and outdoor showers with hot water.

Coronavirus update: safety measures have been put in place, so the site facilities are open for customers to use.

Beautiful site in field surrounded by thriving woodland. Massive area to pitch so absolutely no problem with social distancing. The amount of space we were given was wonderful. Composting loos and showers are great. V clean and efficient. We were given a friendly welcome on arrival and shown where everything was. Looking forward to going again sometime.

    Disliked:

The night is stayed at Wolford Wood there was a group of 15 or so hard drinking teenagers on the pitch across the field from me. Though the campsite owner went and talked to them at 10 or so, this did not deter the group from playing music, having drunken singalongs, and literally screaming obscenities at the tops of their lungs until 2 in the morning. I left at 6 AM to continue on my bike tour, and the lack of sleep really impacted the rest of my trip.

Great "wild" site, pitches are divided by long grass, so even when busy it wasn't crowded.

    Woods are beautiful

Compost toilets mostly functional when people don't put sawdust in the wrong hole!

    Disliked:

Only 1 shower was working (gas cylinder couldn't be turned on) and the privacy is a bit marginal!

Signage on how to use the compost toilets could be better (so they get blocked less often).

Delightful SSSI wild camping location: Not for Glampers!01/09/2020

The camp is exactly as stated; it is a large field surrounded by woodland with some very basic facilities: composting loos, woodland showers and very muddy roads. It's not for anyone expecting a modern shower/toilet block. Not for the glamper!
The host (Naomi) was extremely welcoming, helpful and joyous. Every question was met with an enthusiastic reply.

    Disliked:

The only minor inconvenience is that one cannot access the field by car to drop of equipment. It all has to be transported either by hand or using their very large wheelbarrows, for which one may have to wait as other use them. Also there is a very limited waiting area for your car when packing/unpacking, so there's a bit of a scrum to both park near the gate and to grab a wheelbarrow. Otherwise there could be a long wait.

Local attractions

The tiny towns of Moreton-in-Marsh (five minutes’ drive) in the Evenlode valley and Stow-on-the-Wold (10 minutes) are well worth a wander during your visit to the Cotswolds. If you’re in the former settlement on a Tuesday, don’t miss the market; the latter spot, meanwhile, has a selection of antique shops open most of the week and a church known for its striking stained-glass windows.

Also close by are the famed gardens of Sezincote (10 minutes), while the gorgeous grounds of Kiftsgate Court and Hidcote Manor are a touch further away (25 minutes). See more brill botanicals at the Batsford Arboretum, then learn all about birds of prey in the nearby Cotswold Falconry Centre (both 10 minutes).

If you're after historical hotspots, set off for Shakespeare’s birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon (half an hour), or visit one of the best medieval buildings in England, the enormous Warwick Castle (35 minutes).
