Wolford Wood: Cabin

General

  • Peaceful countryside site set amid 200 acres of paddocks and woodland
  • Five minutes' drive to Moreton-in-Marsh; 30 to Stratford-upon-Avon
  • Firepits, den-building and an eco-friendly leave-no-trace ethos

‘Leave no trace’ is the motto at Wolford Wood, and once you set eyes on this scenic park among 200 acres of lush paddocks and leafy greenery, you’re sure to have no problem wanting to do your bit to protect the local landscape…

This Site of Special Scientific Interest, home to a rare English deciduous woodland and 2,500 different species of flowers, fungi and fauna, is a blissful spot just under a mile from the meeting point of Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

While the setting on the edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is excellent for explores, staying local and wandering the woodland is also a firm favourite of guests, whether they spend their time making dens with the kids, chatting with friends next to one of the firepits (logs are available at the park) or just getting lost on pretty paths. The site also hosts regular events and activities for kids and grownups (open to day visitors and guests, for an extra charge) so have a chat to see what's on while you're here.

During ambles, bring a picnic along made up of bits and bobs from the deli in Moreton-in-Marsh; you can also stoke up the barbecue back on site (as long as it’s off the ground) if you’re craving grilled grub. Burn off the calories later at the gym and pool in the Fire Service College (a five-minute drive).

Please note that there’s no parking next to pitches here, but a car park is available. Guests are also asked to take their rubbish home with them where possible (although you can leave sorted bags of rubbish on site for an extra charge) and no single-use plastic is to be brought into the woods. If you’re doing your bit for the environment by travelling on public transport, the site can organise pickups from Moreton-in-Marsh’s train station.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Bookings must not be for more than 10 consecutive nights.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

No electric barbecues allowed.

Units heavier than 3000 kilograms are not allowed.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.

No gas barbecues allowed.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Units longer than 5m metres are not allowed.

There are no bins onsite: all rubbish will need to be taken home with you.

Single-use plastic cannot be brought into the woods.

Guests must take all their rubbish home with them.

The site has composting loos and outdoor showers with hot water.

Coronavirus update: safety measures have been put in place, so the site facilities are open for customers to use.

Really friendly staff - thank you!
Moreton on Marsh is a beautiful town

    Disliked:

Felt that this was very over priced for the facilities offered. We have stayed in many better equipped campsites for less than £25 per night.
Appreciate the sustainability ethos however felt this was more more tatty than charming. Also feels slightly hypocritical to boast these values when the BBC were running large generators in the woods for filming. This also made us feel like were were unable to explore the woods as we had hoped.
Toilet block was advertised but is actually still under construction.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, I'm sorry we fell short of your expectations. We do have a new shower/toilet block being built but only our compost toilets and open air hot showers are advertised. Our friendly staff would love to welcome you back to properly explore the wood if you decided to visit once our upgraded facilities are up and running.

Best wishes,
Emma

Lovely place very quiet and natural. Plenty of space too.
The owner was friendly and helpful, we were a little lost on arrival but all was sorted out quickly.

    Disliked:

I have used composting toilets in the past and don't mind them at all. The ones at Wolford had a funnel at the front for wee and a note saying always sit down to use the loo. None of which I would mind but it was always blocked which caused them to be a little unpleasant. The owner said they are building new ones so that's good. I would still stay here again!

From the manager...

Hi Alex,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we're happy that you enjoyed your stay and would like to visit again. Unfortunately some guests do not read the notes on how to use the composting toilets and put tissue in the funnels rather than behind which causes them to block. We are a couple of weeks away from our new running water shower and toilet block being completed so would love to welcome you back to try out our new and improved facilities!

What a wonderful little campsite. It was really quiet and peaceful, a nice big field, with plenty of space. I love their ethos towards sustainability with the use of compost toilets and the like.

A really unique campsite and gives a bit of a wild camping vibe, but with some good sustainable facilities. I didn't get chance to go for a walk round the woods. Hopefully next time!!

    Will definitely be visiting again.

Local attractions

The tiny towns of Moreton-in-Marsh (five minutes’ drive) in the Evenlode valley and Stow-on-the-Wold (10 minutes) are well worth a wander during your visit to the Cotswolds. Also close by are the famed gardens of Sezincote (10 minutes), while the gorgeous grounds of Kiftsgate Court and Hidcote Manor are a touch further away (25 minutes). See more brill botanicals at the Batsford Arboretum, then learn all about birds of prey in the nearby Cotswold Falconry Centre (both 10 minutes).

If you're after historical hotspots, set off for Shakespeare’s birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon (half an hour), or visit one of the best medieval buildings in England, the enormous Warwick Castle (35 minutes).
