  • Well-maintained, peaceful site behind a pub in Long Itchington
  • Warwick Castle and British Motor Museum within 25 minutes' drive
  • Traditional pub with open fire, beer garden and visiting food vans
If you’re a fan of a good pint of proper beer, you may well have come across the name Long Itchington before – this pretty Warwickshire village has no fewer than six pubs selling good-quality real ales, with three of them getting a mention in the Good Beer Guide. One of those pubs is The Green Man, a lovely traditional pub that’s got a large quiet and flat camping field behind it – just the spot for a little rural break with countryside walks by day and a survey of local hostelries by night. The surrounding area is a good one for walkers, who can head out for rambles along a disused railway line, or stroll along the banks of the Grand Union Canal. And there are plenty more options for days out too – perhaps to Warwick Castle, the British Motor Museum or Royal Leamington Spa (which can be reached on a bus from just outside the pub). Wherever you choose to roam, you’ll be coming back to a well-maintained and peaceful site where you’ll have access to pub toilets (but please note there are no showers or electric hookups). And of course you’ll be wanting a drink… which can be consumed inside by the open fire or out in the beer garden in sunnier weather. The pub doesn’t do food, but a fish and chip van (said to be ‘legendary’) stops by on Friday nights at about 8pm and you’re welcome to eat your meal at the pub. Otherwise, see what’s on offer at one of the other locals, or stop by at the small supermarket two minutes’ walk away and pick up supplies to get your barbecue going.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice and flat. Adults only and plenty of shade. There’s a handy Co-op just down the road

Disliked The only two toilets were also shower cubicles so if they were both occupied by people showering there was quite a wait to use the toilet. This is ok if the pub is open as there are toilets there. But the pub isn’t always open. Only cold water for washing up.
The chemical waste disposal is rather close to the washing up facilities and I observed a young person confusing the two when washing their frying pan!
Comparatively pricey

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Welcoming staff; clean, functional facilities, flat(ish) field, nice pub, pretty surroundings.

Disliked The camping field is next to car park and pub garden, so feels a little exposed, and noise from the pub went on well past midnight (Sat).

No food served at the pub (but there is a Co-op nearby and other food pubs in the village).

The pitches felt a little random, and I expect it'd get fraught when busy.

From the manager: Thank you for your comment, unfortunately this is a campsite on a field at the back of a very well supported village community pub. The music on Saturday did not go well past midnight as I personally turned it off about 11:45 the noise may have come from people leaving for that we apologise.

We allocate seven touring pitches five of which are marked out the other two we allocate on arrival. The tents are welcome to pitch on the other side of the field within our guidelines. It never gets fraught when busy as we always show people the facilities and where to pitch up and communicate this with them on arrival whether they listen is a different story.

We are sorry our campsite didn’t live up to your expectations.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Friendly welcoming staff, great atmosphere in pub, clearly well loved by locals. Stayed two nights, there was a wake, and an 18th birthday party. Noise all over around midnight, as per camp rules.
Wetrooms were great. It’s somewhere we’ll go back to.
