Great Haywood Canalside Camping: View of campsite

General

  • Relaxed rural campsite on the edge of Cannock Chase
  • Five minutes' walk to Great Haywood; a mile to the Shugborough Estate
  • Opposite a farm shop and café; overlooking a canal junction

There's so much to like about canals – the wildlife that lives in and around the water, the flat towpaths for cycling or walking the dog, watching the colourful narrowboats chugging by… So it'll come as no surprise that there's also much to like about Great Haywood Canalside Camping, a relaxed rural site overlooking the northern edge of Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

First of all, there's the fact that this Staffordshire spot is directly opposite a popular farm shop and café, where you can stop to stock up on supplies, call in for a coffee or pick your own berries during the summer months.

Number two on the list has got to be how close this place is to Great Haywood village centre – a five-minute stroll is all it takes to get to the nearest pub, pharmacy and convenience store, which is quite something in a spot as peaceful as this.

Dog-friendly rules and Great Haywood Canalside Camping’s dedicated dog-walking area make a third great reason to camp here, while last – but by no means least – there's the fact that you're under a mile from the gorgeous green parkland of the National-Trust run Shugborough Estate.

Fantastic natural location next to the canal, which has lovely towpath walks and a pretty river close by. No electric hook up but able to hire large fire pits which were great to circle around in the evenings.
Lots of interesting longboat traffic to watch as well as various watersports. Beautiful sunrises from the site.
Quiet site despite being close to the road and railway. The portaloos were kept very clean with loo roll available always .
    I will definitely be returning.

I disliked the lack of Elsan disposable point. It’s too far across the bridge to carry heavy items.
