Pitches tucked among the trees

  • Small, friendly Staffordshire campsite in the rural village of Hixon
  • Shugborough Hall 15 minutes’ drive and Alton Towers half an hour
  • Dog-friendly pitches with electric hook-ups; pub five minutes’ walk
Heading Staffordshire way? If you’re after somewhere small and friendly to lay your head, make a beeline for Oak Deer Country Park in the rural village of Hixon. This peaceful and well-tended site has far-reaching rural views and on clear, cloudless days you’ll be rewarded with spectacularly colourful sunsets. The pitches have facilities including drinking-water standpipes and pay-as-you-go electric hook-ups, plus a unisex toilet. Several lights come on around the site so you can walk safely after dark – however, these go off at midnight. Right next to the campsite is a field dedicated to exercising your four-legged companions; for longer walkies you can follow a public footpath along the Trent and Mersey Canal (20 minutes’ stroll) and across the surrounding farmland. Just please keep your dogs on a lead and under control around the site, and pick up any droppings. There are also lots of handy amenities close at hand; you can walk to a convenience store, a couple of takeaways and a pub in less than five minutes.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained, clean, and friendly site with a peaceful atmosphere and pleasant views. Its excellent location offers immediate access to a well-stocked Co-op and a popular pub within a few minutes' walk, with takeaways also nearby. Staff are consistently praised for their helpfulness and accommodating nature. While some reviews note issues with pitch levelling during wet weather and a lack of showers and hand basins in the toilet, management has clarified these points. Issues with electricity meters and payment methods have also been mentioned.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked It was beautifully kept and was like staying on someone’s front lawn. Very peaceful with a lovely dog walk area cut into longer grass which was great. The wardens were super friendly and gave lots of local info. There is even a co-op shop literally right next door to the entrance which is open till 22:00 hrs too. If I was in the area again I would be happy to use again.

Disliked Maybe a little expensive for a site without showers, toilets etc.
Not really something that the wardens can do anything about but there must be a kennels somewhere nearby that you can hear barking if outside.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Had a fantastic couple of days here. James and Chris met us in arrival and gave us a quick run down on what was what then left us to set up and settle in. Both guys were really friendly and very helpful. The site is very clean, tidy and well kept. There is a co-op at the top of the drive, a pub, chinese and chippy all within easy walking distance. We will definitely be returning

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Very friendly gents James and Chris running the place. It was our first time taking our little touring caravan out and we were a bit apprehensive about how things would go down, but they helped us and advised and made sure we were looked after. The place was quiet, in a great location and had in close proximity the Co-op, a pub and two takeaway places. And a Morrisons down the road. The pitches were nice, with electricity and water and plenty of space. Would definitely stay there again.

Disliked Nothing, it was just what we wanted.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked We arrived in Hixon but didn’t notice entrance, quick phone call and we had turned around and were greeted by a guy in the road to guide us in.
The grass was waterlogged but we were happy to set up on the hard standing.

Site was peaceful and quiet with nice views across the valley. A CoOp convenience store at the top of the drive which was well stocked and we didn’t have to run out of supplies.

Definitely a nice spot with friendly staff and owners

Disliked The weather on our visit. But at least we had hard standing and didn’t get stuck.
