  • Small, friendly Staffordshire campsite in the rural village of Hixon
  • Shugborough Hall 15 minutes’ drive and Alton Towers half an hour
  • Dog-friendly pitches with electric hook-ups; pub five minutes’ walk
Heading Staffordshire way? If you’re after somewhere small and friendly to lay your head, make a beeline for Oak Deer Country Park in the rural village of Hixon. This peaceful and well-tended site has far-reaching rural views and on clear, cloudless days you’ll be rewarded with spectacularly colourful sunsets. The pitches have facilities including drinking-water standpipes and pay-as-you-go electric hook-ups, plus a unisex toilet. Several lights come on around the site so you can walk safely after dark – however, these go off at midnight. Right next to the campsite is a field dedicated to exercising your four-legged companions; for longer walkies you can follow a public footpath along the Trent and Mersey Canal (20 minutes’ stroll) and across the surrounding farmland. Just please keep your dogs on a lead and under control around the site, and pick up any droppings. There are also lots of handy amenities close at hand; you can walk to a convenience store, a couple of takeaways and a pub in less than five minutes.

What customers say

This is a friendly and well-maintained site praised for its peace and quiet. Its excellent location offers easy access to a well-stocked Co-op, a pub, and takeaways, all within walking distance. While basic, the site is clean, and guests particularly highlight the helpfulness and welcoming nature of the staff, especially James. Some guests noted the absence of shower facilities and occasional issues with electricity metering or pitch levelling. The site manager has addressed concerns regarding children on an adults-only site and safety, stating measures in place.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Peace and quiet

Disliked Didn’t feel safe as a single camper. No explanation on how I could leave if I needed to, not just at night, other than ask the warden in his caravan on site, would have preferred a code to get out if necessary.

From the manager: I'm totally shocked anyone could say they didn't feel safe this park is nestled in a quiet village setting fabulous location we have never had a problem and neither has anyone else who's stayed on the park also you don't need a code to leave the park because the gate is opened by a security sensor when you get close this also makes the park safer,

Liked Well maintained site

Disliked Booked 4 Nights adults only site as schools were breaking up for the summer.
The first evening we discovered the owner was allowing children on site when I asked the site warden about it he said he said there was nothing he could do.
We packed up and left next morning
No refund was given

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked We really enjoyed our stay here but more due to an excellent pub and restaurant being a short walk from the campsite. There is also a supermarket just next door which is incredibly well stocked. The campsite itself is quite basic but very well cared for and we watched a beautiful sunset over the nearby fields. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the place was very clean. As disclosed there are no showers / toilets on site though we did have electric hook up.

Disliked Quite pricey for a site with no facilities.

Liked Wardens on site was really helpful and welcoming. Beautiful site, very well managed and cared for a credit to the warden who makes this site his passion. Well done. Handy chip shop, Chinese, convenient stores and 2 walkable pubs. Walks off site, great quiet location with lovely country scenery.

Disliked Nothing one of the best sites we have stayed.
