Four Oaks Farm
Family-sized pitch
Set over 32 acres of grassland
Tents of all shapes and sizes are welcome

  • Back-to-basics Staffordshire farm site in 32 acres of countryside
  • Located in Cannock Chase; a five-minute drive from Rugeley and the A51
  • Pop-up shop selling hot drinks, local produce and camping equipment
For days biking through the forests of Cannock Chase, make tracks for this cycle-friendly farm site in Staffordshire. Stays are wonderfully laidback affairs at Four Oaks Farm – with 32 acres to pitch up in, there's plenty of space for everyone to chill out, cook and wander as they please. Head here for easy access to some of Staffordshire's top cycle paths (or walks with a well-behaved dog hot on your heels, if you've brought one). The Chase Mountain Bike trail is adjacent to the site, and there's a visitor centre on hand over the road if you need help getting to grips with your surrounds. There's also a Gruffalo-themed nature trail for the tiddlers to totter along here.  Back at base, the views are mighty fine and the basics are all covered: guests can expect spacious pitches, drinking water and portable toilets/showers, along with a pop-up shop (in high season only). Barbecues are welcome on site as long as they're raised off the ground, but please don't bring any firepits along. Need to stock up? Rugeley (five minutes' drive) has plenty of food shops, as well as pubs and takeaway options. If you're planning to leave the car at home for this one, this is also where you'll find the nearest station (about a 20-minute bike ride away).

What customers say

This campsite is highly praised for its superb location directly opposite Cannock Chase, offering beautiful views and excellent access to walking and mountain biking trails. Visitors consistently highlight the exceptional friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, the cleanliness of the facilities, and the ample space provided on-site. The well-stocked shop and on-site food vendors, including a popular pizza van, are also frequently mentioned as positive aspects. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few minor points included occasional issues with toilet maintenance during busy periods and some overpriced items in the shop.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The space between campers was great. Friendly staff, helpful when my partner wanted to change something he had purchased. Was shown around on arrival. Toilets were fine, didn’t use the showers to comment.

Disliked Price was higher end

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We stayed at this site last year too, so knew what to expect, for a pop up camp site it's good.

We really like this site, it's simple but it's decent, It's got 2 nice open fields to camp in, lots of space to choose from, and lots of area for the children to run around and play.

The little pop up shop is well stocked and reasonably priced.

The staff were helpful and polite when I checked in and helped with any questions I had.

The showers and toilets are good and generally kept well cleaned and fresh.

Disliked Some of the toilet seats were a little wobbly so they'd slide about when you sat down.
And the toilet doors, please get some WD40 on them 😂 they are a little squeaky 🙈

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The owners are really friendly, it appears to be a family run site and they go out of their way to make sure you’ve got what you need. There’s free choice of where you go and the site is massive so you’re not on top of each other. The toilets were kept clean, several times a day and although facilities are basic, they’re adequate for what you need. It’s quiet at night and my young daughter loved it for her first experience of camping. Great if you want to go mountain biking over the chase and only a mile or so from shops if you need them. For the money, you can’t fault it.

Disliked Nothing really. If I had to really, really gripe I’d say the toilets need better sinks as it was hard to wash your hands properly but that’s it. I really like the place.

Local attractions

Fancying swinging through the trees? Go Ape is a couple of minutes' walk from site at Birches Valley Forest – head here if you fancy taking on this 1,500-metre-long high ropes course. Segway hire is also available next door for speedy self-powered laps of the woodland. The National Trust's Shugborough Estate (10 minutes' drive) is also close by: this Georgian manor house has gorgeous grounds and is home to a working farm where the kids can get up close and personal with friendly livestock. For more historic architecture, head down the road to Stafford Castle (20 minutes), where there's an interactive heritage trail and museum to get stuck into.  Other family-friendly options in the area include the National Forest Adventure Farm (20 minutes) with its bouncy soft play zone and go-karting track. Want to ramp up the adrenaline a little more? Jaunts to classic theme parks like Drayton Manor (25 minutes) and Alton Towers (half an hour) can be sorted in a doddle. For some slower times after all that action, Dovedale (45 minutes) is a prime spot for peaceful Peak District wanders.
