Parking up in the south of the Peak District National Park is always a good idea for a break if you’re into your walks and other outdoor activities. And it gets even better if you book a pitch at Blackshaw Moor Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, in a handy spot directly off the A53 (no tricky navigating along narrow lanes here…). This site is managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, and open to both members and non-members, with discounted rates available for members. The price displayed here is the member rate, so non-members will need to pay the £15/night extra or sign up for membership. At £69 for the year, membership is certainly worth considering if you're likely to spend more than four nights at a Club site in that time – it brings discounts at more than 140 UK Club sites and a raft of other perks, like access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance, discounts on days out and savings on top brands. Being a Club site, it’s designed with the needs of tourers in mind – starting with the pitches, which are on well-kept hardstandings spread out across the park for a real sense of peace and space. Each one has plenty of room for an awning, a barbecue and whatever else makes you feel at home, and you’ll have the use of facilities including a launderette, a motorhome service point and bathrooms with accessible facilities. As well as those essential amenities, the park also has a play area for the kids and a dog park for your four-legged friends. Leek (five minutes’ drive) is handily close by for shops, supermarkets and places to eat.

  • Units longer than 9 metres are not allowed.
  • If you choose the membership option, your membership details will be issued within five working days once the booking is fully paid. A 14-day cooling-off period from the booking date allows for cancellation of the membership and a refund of any fees paid.

Liked Clean campsite, spacious pitches

Disliked Not much there, shop overpriced, charged extra for not being a member when it is not clearly stated when booking on pitch up. Man in front of me at reception could not find his membership but was not charged extra, i challenged this when charged and was told that 'we know he is a member'

Disliked Electric hook up was a bit low on output
We should of had a fully services pitch but was told on the gate to just park up between any white line pitch instead of the red pitched and it was too late once we realised and wasn’t offered any refund

Liked Great spot for visiting lots of places, we did the Roaches and ludschurch loop. The toilet and shower block were immaculate and the showers were spot on with plenty of room and lots of hooks for belongings. Nice little dog walk round the outskirts of the site. The pitch we ended up on was a good size. Lovely pub down the road which is a short walk

Disliked Driving round the site to look for an empty pitch after a long drive in the heat wasn’t ideal. It was pretty full by the time we got there. The first pitch wasn’t level and the steadies wouldn’t touch the floor( we had to look for another pitch and move the caravan)

Liked The whole site was clean, organised and pitches spaced out.
Staff where polite and facilities very clean.

Disliked The WiFi was poor, even after paying for the upgrade.

Outdoor adventures in your plans? You might like to start at The Roaches (five minutes’ drive), for a circular walk with wonderful views. Hen Cloud (five minutes), Chrome Hill (15 minutes) and Dovedale (half an hour) are other popular spots. Closer to home, Tittesworth Reservoir (five minutes) is a lovely place for a stroll, and also has an adventure playground and a watersports centre – you can walk there in half an hour or so if you don’t fancy driving. Blake Mere Mermaid Pool (five minutes) and Rudyard Lake (15 minutes) are other good local options for a watery view. For a bit of local heritage, take a wander around the lovely spa town of Buxton (15 minutes), head to Bakewell (half an hour) to sample one of its famed puddings or admire the delicate displays at World of Wedgwood (40 minutes). Kids not really into surveying ceramics? Maybe the animal encounters of Peak Wildlife Park (15 minutes) or the rollercoasters of Alton Towers (20 minutes) would be more their style.
