  • Peaceful one-acre pitching field behind a Shropshire village pub
  • Half an hour's drive to Ironbridge; 40 minutes to Shropshire Hills
  • Real ales, beer garden and friendly community events
If ‘pub within easy walking distance’ is on your wishlist for somewhere to stay in Shropshire, you’ll be pleased with the offerings at The Three Horseshoes: pitch up here and you’ll be staying in the field right behind the pub in the village of Sambrook. This is a classic country pub, serving up real ales and plenty of other drinks in a friendly environment that also welcomes dogs. There’s a beer garden for alfresco drinks on sunnier days, and a programme of community events that might include quizzes, barbecues and live music – keep an eye out for what’s on while you’re here. (Please note the pub no longer serves food.) Things are kept pretty simple in the camping area, but guests will have access to drinking water and wifi, and there’s access to pub toilets throughout the day and night so you won’t be caught short. This spot between Newport and Market Drayton (and about 10 minutes’ drive from each) is a handy one for getting out and about: it’s only a short way off the A41 and within easy reach of all sorts of places for days out. That might be city days in Birmingham and Chester, soaking up the history in Ironbridge, heading out to hike the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty…

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The pub next to the campsite had a great atmosphere and the two blokes running were proper sound and helpful when I turned up looking like a drowned rat. Would highly recommend.

Disliked: The toilets were portaloes

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Spacious field behind a lovely traditional pub. I was made to feel very welcome by owners and locals and it was exactly what I needed for staying in the van over the weekend. The owners were very accommodating when I needed an extra night at very short notice. The weather was terrible for August but it was brilliant to be able to escape the weather in the pub with a good range of traditional ales, friendly atmosphere and great music until late.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely quiet campsite with an amazing and very welcoming pub. We asked for a late checking in and this was accommodated. We ended up still running late and it wasn't a problem for them. Toilets in the pub were clean and we had 24hr access to them. The owner and staff were lovely and helpful. Easy access to the 2 nearest towns which the locals in the pub helped us with.

Disliked: There unfortunately wasn't any showers and the washing up facilities were very basic. There were portaloo's in the camping field but these weren't the best kept. The other added bonus would be if there was a bin in the camping field.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The site personnel were really friendly and helpful. The field was great and the whole place had a relaxed feel to it. We liked the honesty box with veg and eggs. Location was great. Good pitch sizes.

Disliked: The washing up area was very scruffy and was overlooking the male toilet window (and yes, you could see in!). The pub no longer served food which was understandable but not mentioned when booking. Showers have been great, bot we did know about this in advance. The grey and chemical waste points were very basic with no tap or hose for the latter.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Very friendly and helpful owners. Easy check in and nice flat grassy field for easy pitching. Nice sized pitches with plenty of space. Great for back to basics short stays. Clean toilets, dirking water and washing up facilities. Great beer in the pub!

Disliked: A shame rather than a dislike - the pub didn't serve food, but the owners were very helpful recommending where to go nearby.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: What a lovely little camp site, real rustic charm and back to basics. Setting in stunning countryside. Owners super helpful and fantastic beers on tap at the pub (owners run the camp), try the Butty Bach ale.

Disliked: Pub was not doing food, but took their advice and had a lovely meal at the Sutherland Arms, some 4 mile drive away done wonderful country lanes.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Simple quiet site behind a friendly pub. Close to lovely countryside. Owners are welcoming and helpful. Gave a good recommendation for a nearby pub, in Tibberton, which served lovey food.

Disliked: Shame the pub doesn't serve food. Lack of showers mean its only practical for a night or two.
