  • Glamping at a family-run farm at the foot of the Wrekin Hill
  • A 15-minute drive from Ironbridge and half an hour from Shrewsbury
  • Spacious units with kitchen, shower room, barbecue and stunning views
Set off for the Shropshire countryside and take in steam railways, heritage sites and all the sweet scenery around these parts from Morrells Wood Farm. This glamping site is on a family-run working beef farm in the countryside, half an hour’s drive from Shrewsbury. The bespoke units here are scattered in secluded spots around the farm, so you’ll have plenty of privacy and peace in which to sit back and soak up the views out over the Wrekin and the Shropshire Hills. Each one has an alfresco seating/dining area with a barbecue, and secure off-road parking. All the accommodation here is spacious and well-insulated for cosy stays at any time of year, and each unit is kitted out with a comfy iron-framed double bed, a fully-equipped kitchen and its own individual shower room. The free wifi that’s provided is surprisingly good for such a remote location, say the owners (but they also say you might not want to use it much, given all the lovely things to look at out in the open…) As this site is at the foot of the Wrekin Hill, it likely won’t surprise you at all to hear that this is a fine place for walks that take in some of the county’s most spectacular scenery. Riverside rambles along the Severn Way are about a mile away, and it’s also easy to pop out for wanders around Ironbridge (15 minutes’ drive) or Ludlow (45 minutes). The Welsh border is about half an hour away too, if you fancy strolls in a second nation.

Local attractions

Head off to a historical place… there are lots of historical sites around here, from the remains of the Wroxeter Roman City (10 minutes' drive) to Ironbridge (15 minutes), a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 10 museums including the Blists Hill Victorian Town (20 minutes), which recreates life in this period with a 19th-century sweet shop, fairground and demonstrations. You could take a ride on the Telford Steam Railway (15 minutes)… check out the remains of the medieval Wenlock Priory (15 minutes)… or take your time looking around the deer park and walled garden on the National Trust’s Attingham Park estate (15 minutes). For a walk where geology fans will find a lot to gaze at, the Stiperstones (40 minutes) is a good place to go. Meanwhile, foodies will find markets and independent shops in Ludlow (45 minutes). You could mix things up for the kids with animal feeding and animal experience days at Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom (half an hour) but for more buzzy towns, in Shrewsbury (half an hour), boat trips or a visit to the castle and Quarry Park are a good way to round off your holiday.
