  • Static narrowboat on its own mill pond, five miles from Ludlow
  • Fully-equipped kitchen, wetroom and private decking and picnic areas
  • Exclusive use of outdoor spa with hot tub, sauna and fluffy towels
All – delightedly – aboard. Drift along to The Sitting Duck on a small Shropshire farm for a narrowboat glamping trip suitable for sailors and wannabes of all levels: the Duck is a static – and highly handsome – boat permanently moored on its own mill pond five miles from Ludlow. The narrowboat sleeps two adults and two kids (no toddlers, please) and is fully kitted out to swishly nautical standards, to include a fully-equipped kitchen with crockery, utensils, an oven and a fridge; electric power and plenty of sockets; a wetroom with lushly hot shower and toiletries and towels included, and a cosy lounge area with a table, chairs, sofa bed, books and games. Bed down in the double berth in the narrowboat bow, which has a TV, a double bed with hand-carved headboard made from the neighbouring farm; just outside is a small terrace to sit out on under the stars. Or you could have a lengthy supper out on deck or in the private picnic area: fresh eggs as well as a luxury hamper with drinks and local produce are all included in the price. (More fresh produce can be sourced from the farm.) And the jewel in this narrowboat crown? The boat comes with its own waterside spa, which has a modern sauna and an alfresco hot tub illuminated at night for wallows in all hours. Both are handcrafted in cedar by the resident farmer and include a pile of fluffy soft towels.

Local attractions

The Sitting Duck is just outside the village of Greete, five miles from the famed Shropshire market town and September food and drink festival of Ludlow. A market is still held in the main square several times a week; plenty of shops and boutiques are around for other bits and pieces, and this foodie town has cafés and restaurants aplenty to suit all tastes (the Sitting Duck team particularly recommends the Millennium Green café by the Teme with its spectacular views of Wycliff and its castle). The Ludlow Food Centre is stuffed with fresh local produce to bag supplies for your evenings back at the boat. Around town, take time for Ludlow Castle, on a promontory overlooking the river; Ludlow Museum, at the Buttercross, and the Ludlow Brewing Company, for ale and food. Outside town, Ludlow Racecourse is 15 minutes' drive from your narrowboat base, and the fab Acton Scott Historic Working Farm half an hour away at Church Stretton.
