Fun camping pod for those with a quirky camping need!

  • Off-grid, peaceful Shropshire woodland site within a Forest School
  • A 20-minute drive to Telford and 30 minutes away from Shrewsbury
  • Well-equipped kitchen, eco-friendly amenities, firepits and barbecues
Fancy swapping the sound of your smartphone pinging for the noise of birdsong? Then book in a trip at Wrekin Forest Events Camping, an off-grid site with a back to basics feel in lush Shropshire surrounds. This peaceful place also comes with handy essentials to help amp up a weekend in the woods, from fairy lights and festoon lamps to a barbecue, firepits and a well-equipped kitchen (although please note there's no fridge or freezer due to the off-grid nature of the site). While a stay at this park’s all about getting lost in the forest (bring your pup along to help you sniff your way back...) or letting the kids loose on the large playing field (with swings, sandpit, football net, badminton and table tennis), ace activities and attractions are all around too. It’s a 20-minute drive to Telford from here for the landmark Iron Bridge as well as a kids’ park with heritage trails and an aerial rope course. If educational times for the small fry are what you’re after, it's handy to note that the site is set in a Forest School with activities like archery, air rifle shooting, open-fire cooking and den building available, and outdoorsy courses available for primary school pupils. It's 25 minutes from the Museum of the Gorge as well, one of 10 around town giving a glimpse at the history of the Industrial Revolution in this area where it all began. (If even more poking into the past appeals, Blists Hill Victorian Town is around the same distance with its recreated 19th-century village and staff dressed up in fancy period clothes… and should be a hit with those primary-aged pupils too.) To nosey in nature instead, The Wrekin is a 25-minute drive from the park: putter to the hillfort’s 1,335-foot top and check out views over 17 of England’s counties or have picnics at the peak. And if you’d prefer to just hang out at your new home from home, plenty of space is available for outdoor games like croquet, swing ball and Jenga (all available to hire from the owners).

Squirrel's Hideaway non-electric grass and earth tent pitch (adults only, secluded)

Liked The pitch (squirrel's hideaway) did indeed feel secluded and peaceful. It was lovely to be on a campsite created by people who clearly love camping, and know what makes a good camping experience (e.g. a table, bbq, fire pit and box of logs come with the pitch; having enough space to yourself, whilst feeling in connection with others; good washing up area, and some spare pots in case you need them; clean loos). As a bonus, the squirrel's hideaway did indeed come with plenty of squirrels! :-)

Badgers Hollow shepherd's hut

Liked So much was provided eg camping chairs, cutlery, glasses, saucepans, lanterns, pumps and a picnic table. We don't have a car so can't take much with us but were able to have a gorgeous holiday in the countryside easily at Wrekin because so much is provided.
It was great for kids because of the play area and swings etc dotted around and access to the incredible forest school.
Facilities were clean which was great.
The owners floated around and were happy to help with anything.
The site was beautiful and relaxing.
The shepherds hut was bigger and warmer than expected and was great value for money.

Disliked The single fold-out bed in our hut was a bit thin and there was no duvet but we were fine.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to write a lovely review. We will look into replacing the fold out bed, I guess over time they become a little squished. Duvet wise, we do say we don't provide the additional bedding for fold out beds, but please just ask next time, we have a cupboard full of every spare you can think of and could happily given you a duvet or sleeping bag. We are glad that overall you had a fab time. Please do visit again. Judie & Anthony

Foxes Den camping pod (no pets)

Liked Great facilities, very friendly and the fox den was cozy. Really as a homely vibe even with everything outdoors and separated from your sleeping space

Disliked If you're on a motorbike the driveway is loose gravel, there is little to no phone signal there (great if you want to get away from the world for a weekend)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi, thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are glad you liked foxes den, it is quirky! Sorry the drive way was awkward for a motorbike, I can see it might be. In reality that probably is unlikely to ever change, I am guessing there is little prospect of the phone signal improving either. Thank you and glad that overall eveerything was good. Squirrel's Hideaway non-electric grass and earth tent pitch (adults only, secluded)

Liked Loved Everything about our stay. Clean, quiet, peaceful and beautiful forest.
The loos were spotless and had light switches and wall paper. The shower was gas heated with small changing area with shelving.

Everything was thought out thouroughly for a relaxing stay. The play areas had football goals, a ping pong table and swings as well as a tree house with slide. Forest school ( a mini wood hut village of all things woodland craft and play) was run by the dedicated campsite staff, sharing their passion for the woodland with all. Painting, woodturning, archery, rifle shooting, high ropes, low ropes...and of course water and cups provided for the children and hot dogs -and tea and coffee for the adults!

The site would be blissful for booking entirely for a summer gathering, birthday, wedding or just to be with family and friends- they even had glamping wooden caravans, canvas bell tent and a small static caravan seperately tucked into the woods if tent life didnt appeal!

We can't wait to return. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked An absolutely fabulous site with excellent facilities. Large pitches, great areas for children to play, very well equipped, fire pits and barbecues provided, beautiful site and an amazing forest school, clean toilets, shower and washing up facilities.

Judie's communication was excellent in advance of our visit and when we experienced a couple of issues with the tent was very helpful and quick to help.

The morning chorus was outstanding.

We'll definitely be back!

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review our venue. It was a pleasure having you and your son to stay. We are pleased that you had a good stay. We are so sorry your tent misbehaved in the rain. We will be replacing it immediately! Thank you for being so gracious in the face of an unwanted puddle. We hope that we will see you again soon. Judie & Anthony

Local attractions

In Shropshire with the intent of shuffling about in the lush landscape? Drive to Ironbridge first off (half an hour away) and steel yourself for a 139-mile stroll on the Shropshire Way. Alternatively, if that sounds a little lengthy for your liking, Much Wenlock is around the same distance and leads to the 19-mile limestone ridge of Wenlock Edge (and fun fact: it was formerly a tropical coral reef aeons ago when this area was under the sea). If this gets you craving some water-based whiling, take a stroll over to a Much Wenlock activity centre for canoeing, kayaking and rafting on the River Severn, plus quad biking and clay pigeon shooting on land. Boldings Pools (30 minutes) meanwhile is your go-to if angling for carp, bream and roach sounds like a grand day out...
