  • Small and friendly meadow site near the Shropshire Hills
  • Within 10 minutes' walk of Much Wenlock
  • Campfires allowed: logs and kindling available on site
Good times for all ages can be anticipated at Wenlock Edge Caravan and Camping near Wenlock Edge in Shropshire: if you want a peaceful and relaxed setting with stacks of space for the kids to let off steam, this family-friendly place will tick all your holiday boxes. The big draw here is the friendly vibe from amiable owners and seasoned campers Claire and Carol, who'll be seen on site keeping everything shipshape (and sorting out logs and kindling for your evening campfire). The modern facilities extend to showers and toilets with underfloor heating, hair dryers and heaters, as well as a laundry room. Other topping factors are the big and safe natural area for kids to run around in away from the main site, and the closeness of Withies to activities of all sorts, including hikes around the Shropshire Hills, industrious visits to Ironbridge and its museums, and mooching around Shrewsbury, under half an hour's drive away. Withies is set in six acres of grassy meadow on Wenlock Edge near the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's a 10-minute walk to the historic market town of Much Wenlock and its visitor centre, traditional shops and a satisfying selection of pubs and restaurants.

What customers say

This is a clean, secure, and well-maintained site with excellent facilities, particularly the heated toilet and shower blocks. It offers stunning views and is conveniently located a short walk from Much Wenlock. Many guests praise the friendly and helpful owners and the peaceful atmosphere. Some pitches are on a slope, requiring levelling ramps. While most found the facilities superb, a few mentioned issues with water pressure or blockages. A lack of Wi-Fi was noted by some.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely site with great bonus extras, the small kitchen area provided a microwave, kettle, tea, coffee and the utility room had a washer and dryer. Very chatty and friendly man assisting as well as offering local info. It felt very safe allowing children Independence to play.

Disliked Unfortunately the site is on a very sloping hill, in a tent there was no chance for a sleep without falling out of bed! Caravans must bring stabilising blocks.
The kids area needed a mow as very overgrown, broken toys scattered and broken swing rope. Unfortunately it snapped with a child on it. New rope was requested but not installed i believe due to owner not being there.
Cleaning equipment should also be provided withing the ladies/gents/washing up area, this could help people clean up after themselves. And possibly a more thorough clean daily would help.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked It being a small site with views.

Mown pitches.

Closeness to much wenlock.

Laundry room free use.

Disliked Lack of squeegee mops in both shower rooms and laundry room.
Tall trees on tight bend require trim back to prevent scratches on caravans.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked An excellent and affordable getaway. Though the field is slightly inclined, we were able to find suitably flat areas for our tents. The campsite manager was friendly and eager for our stay to be great. Small additions like a kettle and fridge made this trip extra special.
The view of the stars at night was really special and the tranquility of the evening in nature is exactly what you want from a camping holiday.
The walk to much wenlock is short and well connected to the campsite. Much wenlock had some great pubs and shops but lacked a reasonably price convenience store.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely site well kept, super friendly site manager, we had a sheltered side pitch ideal for my dog

Foot path from site linking to Shropshire way and down into the town

Lovely new facilities block

Disliked Showers quickly hit ditched , could do with something for campers to push the water to the drain

The showers didn’t hold temperature, freezing then hot perhaps not on the best setting , maybe add some instructions for campers on how best to set them

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Location was great, facilities were good. Staff were attentive and present. Liked the relaxed atmosphere and that dogs were welcome

Disliked A bit of a slope on the pitch and the showers were a bit hot and cold at busy times. But that is true almost everywhere!

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Great location with good views all around.
Easy to access walks from Wenlock Edge from the site although would be helpful to have some information available at the site.
Only 20 mins walk into Much Wenlock town which is lovely. The Priory is well worth a visit.
Grant who looks after the site was very helpful.

Disliked The facilities are new & clean but one of the 2 showers in the ladies went from freezing to scaldng & leaked.
Paying extra for a dog to stay I would expect a couple of dog waste bins on the site but there were none. Also nowhere to tether dogs at the facilities.

Liked We had a fab time!!

The campsite was well look after, the amenities were accessible and clean. We picked the site for the view and it did not disappoint. Grant was very friendly and helpful, chopping up wood for us and even helping jump start our car at the end of our stay - really went above and beyond.

We'll definitely be back!!

Local attractions

Wenlock Edge Caravan and Camping is in prime position for Shropshire's country, town and historic attractions, from its setting near the Shropshire Hills and within walking distance of town. Much Wenlock is between Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth, with the Ironbridge Gorge and the town of Telford to the north-east. Within a few minutes' walk is the limestone escarpment of Wenlock Edge, a Site of Special Scientific Interest running for over 19 miles between Craven Arms and Much Wenlock. It includes the marked trail of the Shropshire Way, the bridle path of the Jack Mytton Way, and eccentric structures like the tower Flounder's Folly, which many walks around the area pass. The Ironbridge Gorge Museums should entice even the most reluctant of small Shropshire holidaymakers: this UNESCO World Heritage Site has 10 museums telling the tale of Britain's Industrial Revolution, including the Blists Hill Victorian Town and Enginuity, an interactive design and technology centre with shows and workshops. Also make time for a trip on the spectacular Severn Valley Railway, on its 16-mile route through the Severn valley and along the River Severn for much of the way. The track runs from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster; alight nearby at Ironbridge Level Crossing, or nine miles from Withie at Bridgnorth. County capital Shrewsbury is 13 miles away, and the market town of Ludlow within 23.
