General

  • Idyllic location for exploring the natural beauty of south Shropshire

Walcot Hall Caravan Park is the ultimate venue for camping in Shropshire. Upon arrival in south Shropshire, the campsite is situated to the rear of the Powis Arms public house, at the entrance of the drive to the Hall.

Facilities include heated amenity block with showers, toilets, washing machine, dryer and chemical disposal point.

The on-site pub is very friendly and serves restaurant and bar meals and the village shop is a short walking distance. There are also food shops and a petrol station in nearby Bishop’s Castle.

Well behaved dogs are allowed at the campsite.

The toilet block was not as described in people's reviews - must of been worked on. The cattle grid didn't make as much noise neither as mentioned. It was very quiet, close to enough places yet far enough away for a peaceful and quiet few days away.

    Disliked:

I didn't like that you never saw anyone unless you went up to the hall, the site layout for non hook up was a little cramped and I didn't like that staff had caravans and used the showers intended for paying campers. And I didn't like that my neighbour pitched up less than 4 foot from me - they couldn't put out their guide ropes! And allowed their children to run around the whole of my tent and bang on the sides - which caused my dog to fly up his own backside - it carried on even after I asked them not to - I left by 10am instead of 2pm!

Unable to comment as my booking was cancelled

    Disliked:

I can't comment on the camp site only on their booking system. I was due to stay for 2 nights in late July. Pitch was booked approx 2 months in advance. Approx 2 weeks after the booking I was contacted and informed that the site was double booked and my booking had been cancelled. Disappointing but fair enough, it gave me enough time to book an alternative. My deposit was also refunded without any problems. What I really found surprising and irritating was the phone call I received from the campsite on the morning I was due to arrive, advising me of the double booking and the cancellation of my booking. Apparently the person calling me had been sent an email requesting her to contact me to advise of the cancellation!! Sorry but that is very poor administration: not knowing that I was aware of the cancellation, and then contacting me on the day of arrival to advise there was no pitch for me. I feel a rating of 5 is fair under the circumstances.

A quiet campsite with lovely views. The kids had a lovely time especially with the rope swing at the bottom end of the site. The site was easy to find and easy to access! It is a very straight forward drive to Bishops Castle where there are some lovely places to eat and generally a beautiful place to visit.

    Disliked:

The shower block was fine, however there are 11 pitches on the site with only two ladies toilets (one of which was blocked the whole weekend!). The boys had the same facilities. The showers ran hot and the water pressure was good. The only really niggle was the cattle grid at the end of the drive (right next to the camp site) is damaged and every time someone drove over it crashed loudly. That in itself is not a problem but with Walcot Hall being a wedding venue it was crashing and banging all day and, unfortunately, all times of the night too! Which when you are under canvas can be a little irritating.
Having said this it did not detract too much from our stay. We saw no-one from Walcot hall the entire visit?!
