  • Adults-only campsite at a Shropshire inn on the edge of Bridgnorth
  • Severn Valley Railway five minutes’ drive; Ironbridge Gorge 25 minutes
  • Hardstanding pitches with electricity; pub food and real ale on site
When it’s time to sneak off for an adults-only Shropshire break, make a dash for the family-owned tourer pitches behind 16th-century Halfway House Inn on the outskirts of Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Suitable for most sizes of motorhome, this small caravan park has neatly landscaped pitches on hardstanding, all with electrical hook-ups and their own direct water supply (but none with a connection for toilet waste). With 14 courses under an hour’s drive and numerous fishing spots on the River Severn, Halfway House Inn makes a great base for keen golfers and anglers – and if you’re a real ale lover, all you need to do is nip into the pub for a pint of your favourite brew (the bar is open daily). If you’re intent on self-catering, you can rustle up barbecue suppers on site; although alternatively the pub serves tasty British classics from Thursday to Monday. Facilities-wise, the small on-site toilet block has separate facilities for men and women – all with bags of hot water in the showers – and the loos in the pub are open 24/7 during the main holiday months. There’s also a dedicated washing-up area so you can keep on top of the chores.

What customers say

This adult-only campsite is situated behind a historic pub, offering spacious pitches with electric and water hook-ups. Guests frequently praise the friendly staff, clean facilities, and the excellent food and drink at the on-site pub. A key point for many is the proximity to Bridgnorth and beautiful countryside walks. However, some guests have been disturbed by noise from nearby kennels, and limited Wi-Fi signal is noted. Issues with shower block maintenance and capacity have been raised but are being addressed.

Liked The staff were very friendly and the evening meal of salmon was the best I have ever tasted!
Cosy, quaint pub.
Pitches each had own water supply and EHU.
Not the camps problem but the nearby howling of dogs was upsetting, having said that the dogs did stop, presumably when they were fed their food.

It's wonderful to hear that our team made you feel welcome and that the salmon was the best you've ever tasted – that's fantastic feedback and something our chef will be thrilled to hear! We're also pleased you enjoyed the cosy atmosphere of our 16th Century inn and appreciated the convenience of the water and electric hook-up on your pitch.

From the manager: Hi Steve,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We're pleased to hear you found Peter friendly and that you'd recommend us to others and visit again.

We're sorry to read that you felt your experience with our management and bar team wasn't as positive as it should have been. We pride ourselves on offering a warm welcome to every guest, so your comments have been noted and will be discussed with the team as we continually work to improve.

We're also sorry that another guest had incorrectly emptied their toilet waste into the grey water disposal. Unfortunately, despite having clearly marked facilities, this occasionally happens through human error. As soon as we're made aware of it, we clean and sanitise the area immediately.

We appreciate your honest feedback and hope we'll have the opportunity to provide you with an even better experience on your next visit.

Warm regards,
Peter, Kiki & Team

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, Steve.

We're pleased to hear you found our facilities clean and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere during your stay.

We're sorry to learn about the issues you experienced. Unfortunately, the barking dogs are from neighbouring kennels and are outside of our control, although we do appreciate that it can occasionally be disruptive.

We're also disappointed to hear about the misuse of the water point and the dog mess on the pitch. We work hard to keep the site clean and tidy, and we'll continue to remind guests to use the facilities responsibly and to clean up after their dogs.

We're particularly sorry that you felt our manager was a little off. Those who know Kiki will know she's normally cheerful, welcoming and always goes above and beyond for our guests. On this occasion, she was dealing with an unexpected issue behind the scenes, which may have affected how she came across, but this was very much a one-off and certainly not the standard of hospitality we pride ourselves on.

Thank you again for your honest feedback. We genuinely appreciate it and hope you'll visit us again so we can provide the five-star experience we're known for.

Warm regards

Liked Fantastic. Great site, great pub, great wine (my husband said an excellent pint of ale too) and brilliant food.
Can’t wait to visit again. Thank you Peter for your amazing hospitality. Oh and that door!!! How much has that door seen over the centuries. England winning 4-2 was icing on the cake. ❤️

From the manager: Hi Jan,

Wow – thank you so much for your wonderful review! It was an absolute pleasure to welcome you both to The Halfway House Inn.

We're delighted you enjoyed the campsite, the food, the wine, and of course the ale too! It really means a lot to hear such kind words about our hospitality.

The old door certainly has a story to tell, doesn't it? If only it could talk! It's witnessed centuries of history, and now it can add England's 4–2 victory to its long list of memorable moments.

We can't wait to welcome you back for another stay, another great meal, and hopefully another England win!

Warm regards
Peter, Kiki & Team

Local attractions

Start your local explorations in Bridgnorth (five minutes’ drive) on the River Severn. This pretty town was once a busy port, and today has a timber-framed Town Hall dominating the lively market square, a Victorian funicular that joins upper and lower towns, and an 11th-century castle with a tower that has a bigger lean than anything Pisa can offer. Shropshire’s industrial heritage can be seen at Daniels Mill (five minutes), set in a wooded valley with its vast restored waterwheel; there are tours to see the milling process. The viaduct close by carries the steam-driven Severn Valley Railway, which you can join at the station on the outskirts of Bridgnorth (five minutes). Other heritage spots include the restored furnaces and pottery kilns at Ironbridge Gorge Museum (25 minutes), or the recreated streets, steam engines and period shops at the Black Country Living Museum (40 minutes). When all you want is to spend time in nature, there are several fisheries and golf courses within 20 minutes’ drive of the site. Alternatively, head for the Shropshire Hills National Landscape (20 minutes), where you can join Offa’s Dyke Path or climb to the Iron Age hillfort at the top of The Wrekin landmark hill.
