  • Adults-only campsite at a Shropshire inn on the edge of Bridgnorth
  • Severn Valley Railway five minutes’ drive; Ironbridge Gorge 25 minutes
  • Hardstanding pitches with electricity; pub food and real ale on site
When it’s time to sneak off for an adults-only Shropshire break, make a dash for the family-owned tourer pitches behind 16th-century Halfway House Inn on the outskirts of Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Suitable for most sizes of motorhome, this small caravan park has neatly landscaped pitches on hardstanding, all with electrical hook-ups and their own direct water supply (but none with a connection for toilet waste). With 14 courses under an hour’s drive and numerous fishing spots on the River Severn, Halfway House Inn makes a great base for keen golfers and anglers – and if you’re a real ale lover, all you need to do is nip into the pub for a pint of your favourite brew (the bar is open daily). If you’re intent on self-catering, you can rustle up barbecue suppers on site; although alternatively the pub serves tasty British classics from Thursday to Monday. Facilities-wise, the small on-site toilet block has separate facilities for men and women – all with bags of hot water in the showers – and the loos in the pub are open 24/7 during the main holiday months. There’s also a dedicated washing-up area so you can keep on top of the chores.

What customers say

This adult-only campsite is located close to Bridgnorth and behind a 16th-century pub. Visitors praise the friendly staff, clean facilities (showers and toilets are often mentioned as warm and clean), and the excellent food served at the pub. Pitches are generally described as good-sized, level, and private, with water and EHU. Some guests mention noise from nearby kennels, limited Wi-Fi on pitches, and that the pub kitchen has limited opening hours. Plans are in place to address shower block decor and potentially improve Wi-Fi.

Liked Nice site, friendly owners. Self check-in plenty of info provided before arrival due to being low season, spacious pitches, clean facilities which are in process of being decorated. Pub welcoming dog friendly nice meals. Didn't walk into Bridgnprth but appears close enough to do. 4G available on site WiFi in pub as advertised.

Disliked Could hear dogs barking most night (nearby kennels?) wasn't loud to wake but could hear if you woke.

From the manager: Hi Julie

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review — it’s really appreciated.

We’re delighted you enjoyed the site, found the self check-in and pre-arrival information helpful, and that you liked the spacious pitches and clean facilities. It’s also great to hear you felt welcome in the pub and enjoyed the food — and that the dog-friendly atmosphere and WiFi were just as advertised.

Thank you as well for mentioning the facilities refurbishment; we’re gradually updating them during the quieter season to keep disruption to a minimum.

We appreciate your feedback regarding the dogs barking at night. As you suspected, this can occasionally be from nearby kennels, particularly during quieter hours when background noise is low. We’re glad it wasn’t enough to disturb your sleep, but we do understand how it could be noticeable.

Thanks again for your recommendation, and we’d love to welcome you back for another visit in the future.

Warm regards

Peter & The Team

Liked Beautiful location. Not far from bridgnorth town. Stunning pub when it opened.

Disliked Pitch up didn't tell us the pub was on limited hours and serving no food.

From the manager: Hi Leanne

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and for recommending us to friends.
We’re really pleased you enjoyed the beautiful location and found us conveniently close to Bridgnorth, and it’s lovely to hear you thought the pub looked stunning when it opened.

We’re sorry for any disappointment caused regarding the pub opening hours and food service during your stay. This information should have been communicated in advance, and we appreciate you highlighting it so we can make sure it’s clearer going forward, both on Pitchup and directly with guests.

Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future for a stay that fully meets expectations.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for recommending us to friends — and we’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed the pub

We were a little surprised by the overall score, especially as you’d visit again, but we do appreciate your honest feedback. The toilets and showers are cleaned thoroughly every day and are often complimented for being warm and clean, however we do take on board your comment about décor and painting. Refreshing these areas is already on our improvement list for January.

We hope to welcome you back again soon and show you the improvements in person.

Kind regards,

Peter & The Halfway Team

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Good location close to Bridgnorth. Friendly staff. Pub was pleasant with a great beef pie and gammon. Good selection of gins. Fine for a short stay.

Disliked Shower block could have been cleaner and it is quite small and dated. Not the fault of site staff but it looked like someone had washed their dogs in the shower as there was literally mud everywhere. They had also left dog mess along the path to the pub. WiFi only works inside the pub.

From the manager: Hi
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed and balanced review, and for recommending us to friends — we really do appreciate it.

We’re pleased you enjoyed the location, our friendly team, and the pub, especially the beef pie, gammon, and gin selection. It’s also lovely that you captured the sunset view from your pitch — those sunset views really are something special.

We’re sorry to hear the shower block wasn’t at its best during your visit. Our toilets and showers usually receive many compliments for being warm and clean, and they are thoroughly cleaned every day. We also have clear signage in place stating that dogs are not allowed in the shower block. Unfortunately, on this occasion it appears other guests did not follow these rules, which is frustrating and not reflective of our usual standards.

Regarding the WiFi, we do our best, but being in the countryside — and with a 16th-century inn — reliable connectivity can be a challenge, as these buildings were certainly not designed with modern technology in mind. That said, the signal is strongest in the pub and we continue to explore ways to improve it where possible.
Thank you again for your honest feedback. We appreciate it and hope to welcome you back again in the future.

Cheers Peter & The Halfway Team

Liked Matt was extremely helpful; weather was dreadful but he checked all ok for our visit.

Hardstanding pitch was excellent; close to amenities.

Had dinner & really enjoyed it!

Disliked Only the weather which Matt could not control!

From the manager: Hi Sonja

Thank you so much for the lovely review!

We're really glad to hear you enjoyed your stay, found the pitch spot-on, and had a great dinner with us. The team will be chuffed to hear they made a good impression—they do try their best.

As for the weather… we’ve had a word with it, but it’s refusing to go on a performance improvement plan. If only we could pop a roof over Bridgnorth!

We’d be delighted to welcome you back again soon—hopefully under clearer skies next time. And thank you for recommending us to friends, it means the world!

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Toilet and shower cubicles are individual so more privacy. Local pub was good and mostly nice food with good service.

Disliked I appreciate why sites put timers on the showers but I had to keep pressing the shower button every 5 secs which when trying washing your hair and shampoo out it's very difficult and frustrating a bit longer would be appreciated.
Wifi didn't reach the motorhome it was only available in the pub.
But over priced compared to other sites with more facilities and nicer grounds.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Laura

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed the privacy of our individual toilet and shower cubicles, and that you found the local pub welcoming with good food and service.

We’re glad you mentioned the showers — they are completely free to use and located within a heated shower block, providing extra comfort even on cooler days. The timers are there to help conserve water and support our eco-friendly approach, but we’ll review the timing to see if it can be adjusted to make washing and rinsing a little easier.

Regarding the WiFi, we completely understand your frustration. Being in the heart of the beautiful Shropshire countryside does bring its challenges — even getting a reliable signal to the pub itself has been a bit of a mammoth task! We’re continuing to explore options to improve coverage across the wider site wherever possible.

We’re sorry to hear you felt the site was a little overpriced. Our rates reflect the peaceful rural setting, the facilities we maintain, and the friendly service we aim to provide for all our guests.

Warm regards

Matt & Team

Local attractions

Start your local explorations in Bridgnorth (five minutes’ drive) on the River Severn. This pretty town was once a busy port, and today has a timber-framed Town Hall dominating the lively market square, a Victorian funicular that joins upper and lower towns, and an 11th-century castle with a tower that has a bigger lean than anything Pisa can offer. Shropshire’s industrial heritage can be seen at Daniels Mill (five minutes), set in a wooded valley with its vast restored waterwheel; there are tours to see the milling process. The viaduct close by carries the steam-driven Severn Valley Railway, which you can join at the station on the outskirts of Bridgnorth (five minutes). Other heritage spots include the restored furnaces and pottery kilns at Ironbridge Gorge Museum (25 minutes), or the recreated streets, steam engines and period shops at the Black Country Living Museum (40 minutes). When all you want is to spend time in nature, there are several fisheries and golf courses within 20 minutes’ drive of the site. Alternatively, head for the Shropshire Hills National Landscape (20 minutes), where you can join Offa’s Dyke Path or climb to the Iron Age hillfort at the top of The Wrekin landmark hill.
