  • Back to basics Cotswolds camping at a family-run rural site
  • Burford and Blenheim Palace within 20 minutes' drive
  • Walk to Shipton-under-Wychwood along a footpath in half an hour
These are some pretty pitches indeed – Your Cotswold Adventure is tucked away in a grass field surrounded by mature plum trees and hedgerows, and flanked by fields of wildflowers. It’s all located within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with gorgeous views all around of the surrounding hills and the Evenlode River valley. It’s the sort of rural setting that may well make you think you’re miles away from any sort of useful amenities, but in fact it’s a mere mile from Shipton-under-Wychwood, a handy village with a shop, bakery and pub. Several excellent cafés, pubs and farm shops are also scattered around nearby, so you’ll not be short of treats (perhaps to take back to the lovely little secluded picnic spot mown into a field just next to the pitches. Foodie needs sorted, it’s time to think about ways to fill your days around here – perhaps walks on trails like the Oxfordshire Way and Wychwood Way, outings to popular Cotswold towns such as Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water and Chipping Norton or family days at the likes of the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Cotswold Farm Park. There are several bus services linking local villages for those who’d like to travel around public transport. Back at base, it’s very much a wild-style setup – you’ll need to be fairly self-sufficient as there are no toilets or showers on site, and no mains water supply (although you’ll be supplied with five litres of drinking water per booking). Pitches are on grass but there's a hardstanding driveway for easy access.

Local attractions

If you’re here to soak up as much rural scenery as possible there are lots of ways to do that, including some gorgeous walking/cycling trails through the hills and stops at spots like the Rollright Stones (20 minutes’ drive) and Broadway Tower (35 minutes). Wychwood Wild Garden (five minutes) and Batsford Arboretum (half an hour) are top picks for nearby garden visits. The towns and villages around here are just as pretty as the landscape, of course, so it’s worth planning trips to the likes of Burford (10 minutes), Bourton-on-the-Water (20 minutes) and Stow-on-the-Wold (20 minutes). Fabulous architecture and outdoor spaces are also on hand in places like Cornbury Park (five minutes) and Blenheim Palace (20 minutes). For family days out, you can join all sorts of events at FarmEd (five minutes), meet exotic beasts at Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (15 minutes) or hang out with cute farmyard animals at Cotswold Farm Park (half an hour).

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: Hana was a superb host and went out of her way to help by providing me with frozen bottles of water because my fridge had ceased to work. The only slight downside was getting my motorhome level because of the slope of the site. A bit basic but Hana hopes to add a shower block and running water next year. This year was just to get started. Very good value for money.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely location - Cotswold hills look incredible with the mist rolling off them at dawn, and there is a Co-op open till 10 plus some pretty great pubs all within walking distance. Hana was a very good and communicative host. Recommend you visit this site whilst it's still new and relatively unknown.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely small site in tranquil area but within a mile walk of a pub. Felt very safe as female camping on my own. Hosts Hannah and her Mum friendly and helpful. Hard to find but signs to go up soon. However Hannah was great at giving me directions over the phone.

Disliked: Doesn't have loos yet else would have given it 5 stars. However loos, water and washing facilities on their way soon.
