Liked Spotless facilities. Loved seeing the horses and Alpacas daily. Dogs loved the exercise area so they were able to burn off energy. Close to little town.

1 bedroom lodge

Liked Accommodation comfortable, everything thought out. Surroundings, alpaca and horses were a joy to see.

Disliked Would have preferred an electric kettle for quickness and an extra throw for the bed as it was a bit nippy.

Definitely re-visit

Fully-serviced grass pitch

Liked We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Midshires, we stayed for 3 nights camping. The pitch itself was large and can tell they have been looked after. We just came for a peaceful few days which is what we got! If you love planes then this is the site for you! With the airport not far away we were sat on flight radar just watching them. We are seasoned campers and the toilets and showers are the cleanest we have ever come across, you can tell they are looked after.
Also what we loved was the added bonus of the alpacas and saying hello to them.
Overall a very good experience, the owners were very helpful and friendly and will certainly be back again in the summer!

Disliked There is nothing not to like!

Local attractions

Close to base, you can ride the steam-powered Great Central Railway (15 minutes' drive); amble towards East Leake and watch the trains puffing through if you only fancy a glimpse. Other local activities of note include spots such as Rushcliffe Golf Course (five minutes), Lakeside Sporting fishing lakes (15 minutes) and Prestwold (10 minutes), where you can get behind the wheel of a turbo-charged car. Visit more motorsport spots, starting with nearby Donington Park Circuit (20 minutes), or try some old-school four-legged racing at Nottingham's racecourse instead. When the heat of the action's worn off, consider taking a trip to the John Taylor & Co bell foundry, the biggest such site in the world. If campanology doesn't quite chime in with your idea of a dream break, perhaps you'll be taken by alternative heritage sites like Calke Abbey (half an hour) or Belvoir Castle (40 minutes), where the architecture and formal gardens are as good as certain to pass muster with history buffs. Rutland Water (45 minutes) is another promising destination if you're minded to get up to walks, bike rides, birdspotting or watersports in a thoroughly natural setting.
