Liked Great location near the river so plus points as a visiting fisherman. Facilities, toilets, showers etc were clean and water was hot.

Disliked They have an ongoing security issue which means the main gate was locked at all times and it needed a phone call to be let in and out. I wanted to be on the river at 6am but this was not really possible given I'd have needed to be let out at 5.30!

Liked The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We could choose where we wanted to pitch.
There was a large group of people in tents with children and dogs. However, we were far enough away not to be disturbed by them.

Disliked Facilities were dated, but nipping clean.
Having to call for the gates to be opened every time we wanted to leave the site or return. The gates were secured with a large chain and padlock.

Liked Nice camping site, good communication with owners & manager. Close to river Trent walk, Newark,Southwell & Nottingham.
Everything you need, clean toilets & showers with plenty of toilet roll.

Disliked Having to be let in & out by the site manager. There had been issues with a trespasser so had to keep gates locked at all times.

Liked The walks from the campsite were lovely, we did some lovely dog walks along the river to local pubs. The campsite was very peaceful and spacious. All staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Disliked Ladies shower no 3 was cold, but the other showers were warm. They were also very small, my partner wouldn't have fit in them being over 6ft.
Also the main gate kept being locked which was inconvenient if you needed to leave in the car.

Disliked Have been to many campsites and this one was certainly not the best by a long way. Showers were TINY and no mop to clear up the water. Very old and not very good toilet facilities. Would not return. Also access not good as gates always had a chain round which had to be removed every time and sometimes wait for the gates to be opened.

Liked Staff really friendly. We arrived to a warm welcome and got pitched up without issue.
The new warden was great, giving tips for good walks and was very helpful and friendly.
Right in the doorstep of the river Trent which you can access through the site without having to walk on the road. Head north to two great pubs. In the village a 5 - 10 minute walk away the pub was great also as was the tea room.

Disliked The facilities are a bit old and tight. But everything worked and the showers were hot so not the end of the world.

Liked Location and facilities were clean and usable if a little outdated. Plenty of space.

Disliked Campsite as a whole is just a bit scruffy. Abandoned caravans in various parts of the site and a dirty big RV with engine parts laying around at the entrance lets the site down hugely. Also it felt a bit prison like as the gate was chained shut and you had to call the warden to escape.

If the ancient forest’s fired you up about history, make for Newark (25 minutes) with its castle, National Civil War Centre and Air Museum. Or to feel as if you stepped back in time, take the 45-minute trip to Wollaton Hall, where herds of red and fallow deer roam round a lake in the grounds of a stately Elizabethan mansion.
