    1) Dog poo everywhere (people that stayed after me 10/07/17 probably saw no poo as I picked it up! So old it was white!!!

    2) Didn't appreciate the dogs coming out pissing up our car and shutting on the site whilst I sat and watched!

    3) Couldn't let my own dog loose as the site was too dangerous ( wrecks, poo and rubbish everywhere!)

    4) The toilets and kitchen facilities are a health hazard and filthy!!

    5) We left after only a couple of hours (we had paid up front for four nights!)

    6) This place should NOT be advertised!!!! Absolute disgrace!!

    7) The pod itself was filthy and had obviously not been cleaned in a very long time!

From the manager...

I am sure reviews should be kept factual whoever wrote this is a fantasist. 1) If they found dog poo it was from their own dog, white, then perhaps their dog eats too many bones !! 2) If one of the site owners dogs had taken a poo whilst they watched then the owner or his partner would have been there to pick it up immediately. 3) 5 dogs live at the house which is 50 yards from the site but it is too dangerous for your dog ???? there is never any rubbish on the site, dog poo is picked up as it is done and what wrecks ??? 4) The toilets and kitchen are cleaned on a regular basis and before and after every booking. 5) your own choice 6) Your opinion only, there have been some great verbal reviews with people revisitng and some brilliant online reviews. 7) The pod is cleaned before and after every use. 8) You can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time.

    Disliked:

No shower whatsoever - one hand-basin that was filthy.
Pod was in an unmown field, and totally Spartan - not even a hook to hang clothes.
Not at all cheap at £40 per night, - for which I expect much more than this (and I am a very experienced camper).
Could not recommend this under any circumstances.

From the manager...

Uhmmmmm.

Our listing states that we do not, as yet, have a showers.
We have three hand basins. each of which are cleaned daily.
The grass is cut at least once a week when weather permits.
Spartan - Please read our listing! This is an ex-smallholding !

Clothes hooks? - Thank you, a valid comment which we have acted upon.

I find it very difficult to take critisism from someone who leaves used toilet tissues in one of my pods!!!

Me and my friends honestly had the most amazing time ... 17/07/2017

Me and my friends honestly had the most amazing time staying here last weekend. There were four of us and it looked the perfect place to get away for a weekend, we all lead quite hectic lives and this was just what we needed. The bad reviews did make us a tad apprehensive but I cannot fault the location, qaulity of the pods or the hosts in the slightest. The lovely couple who built the huts are incredibly welcoming and friendly and helped us so much. The dogs were absolutely lovely and did not disrupt us at all. There's so much character to this place, from the workshop to the little forrest, we came not expecting glamping or much really due to the negativity and the bad reviews, but left feeling a little sad. This place is a hidden gem and if you're looking for a retreat, surrounded by nature and a getaway, I whole heartedly reccoment Witham Rest. I cannot rate the hosts high enough, absolutely incredible people with amazing stories to tell. It won't be long until I'm back I assure you of that. Thank you so much for having me and my friends, we certainly won't be forgetting Witham Rest for the best reasons possible, I had one of the best weekends I've ever had thanks to your warm hospitality and the incredible accomodation. It's something different and refreshing, if you're debating visiting, I say do it, I promise you won't regret it. We're already planning our return!

I don't know where to start with this review apart from amsaying a huge thank you to the amazing people at Witham Rest for being so caring and welcoming to me and my friends. To begin with we did struggle to find the place but we gave them a call and were given exact directions and found it almost instantly after. After reading some of the awful reviews on the website we were all abit apprehensive about what we were going to be faced with. But it was safe to say we had an amazing night building fires and cooking BBQ food with the help of the lovely gentlemen there. We couldn't initially start the fire but with help we managed to create an amazing one! I was absolutely shook by how lovely the dogs were and we didn't hear a peep out of them all night and there was no dog poo anywhere to be seen. Yes the grass was a little long and there were cars around but they were all out of the way of the pods! Through the cracks in the trees we were faced with a beautiful sunset with was great for the Instagram posts 😂 We were given free eggs in the morning and had an amazing time collected wood from the little forest down the side of their home. Not being funny people who wrote the reviews of glamping have it all wrong. They don't advertise this as glamping because it's not. It's just a couple who have some much live and care for people that come a visit. They even built these pods themselves! Thank you so much for the amazing time we had I can't wait to come an visit again!!

From the manager...

You are absolutely correct - this is not glamping and we have never advertised nor professed that we are a Glamping site.
Perhaps you should have paid more attention to our site description before booking.
Also - Please refrain from making statements such as "Don't go here" when leaving any feedback - it is very subjective and means nothing to our potential clients who are looking for what we actually offer!

Don't like to write negative but honesty is best.

We had no heating in our pod which was advertised so got very cold during the night- although we paid a little more for the 'Opsrey pod' I'm not quite sure what the difference was other than maybe being VERY slightly longer. The cleanliness of the 'toilet' and the 'kitchen' in the workshop you had to go through was extremely poor. The 'free firewood' is a case of go and find your own (whatever you can find) in the woods behind their house with five dogs going crazy. BBQ advertised you would have thought would come with some kind of tools, but didn't and was told the only thing we would need was charcoal and a lighter. The grass was overgrown and dog poo was near our pod and also surrounding, abandoned cars, boat, and the workshop was about as good as the view got, didn't feel welcome at all, and also received a text on the day telling me (not asking) that from 3pm onwards was okay for her because she needs sleep from working when the site advertised from 2pm and we had everything arranged including a babysitter for our daughter. Very basic and certainly overpriced, I know camping isn't meant to be 'glamorous' but the advertisement (which led to false expectations) was far from the 'reality' of the site.

From the manager...

We are so sorry that you were not satisfied with your stay.

Its a shame that your parting verbal comments were not reflected in your feedback but we fully understand that face to face criticism is not always easy for some people.

We have never claimed to provide "Glamping" and we have been very honest about the facilities we can currently offer.

However, we do welcome and thank you for your comments as they are vital to us in improving our little facility.

Local attractions

Witham Rest's local settlement of Woodhall Spa is a Fairtrade village, full of independent shops selling everything from clothes to cakes to pampering for pets.

It's also famed for its National Golf Centre, two courses and an academy on a landscape that's been voted among the top 25 courses in the world, and for its Kinema in the Woods, the only cinema in the UK to still use back projection. Kinema is open every day of the year apart from 25 December.

As this is Fenland, long-distance walks are easily accessed from the village, like the Viking Way, passing through Woodhall Spa on its 147-mile route from the Humber Bridge in north Lincolnshire to Oakham in Rutland; the Spa Way, a traffic-free footpath for 3.3 miles between Woodhall Spa and Horncastle, and the Water Rail Way, a 25-mile path along the banks of the River Witham.

The Witham Rest crew also reckons that the Lincolnshire Fens are one of the best-kept holiday secrets in the UK, especially for history buffs and those who like wide open spaces around which to tramp.

Dating back to the times of World War II, the area is known these days too for its planes and RAF memorabilia, particularly via the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight based at RAF Coningsby, home to a Lancaster bomber, Spitfires and Hurricanes, all of which can regularly be seen over the campsite. The Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa is where the 612 Dam Busters squadron was based during World War II.

Other options are the antique shops and local produce market of market town Horncastle, a few miles from base on the River Bain; Lincoln with its castle, museums and cathedral, within a 20-mile drive, and the sandy beaches and lively nightlife of Skegness, 24 miles away and suitable for families as well as party peeps.
