  • Family and fishing site a mile from Sutton on Sea
  • Seven-acre freshwater fishing in a birdwatching haven
  • Free hot showers, play area and launderette
You’ll grin from ear to ear when you catch sight of the fishing lake at Lincolnshire’s Lakeside Springs: it has a whopping seven acres to tackle, bursting with freshwater specimens that even tiddlers find easy to reel in. If the thought of free fishing from dawn to dusk isn't a lure, other factors at the park might make you bite instead: the birdwatching to be had from the lake’s shores (all sorts of local and migrant birds flutter around this water); the heated pool available to Lakeside guests nearby at its sister park Trusthorpe Springs from May to the beginning of September, and the location, only a mile from the award-winning sands of Sutton on Sea. Security and facilities are cast-iron on site, with security gates for added safety, free electric showers, washing-up area, launderette, and a play area and returfed grassy space for small fry. Once you've landed a few dozen fish and spent a day at Sutton on Sea, Lakeside Springs is a tiddling distance from other Lincolnshire sandy highlights like Mablethorpe to the north and Skegness to the south. More fish available at both, of course – they go lip-smackingly well with chips…

Local attractions

Lakeside Springs is in pole position for Lincolnshire coastline and countryside: the county’s seaside capital Skegness is about 10 miles away, and it’s easy to reach inland attractions like the Lincolnshire Wolds and market towns like Alford and Louth. Sandy Sutton on Sea is quite a bit quieter than its busier neighbours Mablethorpe and Skegness; as well as basking on its award-winning beach, you could dip into the Mapleleaf paddling pool on the seafront, roll along to the bowling green or browse around the town's shops, tearooms and restaurants. Say Pah to bringing the car when exploring the Lincolnshire coast: a promenade cycleway runs the couple of miles from Sutton on- ea to Mablethorpe, or explorers can take the bus outside Sutton’s post office to hop off at all the main seaside stops, including Ingoldmells and Chapel St Leonards to finish up at Skegness. Inland, a bus runs regularly from Mablethorpe to the market town of Louth and its esteemed farmers’ market and specialist grocers including award-winning The Cheese Shop (it should be pointed out here that the shop also sells wine and port...). Naturalists and birdwatchers have stacks to see and do around both coast and countryside after twitching around the lake: the seabirds at Skegness’s Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve are a screamingly good sight; the reserve at Donna Nook comes with a colony of grey seals, and inland, Red Hills Nature Reserve is where to see snakes and lizards and to feel warm-blooded at the adder-ly wonderful views.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Although somewhat basic in terms of amenities the toilet block was small but always clean as was the site. The fishing was enjoyable but i was somewhat annoyed at the lack of organisation regarding their fishing match the next day after i arrived as i was not told anything prior to my arrival, regardless of this i was told i could still fish on the public side of the lake so i set up early the next morning as did others only to be told at 9am they now need the public side too and we were made to pack everything up and move A SIMPLE SIGN SAYING NO FISHING TODAY THE NIGHT BEFORE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE EASIEST THING IN THE WORLD TO DO IF AN OUNCE OF THOUGHT FOR OTHERS WERE GIVEN NOT THE BEST START TO MY HOLIDAY THANKS other than that it was a good week with a variety of fish of good sizes to be caught and polite staff

Disliked: for some people reading signs to open a toilet door is not the norm, perhaps a bigger brighter sign would be better or why do you have to press a switch to go out of the toilet????

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hello Michael, my apologises over the confusion regarding fishing but we had to make some last minute changes to the organised fishing match as the depth of water effected the ability to land fish, without causing injury to them, on some of the designated pegs, but I'm pleased you enjoyed your fishing. We restrict use of the central block to our touring guests only by use of a fob which activates a magnetic lock - the button inside disables the lock to permit exit.

Friendly site great location.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Ideal Pitch to watch our children play , beautiful kept lakes and walks. Great base for the beach .

Disliked: Sight was full toilets and shower blocks needed some attention as very smelly of sewerage I would like to suggest that they maybe cleaned more often and replenished toilet rolls. Shower went from hot to freezing no happy medium. We would return if these facilities where regular cleaned and maintained.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hello Fran, thank you for your comments. I will investigate why the shower went from cold to hot and I note your comment regarding frequency of cleaning during busy periods and will discuss this with my Team.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Close to Sutton on sea.

Disliked: Arrived to camp for the bank holiday weekend to have a quiet one with my husband for our anniversary and unfortunately, we did not have the best of experiences. Upon arrival, straight away once seeing our camper van the warden said “you do have a proper awning don’t you as some people have tried to put up tents before with those vans” so we explained our awning connected to the van. So he said that was ok. We got set up with our camper and glawning and were within pitch limitations. A party of two pitches arrived later that evening and queried their pitch size (due to them being worried about being able to reach the EHU point with the warden which prompted the warden to tell us that our awning was not an awning… we shown the warden photos and explained we just hadn’t put the connector on by that point as we had the doors open to cool the awning and van down ready for the dog to sleep comfortably. The warden then agreed that it was an awning was too big and didn’t fit within their 3.5meter awning rule. Which was correct. However, this rule was not published via pitchup (where we had booked. The warden called his manager, who spoke with myself on the phone. He told us we had to take the awning down tonight (after only being up for an hour)… I explained that there must be an admin error on pitchup as the rule wasn’t listed on pitchup, but we did fit within the pitch and explained that if we took it down, due to the size of it rolled up along with the pole bag we wouldn’t have any space in the camper to pull our bed down and sleep and our dog also wouldn’t fit in with us then. He did not care and was unwilling to admit this error, show any compassion or give any grace. Instead he repeatedly told me to take the “wigwam thing” down and leave the site. I explained we couldn’t leave the site as we had both had a couple of beers and it would therefore be illegal for us to drive. To which he said “get off in the morning”. The next morning, we had packed up and headed to the office for our refund. We again spoke to the manager, who this time acknowledged the error with the listing on pitchup and apologised. If the manager had customer service skills, this could have very easily been resolved. It would have caused no bother to admit the error and worked with us to find a reasonable solution. I fail to understand how we were not allowed a 4m awning and 1.9meter tent on our pitch but caravan owners were allowed range rovers / people carriers, large caravans, an awning and a garden type area with bbqs, windbreaks, clothing lines etc. The warden advised us to ensure our setup was pitched from parking half over the floor stone and allowing for the next pitch to begin at half a floor stone - as you can see from the images with the circles floor stones, we were within this. In the future, maybe just state no campervans allowed as I truly believe that the site is yet another caravan oriented site who do not appreciate campervans. The positives were - the location was very close to Sutton on sea and it was a small, quiet site with a small play area near the camping pitches which is nice if you have children. Negatives aside from the above - one shower in the blocks which ran from boiling to freezing. Only allocated one shower / toilet fob which means we had to take turns and wait for the other to be finished. Small pitches.

From the manager: Hello Nicole, Thank you for leaving your comments. I am sorry you experienced problems during your recent visit. Concern was raised after my Warden identified you had erected an independent large tent structure at the side of your campervan, which was not connected to your campervan (as your own photo shows). Sadly I did not have access to your booking details and was unable to visit the park at that time of the evening and had to deal with this remotely as you had insisted on speaking to me over the telephone. We do accept, and have had many stay, campervans with awnings but awnings must be attached to the van. As you had told me you had had a couple of drinks I agreed you should not drive your vehicle and you should stay and that I would visit you in the morning to find a resolution; where I could have moved you to a bigger pitch. You decided to leave the park the next morning and a full refund was provided. Campervans, motorhomes and touring caravans are all welcome at the park and I have resolved the wrong information held by Pitch Up regarding awnings.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Friendly helpful warden, close to Sutton on Sea.

Disliked: Toilet /shower block. Would imagine one shower each for ladies and gentlemen not enough if site full. Was ok for us as not busy and although block had been cleaned some of the kids on site not toilet trained and left a mess. Not the fault of the site more the parents maybe. Shower in the mens leaking into toilet cubicle and a bit smelly.Wi-Fi not good. Not worth £30.50 per night.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your comments. Our central facility is sized to meet the number of touring pitches we have at the park when fully occupied. Were we are made aware of a mess we have staff that are able to attend and clear any mess away - we were not made aware of such an occurrence during your stay, sadly we cannot train the children and we do emphasis that parents are responsible for their children behaviour. The wi-fi di "fall over" during your visit but this was quickly restored when we called out the engineer. I will investigate your suggestion that the shower is leaking into the toilet cubicle. We do operate 2 adults only touring parks which may be of interest to you.

Nice friendly site, very accomodating - plan to return.

From the manager: Hello, we're pleased you enjoyed the park and the fishing. The central ablutions are cleaned daily and the entrance doors are part of the cleaning procedure, however, at this time of the year it is an ongoing battle with spiders etc but i note your point and will look at this.
