  • Family and fishing site a mile from Sutton on Sea
  • Seven-acre freshwater fishing in a birdwatching haven
  • Free hot showers, play area and launderette
You’ll grin from ear to ear when you catch sight of the fishing lake at Lincolnshire’s Lakeside Springs: it has a whopping seven acres to tackle, bursting with freshwater specimens that even tiddlers find easy to reel in. If the thought of free fishing from dawn to dusk isn't a lure, other factors at the park might make you bite instead: the birdwatching to be had from the lake’s shores (all sorts of local and migrant birds flutter around this water); the heated pool available to Lakeside guests nearby at its sister park Trusthorpe Springs from May to the beginning of September, and the location, only a mile from the award-winning sands of Sutton on Sea. Security and facilities are cast-iron on site, with security gates for added safety, free electric showers, washing-up area, launderette, and a play area and returfed grassy space for small fry. Once you've landed a few dozen fish and spent a day at Sutton on Sea, Lakeside Springs is a tiddling distance from other Lincolnshire sandy highlights like Mablethorpe to the north and Skegness to the south. More fish available at both, of course – they go lip-smackingly well with chips

Local attractions

Lakeside Springs is in pole position for Lincolnshire coastline and countryside: the county’s seaside capital Skegness is about 10 miles away, and it’s easy to reach inland attractions like the Lincolnshire Wolds and market towns like Alford and Louth. Sandy Sutton on Sea is quite a bit quieter than its busier neighbours Mablethorpe and Skegness; as well as basking on its award-winning beach, you could dip into the Mapleleaf paddling pool on the seafront, roll along to the bowling green or browse around the town's shops, tearooms and restaurants. Say Pah to bringing the car when exploring the Lincolnshire coast: a promenade cycleway runs the couple of miles from Sutton on- ea to Mablethorpe, or explorers can take the bus outside Sutton’s post office to hop off at all the main seaside stops, including Ingoldmells and Chapel St Leonards to finish up at Skegness. Inland, a bus runs regularly from Mablethorpe to the market town of Louth and its esteemed farmers’ market and specialist grocers including award-winning The Cheese Shop (it should be pointed out here that the shop also sells wine and port...). Naturalists and birdwatchers have stacks to see and do around both coast and countryside after twitching around the lake: the seabirds at Skegness’s Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve are a screamingly good sight; the reserve at Donna Nook comes with a colony of grey seals, and inland, Red Hills Nature Reserve is where to see snakes and lizards and to feel warm-blooded at the adder-ly wonderful views.
