  • Touring pitches at a 12-acre country park on the edge of Spilsby
  • Close to Lincolnshire Wolds walks; 20 minutes' drive to Skegness
  • Five fishing lakes on site, with bait shop and accessible platforms
If you like to have a fishing lake on site when you’re travelling in your tourer, it’s fair to say that you’ll probably be very happy indeed with a stay at Woodlands Fishery, on the edge of the Lincolnshire town of Spilsby. And that’s because this 12-acre country park is home to a peaceful carp and coarse fishery complex that’s got not one, not even two, but a splendid five different lakes for pleasure anglers to choose from. Owners Pam and Keiran always do their utmost to ensure this is a top-notch experience for all guests, keeping the lakes well stocked with carp, perch, bream, tench, rudd and other species. You’ll need to bring a licence along if you’d like to fish, and agree to the catch-and-release policy; tackle and baits are available at the shop, along with snacks and drinks, and there are accessible platforms so everyone can join the fishing fun. Not into fishing? No problem – there are plenty of other ways to fill your time nearby. The site is on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, with lots of lovely footpaths to follow for scenic walks, and there are attractions nearby like the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre or the National Trust’s Gunby Estate. And as Skegness is a mere 20 minutes’ drive away there’s also scope for a day at the seaside. Closer to home, a 10-minute walk takes you to the town centre for shops, cafés, takeaways and the Monday market. Facilities on site include a launderette, a washing-up area and a toilet block with underfloor heating. Touring pitches all have electric and water supplies plus waste disposal.

What customers say

Woodlands Fishery is highly praised for its peaceful atmosphere, immaculate facilities, and friendly, helpful owners, Pam and Kieran. Pitches are spacious, level, and fully serviced, with scenic views of the fishing lakes. The site is conveniently located a short walk from Spilsby town and is ideal for both anglers and those seeking a relaxing getaway. Minor points mentioned include occasional goose droppings and patchy phone signal.

Fully-serviced gravel touring caravan pitch

Liked Loved the site, great location and stunning walks around the lakes. Im disabled and use a mobility scooter but was still able to get around. Everything blends into the surroundings, the cabin, which is reception and a tackle shop made of wood, no bricks in site. The railway sleepers and wooden fencing, stunning lighting at night from metal work structures. Really peaceful at night. Could not fault it. Facilities great including disabled shower. Fully serviced pitches, make sure your leads and hoses are at least 10mtrs if coming here. Owners are great, park is run by mum and son. I will return, loved it.

Fully-serviced gravel touring caravan pitch

Liked Very clean facilities, decent sized pitches and peaceful. Friendly and helpful hosts. 10 minute walk into town to pub, 20 minutes to coast.

Disliked More a note of caution as wouldn't stop me staying again - the pitches have been edged with reclaimed railway sleepers, some of which have started leaking creosote in the hot weather which my partner, and then the dog, stood on and trailed into the caravan. This wasn't on all pitches. Hosts advised and they are looking for a solution.
Top tip if you do get creosote on carpet - ice cubes to harden it, scrape as much off as you can with knife or spoon, then rub with WD40 and wash off.

Fully-serviced gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely clean campsite, very modern and clean facilities, and lots of very well presented fishing a short stroll from your pitch. Pam and Kieran deserve a mention too; lovely people and always with a smile.

Disliked I don’t think it’s a good idea to have lovely clean facilities provided for people staying on the campsite; and allow anglers to use the same facilities. From experience when the weathers not so good, anglers tramping in and out will become cause for complaint, bearing in mind that not everyone is there to fish.

Local attractions

Drive north for a few minutes and you’ll reach the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape, a lovely area for walks among low hills. If you’re more of a stroller than a hiker, maybe you’d prefer a wander around one of the local heritage attractions – with a drive of 10 minutes you can get to either the ruins of 13th-century Bolingbroke Castle (birthplace of Henry IV) or the grander Gunby Estate, Hall and Gardens, with walled gardens, elaborate interiors and a rather nice tea room. For a different kind of history, head to Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (10 minutes’ drive), which has exhibits about World War II Bomber Command including a Lancaster bomber. Fancy some sea air? It’s a 20-minute drive to Skegness for a walk along the beach, a go on the rides at the amusement park and a visit to Natureland Seal Sanctuary. A little way south of the town, Gibraltar Point (25 minutes’ drive) is a popular location for birdwatchers; you might also spot seals here sometimes.
