General

  • Small friendly site 13 miles from Lincoln
  • Level and well-drained site
  • On the Ermine Way and the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Trail

What a handsomely historic location has the hamlet of Byards Leap – for it's between ancient Lincoln and the old market towns of Sleaford, Newark and Grantham; is on an aged Roman road, and is the setting of ye olde Byards Leap legend dating back centuries (Byard was a high-jumping horse, in case you're wondering). And the Knights Templar used to hang out around here too.

Folks use The Beeches campsite in the hamlet as a base to explore historic Lincolnshire or as a stopover enroute to Norfolk or the east coast: plenty of history around in those there parts too. It's a small and friendly site, level, grassy and well drained, with rather nice views over Lincolnshire farmland; access to the Ermine Way is straight from the site.

The Beeches has a play area and disabled-friendly amenities a few steps from the pitching area. It's next to the Byards Leap café which dishes up excellent breakfasts and lunches from Thursday to Sunday; a handful of good pubs and restaurants is within a five-mile radius too.

Dogs are welcome at The Beeches – we recommend old Roman road Ermine Street for walks...

Please note

A charge of 10p per minute applies for the use of shower.

Spacious, generous sized pitches, even though next to the A17 you forget about the noise, great views of planes daily flying over and gliders too. Nice views and plenty of walks around the area, play area for the kids and woodlands that they played in and made dens. We stayed here for 3 months until we found a site closer to home, will certainly be returning when passing. Family friendly and fantastic friendly owners. Thanks for having us x

Really enjoyed my stay here. A small family run site, who are so friendly and will help in any way they can to accommodate your needs. I made a lot of friends here and although I don't usually go back to the same site twice, will certainly consider going again, even on my own, as it feels so safe. The grandkids loved the freedom here and got back to 'playing outside', making dens etc and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The pitches are a good size and drainage is brilliant. Although I could barely get a phone signal and no wifi, it was actually quite nice to be away from it all for a change. Even though the site is next to the very busy A17, we really did get used to the traffic noise. I really hope this site doesn't change too much. Shower is fab, toilets although dated, are very clean.

Close to home. Good site for our trial run first outing in a new caravan

    Disliked:

Upon arrival just told a pitch number. Had to call an emergency contact phone number to locate the electricity hook up point. Didn't see any staff all weekend. Very old and tired facilities. The pitch we were on didn't have enough room for our awning so couldn't put it up and pitches were very close together crowded.

From the manager...

Sorry to hear your comments.

We don't bother our campers unless there is a problem. I was in the building next to the campsite.
Sorry you couldn't put your awning up, others have no problem putting there's up. You are the first.

Regards
Shaun

Local attractions

Pick up details of local walks, cycle routes and town maps as well as leaflets and tourist info on site: there's quite a bit to do all around. A mix of quiet roads and bridleways linking the area's Lincolnshire villages means there's quite a bit to see if you want to get around by foot, pedal or horse.

As well as being on the Ermine Way, The Beeches is also on the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Trail and is close to the RAF Cranwell Heritage Centre and the Newark Air Museum. The Newark Showground is nearby too for shows, displays and events.

Plenty more history is at Lincoln – see the castle and cathedral if you only have time for two things – and at nearby National Trust properties like Grantham House and Tattershall Castle.

Or take trips around Lincolnshire's old towns, like Sleaford, a market town since the twelfth century; Grantham, where Isaac Newton went to school, and Newark, besieged by the roundy-headed ones in the English Civil War.
