  • In a secluded location on a working 140-acre family farm
  • Four miles from Skegness and a 10-minute drive from the Lincs Wolds
  • Fishing lake, playground and access to miles of walks around the farm
Park yourself at this smashing site for dreamy days deep in Lincolnshire countryside, easy angling on site and proximity to seaside days… family-run Windfarm Park is only four miles west of Skegness and a 10-minute drive from the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. But you might decide to stick around on site when you see what's on offer right at your secluded countryside base. Windfarm Park's fishing lake is a popular pull for anglers of all ages, as a place where tiddlers can land small fish easily and where the more experienced can catch specimen bream, carp, barbel, chub, tench, roach and rudd (a small extra charge applies for fishing). Lots of walks are around too, including several miles of private strolls around the farm taking in the many species of local wildlife. Windfarm Park is a 140-acre farm in a deeply rural and secluded setting, set up for back to basics stays with fishing thrown in. It's a pet-friendly, family-friendly and warmly welcoming site, a short distance from the pubs, restaurants, takeaways and small supermarkets of the villages of Burgh Le Marsh, Wainfleet and Croft. The owners generate their own electricity via a solar farm. The farm also has a playground and plenty of room for kids to run around. The heated, well-sized and excellently-kept facilities block has modern free hot showers and sockets for hairdryers; the family room is suitable for guests with disabilities.

Electric grass pitch (XL)

Liked: Location was great, pitches were spacious and flat and very quiet at night.

Disliked: Only 2 washing up stations, 2 showers in the men's side for the size and number of pitches I felt there needed to be more. Often queues for both facilities.

There was a mixup with our booking which meant the team had to move the entire bookings around as we had young kids which they didn't want near the lake. This took a fair amount of time to resolve.

This next dislike is not something the campsite can do about, but with it being by the side of a lake full of geese, the campsite was covered in wildlife "excrement ". Very difficult to then keep young kids from running into the camp with shies on covered in it and getting everything dirty.

Electric grass pitch (XL)

Liked: Grounds are clean and pretty, tent pitch are reasonably flat, can pitch up next to fishing lake.

Disliked: When camping in a tent it’s imperative that that the site has the amenities for washing and showering. 2 showers for each gender are not enough for 30- 50 families. Unfortunately we had to leave a day early as we were unable to shower as on both days of trying, there was no hot water in both men’s and women’s showers or men’s and women’s hand basin.

Non-electric grass pitch (XL)

Liked: The site was lovely and spacious. Lots of space to ourselves as only 2 tents booked on site closer to the fishing lake when we were there, so no-one in the same big field as us. The ground was great for easily levelling out the caravan as it's pretty flat already. We received clear instructions about which area we could set up in even though we arrived after reception had long closed. We never used the shower blocks as we had everything we needed in the caravan but the block looked clean and in very good condition. The site has chemical disposal point, water point, rubbish bins etc. It was very quiet in the field we were in and the only noise we could hear was wildlife and occasional car passing but even that was quiet as we were quite a way away from where the road is. Lovely location as was more remote but was only 10-15 minutes drive away from Skegness centre. We were very appreciative of being allowed to check out later than 11am which meant that we could enjoy the local areas a little more before we left and not many places we've been to would have allowed this. On site are lots of rabbits and deer which we loved seeing and our dog got very excited about. There is a playground for kids but seeing as we don't have any, we can't really comment on it, but it looked in good condition. The fishing lake was nice to walk around and see baby ducks/geese at this time of year. You need to be able to drive to local villages for amenities but that didn't bother us at all as we had planned on going out to see different local attractions anyway and were self-sufficient with things we'd brought from home anyway. The wood cabin accommodation that can be booked here looked lovely. There's nothing like a pub or cafe on site but that was a good thing as it meant the site was quieter.

Disliked: I initially got confused about where the fresh water tap was and ended up filling the water up with a hose next to reception before my partner told me where they were. This didn't bother me as we are new to camping and caravanning and my inexperience contributed to not knowing exactly where to go. It was a happy accident though as when returning from reception, I was greeted with a magnificent deer not far away which I wouldn't have seen so closely if not for my confusion. Perhaps a sign for novice people like myself would avoid confusion.

Electric grass pitch (XL)

Liked: The place was great, we stayed in May, for 1 night. Only one other tent was there. We were close to the toilets. Because there was no one else, place was clean, grass short, quiet. There was many rabbits and geese. There was a playground, which was good with kids. You could choose spot with lake view, but there was bird poo, so not sure, also you could fish, but we didn't.

Disliked: There was considerable noise from the windmills at night but we can't complain, the place is actually called "windfarm".

Electric grass pitch (XL)

Liked: Wonderful campsite, very clean facilities. Variety of pitch types.

Disliked: Would have preferred to have chosen our own pitch. Campsite had lots of free pitches but we were placed next to a large group of two family size tents and a caravan camping together as a group. This was ok until they had a radio playing at 7.30am.

Local attractions

Bring your bikes along if you can, as the farm is on the edge of the Wolds, land so flat that you could pedal around it all day. Plenty of quiet back lanes are around to explore, so bring along binoculars too as some of the loudest noises here come from birds. Areas of wetland habitat to encourage wading birds and wildfowl have been set up by neighbouring farmers. Seaside? The lively entertainment of Skegness and Ingoldmells are nearby, for days at Fantasy Island, the Embassy Theatre, Skegness pier, Skegness Aquarium, several golf courses, a swimming pool and fitness centre, Natureland, skate park and more. Quiet beaches (sometimes deserted) can be found 10 minutes south of Skegness at Gibraltar Point or further up the coast beyond Ingoldmells. For towns, Horncastle with its many antique shops is a 20-minute drive away (for a real antique hunt, go a little further afield to Hemswell Antique Centre, north of Lincoln), and the farm's nearest large town Boston is about 20 miles south with river cruises on the Wash and inland trips on the Witham via the Boston Belle. Also recommended by the Windfarm Park owners is the Battle of Britain memorial flight, based at RAF Coningsby.
