General

  • Open in 2016 in a secluded location on a working 140-acre family farm
  • On-site fishing lake stocked with specimen bream, carp, rudd and more
  • Playground, lots of space and heated amenities blocks with family room

Park yourself at this smashing site for dreamy days deep in Lincolnshire countryside, easy angling on site and proximity to seaside days and wide-ranging strays: family-run Windfarm Park is only four miles west of Skegness and a 10-minute drive from the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

But you might decide to stick around on site when you see what's on offer right at your secluded countryside base... Windfarm Park's fishing lake is a popular pull for anglers of all ages, where tiddlers can land small fish easily and where the more experienced can set themselves the challenge of catching specimen bream, carp, barbel, chubb, tench, roach and rudd among the site lake's many islands and varied features (small extra charge applies for fishing). Many walks are all around too, including several miles of private strolls around the farm and among the many species of local wildlife.

Newly opened in 2016, Windfarm Park is a 140-acre farm in a deeply rural and secluded setting, set up for back to basics stays with fishing thrown in. It's a pet-friendly, family-friendly and warmly welcoming site, a short distance from the pubs, restaurants, takeaways and small supermarkets of the villages of Burgh Le Marsh, Wainfleet and Croft. The owners generate their own electricity via a solar farm on site.

The farm also has a playground and plenty of room for kids to run around. The heated, well-sized and excellently-kept facilities block has modern free hot showers and sockets for hairdryers; there's also a family room that's suitable for guests with disabilities.

    Facilities very clean and tidy.
Camp site was spacious and quiet. Electric available at most pitches

    Disliked:

My only criticism would be the gravel entrance path is very bumpy for anything other than a 4x4 but worth it none the less

Beautiful and peaceful site, we would definitely stay again. We stayed with my brother in law, his wife and kids. We were pitched next to each other, with ease. The owners could not have been any more layed back and were extremely helpful.

    Disliked:

    Not really a dislike;
However, I think the site would benefit from laundry facilities. This for me would put the icing on the cake for our planned stay next year.

Toilet block and showers were clean, could do with more showers as quite a wait when campsite busy.

    Disliked:

Very noisy campsite in late evenings, (not just children), people need to be more considerate and lower noise levels after 9pm when younger children are trying to sleep.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. Windfarm Park is a family site, and settles down around 10.30-11 pm. I strongly disagree that we are a noisy site in the late evening. We do not think that it is reasonable to expect campers to be quiet by 9 pm, especially during August Bank Holiday weekend when families and children are enjoying having holiday fun.

Excellent facilities all round. Clean and well thought out. Pitches are massive too. It's a nice touch having a freezer so you can rotate iceblocks although we didn't manage to get ours in there as it was completely full.

    Disliked:

Although I didn't experience it as we used the family shower room every time but my dad had said the warm water had ran out on a couple of his uses of the showers.

Local attractions

Have your hol as active or relaxed as you want with a Windfarm Park base: there's loads to do in Lincolnshire whatever your holiday tastes.

Staying on site, several miles of secluded farm walks are easily accessible, passing loads of local wildlife: as well as the more common sightings you may be able to spy barn owls, woodpeckers, marsh harriers, white egrets, kingfishers, muntjac and roe deer. (Have a look at the site pics to see some strolling scenery.)

Bring your bikes along if you can, as the farm is at the foot of the Wolds, land so flat that you could pedal along it all day. Plenty of quiet back lanes are around to explore, so bring along binoculars too as some of the loudest noises here come from birds. Areas of wetland habitat to encourage wading birds and wildfowl have been set up by neighbouring farmers.

For more wildlife watching, the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust's visitor centre is at Gibraltar Point just south of Skegness, with other reserves nearby at Snipe Dales and Freiston Foreshore. The Trust runs many educational events during the summer, many aimed at children.

Seaside? The lively entertainment of Skegness and Ingoldmells are nearby, for days at Fantasy Island, the Embassy Theatre, Skegness pier, Skegness Aquarium, several golf courses, a swimming pool and fitness centre, Natureland, skate park and more. Quiet beaches (sometimes deserted) can be found ten minutes south of Skegness at Gibraltar Point or further up the coast beyond Ingoldmells.

For towns, Horncastle with its many antique shops is a 20-minute drive away (for a real antique hunt, go a little further afield to Hemswell Antique Centre north of Lincoln), and the farm's nearest large town Boston is about 20 miles south with river cruises on the Wash and inland trips on the Witham via the Boston Belle.

Ancient Lincoln, its cathedral, its Collection Museum and its castle and events all lie about 50 minutes west for a day trip – if you’re feeling energetic, tackle the aptly named Steep Hill, from the town centre up towards the cathedral.

Also recommended by the Windfarm Park owners is the Battle of Britain memorial flight, based at RAF Coningsby.
