Pitches

  • Dog-friendly site with outside North Somercotes village
  • Cleethorpes half an hour’s drive; North Sea Observatory 40 minutes
  • Fishing pond with pegs on the shore; tackle and bait shop
For a holiday that’s all about the meditative patience of fishing, cast your net (pun very much intended) no further than Pigeon Cottage, a welcoming, family-friendly site stretching across five green acres on the outskirts of the Lincolnshire village of North Somercotes. The site is well equipped for angling enthusiasts, featuring a peaceful fishing pond with a large number of fishing pegs on the shore – no slipping on muddy banks while trying to reel in the big one. And if you get no bites, you can still chill on your pontoon, watching the swimming ducks and taking in the splendid views of the countryside. There’s also a tackle and bait shop, in case you’ve forgotten a vital element of your kit. At the end of your fishing day, head to the on-site bar, which is open from Thursday to Saturday throughout high season and hosts live music on Saturday evenings. Otherwise, light up the barbecue and relax. You can pick up takeaway bites on site or head into the village (five minutes’ walk), where a couple of pubs serve home-cooked food and real ales. There’s good news for fishing widows and widowers, too, since they can explore the rather splendid surrounds, starting with a spot of wildlife watching at the Donna Nook Grey Seal Colony (five minutes’ drive) or at Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes National Nature Reserve, an area of mudflats and sand dunes that’s popular with migrating birds. Dogs are welcome at the site, which has male and female facilities, plus chemical disposal points.

What customers say

This campsite offers a friendly atmosphere with helpful owners, a popular on-site bar, and good fishing lakes. Many visitors praise the clean facilities and welcoming community feel. While some guests found pitches noisy and close to activity areas, others enjoyed the relaxed vibe and entertainment. Potential visitors should note that facilities like showers and toilets are described as functional but sometimes dated, with plans for upgrades. Electric hook-up pricing has been noted as expensive by one guest.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The owners are absolutely lovely and made us feel really welcome. We were given a choice which pitch we wanted. They had a toilet and shower which were really clean and stocked with toilet roll/ hand wash. They also had a bar with a live singer on a Saturday night and a lovely fishing lake. All the other guest that were staying seemed lovely and chatty. I would definitely recommend this site and would return :)

Disliked Nothing everything was great for us

Liked We had a really lovely stay at Pigeon Cottage Campsite. It is very quiet and peaceful, with very friendly people around. The owners are doing a great job. Toilets and showers were always very clean, and the whole campsite was clean and well looked after.

There is a pub on the campsite. We only went there once because we preferred to spend quiet evenings with our kids. There is also a shop very close and a takeaway about a 10-minute walk away, so everything you need is nearby.

The location is also very good. Mablethorpe is only about a 20-minute drive, and Cleethorpes around 30 minutes, so it is easy to go for a day out and come back to a nice quiet place.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Booked up couple of nights whilst passing the area touring by motorcycle.
Booked the wrong dates accidentally but Sue and Ray, the owners slotted me in without a fuss.
Looks like they’ve both put in massive efforts to make this a great site. Pitched up in the corner in some shade by the lake.
Thursday evening being bike night was an unexpected treat. 20 odd bikers turned up for a meet. Nice little bar with cheap beer and great chats either way the bikers.
Definitely stop off again when passing.

Disliked Nothing to dislike for me on this site.

Liked A very welcoming site. The owners could not have been more friendly and helpful. They kindly accommodated a change to my booking and were great when communicating about this. The location is brilliant for exploring the local area. There is a lovely pub for food very nearby but also an onsite bar which again was very welcoming, and well stocked - we loved playing bingo! They had food on aswell on Saturday night which looked great. The facilities were great, easy to access and clean. It just had a very lovely vibe all round and I’d definitely stay there again!!

Liked Lots of space to stay

Disliked Both the toilet was a portaloo in the middle of a field. Next to it was another portaloo which had been fitted out as a shower, which was very small with nowhere to leave clothes and nowhere to dry and dress as it opened directly onto the field.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review Anne and Steve Macleod,
The toilet and shower block was NOT a portaloo it is a proper toilet and shower block built for campsites, that is fitted to the mains. and it isn't in the middle of the field.
If it wasn't big enough you could have used the bigger shower block at the other end of the campsite, which wasn't too far away from where you were parked.
Many thanks
Sue & Ray

Local attractions

Hiking trails in the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape (25 minutes’ drive) take in chalk hills, rolling fields and lush woodlands. Local attractions include the grasslands of Red Hill Nature Reserve, with orchids and butterflies, and the country park at Hubbards Hills, on the River Lud. The place to have a go at paddleboarding or kayaking, Cleethorpes (half an hour) has a long beach where the kids can build sandcastles, go on donkey rides or paddle in the shallow water. Younger children might prefer the paddling pool or a trip on the Lollipop Road Train. And don’t forget to sample some fish and chips on the lively seafront. Binoculars for birdwatching are provided at the café of the North Sea Observatory (40 minutes), a strikingly modern building overlooking the beach and the multicoloured huts at Chapel Point. A walk along the beach takes you to Anderby Creek, where sand dunes provide a home for breeding birds like oystercatchers.
