  • Dog-friendly site with fishing lakes outside North Somercotes village
  • Cleethorpes half an hour’s drive; North Sea Observatory 40 minutes
  • Fishing pegs around the lake; tackle and bait shop
For a holiday that’s all about the meditative patience of fishing, cast your net (pun very much intended) no further than Pigeon Cottage, a welcoming, family-friendly site stretching across five green acres on the outskirts of the Lincolnshire village of North Somercotes. The site is well equipped for angling enthusiasts, featuring not one, but two peaceful lakes with a large number of fishing pegs on their shores – no slipping on muddy banks while trying to reel in the big one. And if you get no bites, you can still chill on your pontoon, watching the swimming ducks and taking in the splendid views of the countryside. There’s also a tackle and bait shop, in case you’ve forgotten a vital element of your kit. At the end of your fishing day, head to the on-site bar which is usually open on Thursdays during high season only. Otherwise, light up the barbecue and relax. You can pick up takeaway bites on site or head into the village (five minutes’ walk), where a couple of pubs serve home-cooked food and real ales. There’s good news for fishing widows and widowers, too, since they can explore the rather splendid surrounds, starting with a spot of wildlife watching at the Donna Nook Grey Seal Colony (five minutes’ drive) or at Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes National Nature Reserve, an area of mudflats and sand dunes that’s popular with migrating birds. Dogs are welcome at the site, which has male and female facilities, plus chemical disposal points.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We’ve just arrived home after an absolutely amazing weekend at Pigeon Cottage and honestly, we can’t recommend it highly enough.

We stayed in our T4 camper van and, from the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we felt completely welcome.

The weather was stunning all weekend, which made it even more special, but what really makes this place stand out is the site itself. It's clean, tidy, spacious and incredibly well looked after. There’s plenty of open space to relax and enjoy yourself without feeling cramped or restricted by endless rules. It has such a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere.

The toilet and shower facilities were spotless throughout our stay. Fresh, clean and easily some of the best facilities we've experienced on a campsite.

A real highlight for us was the little wooden shack bar. The live singer created a fantastic atmosphere, and the prices were unbelievable. At just £3.50 a pint, the drinks were much cheaper than the local pub down the road. It was refreshing to find somewhere that keeps prices fair and affordable for its visitors rather than charging over the odds.

Ray and Sue are absolutely amazing hosts. They are warm, welcoming and genuinely care about everyone who visits. A special thank you also goes to all the regulars, who made us feel like part of the family from day one. We've honestly never stayed anywhere that made us feel so comfortable, included and at home.

We couldn't fault a single thing about our stay. The site, the facilities, the atmosphere, the entertainment and the people were all fantastic.

We’ll definitely be back and are already counting down the days until the 4th of July Country & Western Weekend. We can't wait to return!

Thank you, Ray, Sue and all the regulars for making it such a memorable weekend. See you all again very soon!

From the manager: Mr Jessop could you please be more specific regarding needs more work on site, I'm not sure what you mean.
Our camp site was full over the bank holiday weekend and no one else said the site needs work, or that there were any problems.
Why didn't you say that you weren't happy at the time ? if you had we might have done something about it.
But thank you for your review any way.
Kind Regards
Sue

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite (waterside)

Liked Very friendly welcome by the owners; Ray and Sue, the site was also full of friendly guests and we chatted away to lots of people over the weekend.
We had a Beautiful pitch location, over looking a lake.
For the duration of our stay we enjoyed the Relaxed vibe.
It is clear to see that Ray and Sue have added personal touches across the park and work so hard to make it an enjoyable place to stay at.
We stayed very close to the onsite bar (waterside) and at the time of booking were informed that it could get noisy as there is loud music on a Saturday night. It honestly didn’t worry us at all…. Nothing better than the sound of adults and children having fun. For us it added to the charm of the place. We also enjoyed the entertainment and the bingo! The beer on site is very refreshing!
In terms of the price for our stay it was such good value for money and we would definitely pay more to stay there! We can’t wait to go back!
We didn’t use any WiFi so can’t comment on that!

Disliked There wasn’t anything that we disliked about the site.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Pitch space, toilets close by. Welcome and showed what’s where good, Facilities mostly clean.

Disliked Noise till late, live singer at bar good but went on to late and the music ongoing til very late (unsure if this was from bar or others on site) Pot washing facilities could be cleaner.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feed back Amanda we do appreciate it.
We always have live music on a Saturday night which always finishes around 11 to 11.30.
We do try to check the toilet's, showers & washroom as often as possible, but there are only 2 of us looking after the campsite, holiday cottages and running the bar, our time is limited, therefor we would hope that if there was a problem someone would tell us, so that we can do something about it.
Kind Regards
Sue & Ray

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite (waterside)

Liked Lovely pitch around the lake, really welcoming and friendly, well stocked bar with entertainment. Shops within walking distance too.

Disliked Would prefer paper towels / hand drier in the toilets rather than a shared hand towel.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review it is very much appreciated,
We did have paper towels but they kept getting put down the toilet and causing flooding, we are going to up date the toilets and showers at the end of the season when we are closed, and will be fitting electric hand dryers too.
The hand towels are changed daily.
Looking forward to seeing you all again.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely hosts who made efforts to make sure our stay was happy and welcoming.

The pitch was out of the way but was not short of lovely views and neighbours.

All facilities were clean and well maintained.

Lovely little pub/bar on site and close to other local amenities such as a pub and co-op!

Local attractions

Hiking trails in the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (25 minutes’ drive) take in chalk hills, rolling fields and lush woodlands. Local attractions include the grasslands of Red Hill Nature Reserve, with orchids and butterflies, and the country park at Hubbards Hills, on the River Lud. The place to have a go at paddleboarding or kayaking, Cleethorpes (half an hour) has a long beach where the kids can build sandcastles, go on donkey rides or paddle in the shallow water. Younger children might prefer the paddling pool or a trip on the Lollipop Road Train. And don’t forget to sample some fish and chips on the lively seafront. Binoculars for birdwatching are provided at the café of the North Sea Observatory (40 minutes), a strikingly modern building overlooking the beach and the multicoloured huts at Chapel Point. A walk along the beach takes you to Anderby Creek, where sand dunes provide a home for breeding birds like oystercatchers.
